  1. I've never fished anywhere with pickeral but if they're as similar to pike as I'm guessing they are, they're probably just beating the bass to the bait. Pike will eat about anything and I'm sure pickeral are the same way. At least you were catching something!
  2. That was me on the KC area thread. I caught a majority of my keepers during the tournaments out there last year on a jig or big worm. Jig caught more numbers but the worm was better for bigger fish, even caught some nice smallies on a 10" worm last year. They weren't spooky about it all. First time I tried it I made about 5 cast before I got one solid "tick" and my line started heading for deeper water. Turned out to be just shy of 3 pounds and won it for us and got big bass that night. I was only getting a few bites a night until dark, then it was on.
  3. I caught 15 keepers in a few hours out there last year fishing for bass. 14 on a 78 pointer and 1 on a Zell Pop! The rockpiles along the bank straight across from the marina cove and then the rock bank between Stotler and Turtle coves are usually pretty good in the spring. I think they're a lot like the bass in that lake, more than most people would think of them in there, they're just very spooky and hard to catch.
  4. When I worked for WYCO S.O. in the jail in downtown KC I would open the rec doors at midnight on New Years Eve to listen to all the idiots popping off rounds into the air. I knew it was just a matter of time before it happened and not all that long ago it did, little girl sleeping in her bed got hit in the neck and killed by one of those idiots.
  5. Yes, that's a replica of the world record paddlefish.
  6. They aren't good bass rods, great for catfish though. If you want to get an affordable bass rod I'd check out the Berkley Lightning Rods.
  7. 12-15lb test mono or copoly. Trilene Big Game is pretty tough to beat for spinnerbaits and bladed jigs.
  8. I tried 10lb Yo Zuri on a spinning reel for about 30 minutes, that was all I could take. Stuff was jumping off my spool like a spring and had about the same amount of memory. I've heard lower pound test aren't as bad but I won't be finding out.

  10. I just did a Google search for The Square, Shallow, Model, and Fat A's and found them everywhere. Take a deep breath, you'll make it through this
  11. Doesn't matter if they're upside down in the water or not. One thing I would suggest is a bigger hook though. Unless you're fishing the Pit boss Jr a 2/0 hook is going to be tiny on a regular Pit boss.
  12. Bass will eat frogs anywhere, doesn't even need to be any frogs around. Get a frog with a light colored belly and walk it in open water so it looks like a baitfish, no vegetation required!
  13. Ponds and frogs go together like PB&J You might try the Spro Popping Bronzeye if you have confidence in regular poppers. It's not as much of a stretch to transition from normal poppers to a frog that way. That fish certainly wanted that frog though! First thing I'd suggest is switch to braid, best change I've ever made for frogs.
  14. I'd be getting mine back one way or another. Whether I got it back from the state or my uncle bought me new gear since it was 100% his fault you lost it in the first place.
  15. Congrats man! Hope you were caught up on sleep before baby got here
  16. Go out to Douglas, you can keep 5 under 12" out there. You and one other person keeping 10 12 inchers is a pretty good little mess of fish and they're much better eating at that size. I think Miami is going to that same slot limit too and could certainly stand to lose some small fish. Douglas has much cleaner water though.
  17. Welcome to the forum from a fellow KS member and make sure to check out the KC area thread if you haven't yet!
  18. No lakes from Kansas this year?! What a shocker At least they got that part of the list right Nothing but catfish and cornfields here. I actually drive to Missouri and Oklahoma to catch all my fish
  19. I wish I could find a program like this in our area. It isn't much compared to what they've given but I'd be happy to help out.
  20. Carp jump a lot and if they're up splashing around in vegetation they're probably spawning. They make all kinds of commotion when they're spawning and can really tear a place up doing it. Gar with surface very often as well. Just because of your location I'd go with it most likely being carp though. Try to see if there's any baitfish scattering when it happens, that will help figure out if it's a predator fish chasing bait or just a fish jumping.
  21. 144lbs from a pond off the Missouri River in Atchison, KS. I use to work with the nephew of the guy who caught it. He sent some pictures right after it was caught, it was a beast. http://www.kansas.com/2012/07/20/2415117/river-monsters.html
  22. You don't have to be married to one species of fish. I'll fish for anything that bites and will often fish for whatever is biting best even if I started out targeting a different fish. Pike are great fun and I'd fish for them too if we had any around here.
  23. I have one of the original C14 Stradics and it has been a great shakyhead reel for me. Couple years of use so far and zero issues so far.
  24. Don't need anything too specialized for a C-rig other than I'd suggest a high speed reel to pick up line quickly. I use a 200E7 Curado on mine but I didn't buy it specifically for C-rigging. I'd probably just get a 7.1 Pro Qualifier if I was going to buy one just for C-rigging.
  25. Are you talking about the junk that floats to the top when you flux your lead?
