Some Before Work Pond Bassin.
Yeah I'd normally have an anchor with me but I was in a hurry today and forgot it. I was really wishing I had it fighting that wind though!

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I'm pretty sure that most bass they sample are already collected with shock boats. It stuns the fish just long enough for them to be netted and put into a collection tank where the revive and are weighed and measured before they release them and it does little or no damage to the fish. I was "lucky" enough to be at 2 lakes the same day they were shocking them last year and watched them collected them and turning them loose after being weighed and measured. If you're ever at a lake when they're doing this I'd suggest just watching them do it, the odds of catching anything will be heavily stacked against you at that point anyways.

What Really Grind Your Gears
Stupid people, negativity, people who push their beliefs on me (mainly those that think I shouldn't hunt or fish because it's "mean"), cold fronts, when I make a perfect cast or pitch to a great looking spot and don't get bit , people who think because they have money to own a boat makes it so they know how to operate one. I could go on but I'll leave it with those ones.

Assessing Value
They were and still are very good rods for the money, I'd fish with it.

Fluorocarbon Suggestions
I've tried lots of different brands of fluoro but I keep coming back to Seaguar, it's the best you're going to find. If I wasn't using Seaguar I'd probably fish the Vicious pro elite, I've fished it quite a bit also and it is pretty good line but I've had it break on the hookset inside the reel a couple times.

My Name Is Tyler, And I Am A Fishing Addict
I bought my first bass boat (Ranger 451V with a 150 merc) when I was 16 with what little money I was making working in the fishing dept. at Cabela's. Just wait until you get the boat monkey on your back, he's a lot heavier than the bait monkey

Are Marinas Good Spots For Bass In Winter?
Marinas almost always have deeper water to allow boats to get in and out and be stored in the slips. Also the dock floats grow algae which attracts baitfish. I love fishing marinas and wouldn't be shy about trying them any time of year.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Fished La Cygne today from 7am-3pm. Lots of boats fishing for the little white bass that were everywhere. Nice thing about it was it left that bass pretty much all to us. Jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, and shakeyheads were the deal. Fished with Peter (Wachati) and we both caught fish pretty steady all day, just mostly little ones. I'd bet well over half of them wouldn't have bumped 12" if you'd have jumped up and down on them first. They were willing to bite and that was the important thing. I had big fish of the day with a 18.5" fish that when 3 3/4 pounds on a shakeyhead. The rock bank by the river mouth was the only place we could get bit with any regularity. I ended up with 19 and he caught around 15 I think. 2012 bass count-141

Ice Fishermen Be Careful Out There
Bad deal. This winter has had too much warm weather for me, don't think I'd get on the ice unless I was certian it was thick enough. It's amazing how quick your limbs stop working when you fall in freezing water like that and it becomes all but impossible to pull yourself and all those layers of soaking cloths back out of the water.

Yet Another Help Me Post
I'd probably look at an Abu Veritas or a Shimano Compre in that price range. I'd bet that the Shimano will have the better options of the two.

Zoom Trick Worm
Trick worms are one of my favorite baits because they will catch you all sizes of fish. I've caught everything from little 4 inch sunfish and bass to 5 and 6 pound largemouth and 5 pound smallmouth.

The Wacky Rig
Senkos and similar baits are good. I like magnum finesse worms and heavyweight worms by Zoom and Berkley. You can fish them almost anywhere but heavy cover will get you snagged more and the slow sink makes it a pretty poor choice for deep water. Not a great choice for dirty water either. I like wide gap finesse hooks but lots of guys use circle hooks without any problems.

Some Before Work Pond Bassin.
I've been impressed with them so far. I can't tell much of a difference between how they fish and the Megabass. I'd suggest changing the split rings though because I had a fish pull a hook and split ring off the bait. They'be been good, durable baits and the finish has held up on my first one after a few dozen fish. Jerkbaits are my go-to bait for cold water ponds. The ponds around here have too much moss on the bottom to even think about any kind of plastic or jig. I usually use 8-12 pound mono or copolymer for my jerkbaits in ponds. You have to mess with retrieves day to day it seems like. Most of the time I start with 2 soft twitches and about a 5 second pause. Sometimes you can fish faster, sometimes it takes 10-20 second pauses between twitches. The biggest one in my post I was fishing it almost like a plastic worm. It was only about 2 feet deep so I had the rod high in the air and just pulling straight up about 4-6 inches at a time to try to keep it out of the moss. It was a very light bite and felt like it just stuck on a piece of grass before I leaned into her.

Some Before Work Pond Bassin.
I took my jon boat out for a few hours before work and decided to try the pond behind work. I did really well early last year on jerkbaits and this day was no different! I ended up with 21 bass and 1 big crappie. My biggest bass was a very healthy 4 1/2 pound fish on a 78 pointer. Right before I had to leave for work I tried a new color of the new Luck E Strike jerkbait and caught my second biggest one of the day, a 3 pounder. Wish the wind wasn't blowing so hard, tough to control a little 12' boat in 15 mph winds! Probably caused me to miss another 10 fish becase I was messing with the trolling motor. 2012 bass count-122

Generic Senkos
If you have a BPS close wait until they put their plasstics on sale. Their stick-O is a pretty good substitute and they normally have them on sale 3 for 10 bucks. I buy enough during the spring fever sale each spring to get me through the year. They aren't the original but they do catch fish.

Decent Afternoon In Nc
Nice fat, healthy looking fish!

Crankbait Rod And Reel
The Veritas are nice rods and a friend of mine uses the one you described for cranking and likes it a lot. You must live close to the Olathe BPS, my wife works at that one which makes it hard for me not be in there at least once a week

St Croix Rage Or Micro Magic?
I have a Rage spinning rod and really like it. The grip is very comfortable and the rod is light and sensitive. I have no experience with the micro but I know they are extremely light from holding them in stores. I'd say it's all a matter of personal preference and what feels better in your hand if you can hold both of them.

Finally Have Some Time To Fish..
I'd love to catch some of those things! Even if they aren't monsters they're cool looking fish and I've heard a blast to catch!

Has Your Fishing Style Changed As Your Life Has?
I used to concentrate on just catching fish. Now I work harder to understand why I'm catching fish and try harder to catch bigger fish.

Can Any Fish Be Caught From Shore Today?
I live in Northeast Kansas and caught fish from the bank yesterday. Even though it's raining and not that warm out the water isn't any warmer than the rain, maybe even colder. I wouldn't be afraid to go out in it if you can find something that isn't frozen.

The Five Percent Or The Other Ninety-Five Percent
5% for me. My problem is catching them much bigger than 5. I catch plenty of 5's each year, just getting the 6+lbers that's tough.

New Strike King Prototype Topwater Walking Lure!
If he endorses it, they will come! Wonder how Bill Dance feels about all the new KVD baits?

Phil Is Totally Out Of Touch With Reality!
Don't understand why they even bother with it anymore. Most years we have at least 6 weeks of winter left regardless. I've also heard woodchuck is really good. I shot one from about 70 yards with my bow at a friends house because his uncle said I couldn't hit it. He got so excited because "dem tings good eatin'!" Didn't find out myself but he cleaned it and cooked it that night and it didn't smell bad. Looks kind of like a big hamster to me, no thanks.
