  1. docks=wood. sounds good to me. I am goin out with Ken Kirk Saturday to learn Anna a little better. will see how it goes.
  2. Let me guess , they sponsor you or you're on their pro team ? I think he is on the bass fishing team here at Virginia Tech. I am on it too and they are a sponsor of ours. I think Jody might have one of their rods. Someone at the first team meeting had one with a jig tied on it. I am looking at getting one of their cranking rods this winter.
  3. I am just getting excited here in Virginia. Time to pull out the big boat and chase trophy rockfish (40+ pound fish) in the Chesapeake Bay and out on the Ocean. Bass fishing fills my fishing addiction until winter comes. Can't wait to smell two stroke fumes trolling and have eel slime all over the boat. ;D

  6. There was a tournament that just went on in a forum I am on. The bass were pretty spread out. Some guys did pretty well fishing downlake. A couple guys managed to catch 3-5 fish right in Sturgeon Creek. Also, the North Anna has been holding some fish in it too. From what I read, most of the fish were caught in less than 10 feet of water around wood that was near bait balls. Go figure.
  7. Thanks. LMAO. Maybe he will catch a couple 8 pounders after goin through that mess.
  8. Yes it is. I love that show. Probably one of my top five favorite fishing shows.
  9. Anyone have a link to this thread? I want to read it.
  10. I hope it will. They should go to some lesser known places to have the tournaments. Still big name lakes but now the usual Falcon, Amistad, Erie, etc.
  11. The fish will be positioned right out of the current waiting to food to float by. I would try weightless soft plastics, soft plastic jerk baits, and regular jerkbaits if the fish seem pretty active.
  12. I will throw a little twist in here. The great thing about living in Virginia is that you are close to the ocean and bay. 8-) So here are some off the coast (within 60 miles) of VA, Deleware and Maryland. Elephant Trunk The Triangles Jackspot Hot Dog (know as "fishin the dog") Ham bone 20 fathom finger (for all you bassmasters, a fathom=6 feet )
  13. I agree. I think back in the day when they used to try and rescue animals that are being abused and issues like that are good, valid points but once the extremists came in, there whole point of existence really changed for the worst.
  14. You have one happy mailman then. I have never missed an issue of BASS Times or Bassmaster. Consider yourself lucky! Not trying to be sexist here but I have a woman mailman so maybe she just isnt into bass fishing and ATV riding because so far, keepin my fingers crossed, I have never missed an issue of any mag.
  15. I am on the other side of the river so I will drive down to Osborne that morning and see if it is open and if it is not, I will just drive on down to Deep Bottom. Thats 24/7 too. Its just not all lit up like Dutch Gap.
  16. Well, i talked to a guy on another forum from Varina and he said that he has been there 2 hours before sunrise and the gate has been open so it sounds like they are not being too strict about the whole dawn to dusk thing. When I go next weekend, I will report back the fishing of course and whether the gate is open or will open.
  17. I love to do that float. I usually like to fish jerk baits in the deeper water (deeper than 4 feet) right below Scottsville and then farther down river (usually right before the pipeline) I like to throw weightless soft plastics like Case Jacks worms and Magic Stiks. I have caught a good number of fish at the pipeline and also right above Hardware in between the islands. Good luck.

  19. Do you need an external thermometer to see the thermocline? I have a Lowrance HDS 5X. I only have what came with it, the unit and the transducer. I can't figure out how to see the thermocline. any help would be great. Thanks You have to set the senstitivity up to around 90 to see it. Plus, Wayne drops an external thermometer to check the water temps down at the thermocline. But you can see the thermocline on your Lowrance.
  20. I justed checked out the Bing birds eye view. That is absolutely amazing. It is so clear. You must look at it.
  21. Does anyone know when the ramp gates up front will open in the moring since the ramp is only open dawn to dusk? I know you can get out at night cause I have left many times a midnight after catfishing but I have never tried to get in early in the morning. I might just end up going to Deep Bottom. Thanks.
  22. I fish there quite a bit. This time of year, there will generally be a thermocline so look for that on your depthfinder. The water might be starting to cool off a little so the bass might start pushing up a little shallower. The last time I was there (beginning of August) I saw a lot of bass chasing bait so look for that. I would try senkos and shakey heads. Once you start catching fish, start to make a pattern (water temp caught in, structure, lure used, etc.) Try to limit where you fish. I think putting in at either ramp you will be successful. Look at a map and say "i will fish this area". Don't run and gun looking for fish becasue that takes a LONG time to get anywhere. pick an area and pick it apart.
  23. Congrats on that pig!!! CPR is the way to go.
  24. I fish the Upper James a lot which is similar fishing wise. I usually fish weightless soft plastics. I prefer Case Jacks worms and Case Magic Stiks(senko type worm). Just fish them weightless in the current and around riffles and rocks. You will catch them. Jerkbaits will work well too above and below the rapids/riffles. The state record smallmouth was caught on a spinnerbait in the New River. Good luck.
