need info for creating/managing my own pond
A friend of mine's parents asked for help from KDWP with managing their pond. They not only came out and sampled the pond to see what was in it and what needed done with it but also offered to stock it with the fish that it was needing if they signed it up for the FISH program. You would have to be ok with people fishing your pond but after the first year you could opt out and your pond would still be stocked. They did it and now their pond has lots of really nice bass and crappie in it. I was surprised by how few people fished it while they were enrolled in the program, it is a long walk from the road so that may have had something to do with it. Stay away from "bucket biology" though. We've got zebra mussels and asian carp in many different bodies of water in Kansas, wouldn't want them to make it into your pond.

The shoplifters hid all this stuff where?
I've seen more than one person hide stuff in belly rolls. It's really nasty on a hot day when you get a guy that's 400 pounds and soaked with sweat and you have to pat them down :-/, thank god for latex gloves! Women are really bad about hiding things in their bras and worst, thankfully with the PC state of things a male can not pat down a female ;D

Rattletraps
Had one trip to Canada where 1oz rattle traps was the only thing the pike wanted. I've also caught a bunch of them fishing for bass over the weeds at Lake Minnetonka.

Wolf Creek
What were you getting your fish on? Seems like most of the time I go to Wolf Creek I end up going home disappointed. I'm always hoping to get into the smallies there but just never have caught them like I've heard of people catching them. I have had some amazing days catching some of the biggest crappie I've ever seen.

What is your must have ?
Weight, performance, durability, word of mouth, looks, price, want, they all factor in. I've fished with about every brand from my days when I could check a reel out and take it fishing when I worked at Cabela's. I love my Shimano's but I have been very impressed with the Revo SX and STX. I have an S that lasted one season before the levelwind quit working. Just got one of the new BPS Rick Clunn powerfishing reels and I like it really well so far.

Line recommendation question
I have several bulk spools of Mustad Ultra line in 6-20lb test. I've been really impressed by the abrasion resistance, castability, and overall handling of the line. I don't like it as well for spinning reels as casting but it still fishes really nice of spinning reels. I pulled a 42lb flathead out from under a submerged bridge fishing for wipers last winter with 14lb test. Water was in the high 50s so the fight wasn't all it would have normally been but she still pulled me under the bridge and stuck for a moment before i got her moving out from under it again. That was really impressive to see and experience. It's become my line of choice for cranks, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, lipless baits, and topwaters.

Favorite color frog
I've tried lots of different colors but black seems to be my best producer in cover or lowlight conditions and white is best in open water or brighter conditions.

A Bait Saved From a Terrible Fate! (and they're on sale!)
Ummm - there was also one Yo-Zuri Hardcore JB-90SB suspending minnow (jerkbait) in the clearance bin. I didn't see this bait on the Yo-Zuri web site so perhaps it's been discontinued. I did find the bait on eBay...for $12.95 I paid $2.95 for it ... 8-) I have that exact bait, except mine has caught so many fish it has almost no paint left on it ;D

WalMart $1 Spinnerbaits - Anybody Use 'Em?
First fish and first bigger fish (4.5lbs) that I ever caught on a spinnerbait came on the white with a blue head and single colorado blade wal mart special. The first tournament I ever fished in when I was 16 a guy won with a 7.5lb fish on a yellow and orange one. He had customized it with a small orange colorado blade in front of the regular colorado blade. It was the only fish anyone caught on a day that never made it out of the teens .

Did you ever buy a lure/lures that just didn't catch anything???
It's all about the rythme with Spooks and other walk the dog baits. For me a slow constant retrieve is good when it's calm but when there is a chop on the water or the fish are really chasing you can work it with fast snaps and make it jump all over. They are by far my favorite clear water top water bait.

Wow. New low in customer service.
I've had several Quantums and I have yet to find one that I thought was worth the money I spent on it. I checked one out when I worked at Cabela's and took it with me on a trip to Mexico. It was the blue PT burner. I didn't the feel of the reel and it did not have a very good drag system. It spent most of the trip in the lodge while I was on the water catching fish with my shimanos. I had one of the Energy spinning reels in the 20 size and it made it less than a year before it sounded like an egg beater. :-/

Did you ever buy a lure/lures that just didn't catch anything???
BPS Tornado Spinnerbait, BPS Balsa Boogie. There was some crank that BPS was pushing that Rick Clunn was endorsing that was supposed to send out sonic waves or something like that. Heddon crazy crawler, double bladed buzzbaits, silver buddys, Lucky Craft Live Pointers. I'm sure there's plenty more but that's all I can think of. Not that a couple of these didn't catch some fish, they just always fell short of what I was hoping they would do for me.

lipless crank for small mouth
I have the best luck with the Excalibur XR50 in the ghost pattern. I've caught smallmouth everywhere I've fished for them with it. It's a really natural looking color but it's really loud and I think it plays on a smallmouths curiosity because they want to find out where all the noise is coming from! Plus, my aluminum boat just seems to amplify it when it gets back close to the boat on the retrieve.

On behalf of the Chiefs I would like to say thank you Miami!

Facebook to many fisherman!
You need to set your security settings higher. I have mine set as high as I can because of my job to keep people I don't want seeing my page from seeing it. Mines set so you can't even search for it unless you at least friends with one of my friends first. If you have as many friends as it sounds like you do that may not solve your problem though.

Do You Drink Energy Drinks?
I drink at least 2-3 a week, usually Amp or Full Throttle. I love the Full Throttle coffee/energy drink mix. I've tried about everyone I've ever seen at the store. The 180 and Go Fast are both pretty good ones too. 7-11 used to sell one that if you drank it in less than 10 minutes it would make your toes and fingers tingle and make it impossible to sit still lol. I drink them because I get off work at midnight and get to sleep around 1, get up at 4:30 or 5 am to go fishing or hunting and repeat 3 days in a row before I go back to work and I can get some sleep!

shakey head molds
I've got Do-It's shakey head mold and it fits 3/0-5/0 hooks and you can make them with or without the wire spiral keeper. It's been a really good investment for me.

Getting started pouring plastics
Thanks for the help guys. I was just thinking I use a ton of trick worms, beaver style baits, and senko, style baits in a select few colors. If I got a mold for each of these and couple of different colors I could probably save myself a bunch of money.

6lb bday trip
Nice fish! Strange that she didn't fight, they usually fight really well this time of year unless the water is really cold.

So close...
Sitting in the tree stand this morning not seeing anything when I look up and the biggest 12 point deer I've ever seen is walking straight towards me . I try to reach for my bow slowly but everytime I move he freezes and stares me down. Played cat and mouse with him for what seemed like 30 minutes but was probably a minute or two before I got my bow down. He was walking fast for the tree line and I was having a heck of time knocking an arrow while I was shaking like I was having a seizure :. Raised the bow to draw and again he froze, a single step from being behind hedge limbs that would block and shot and he would be gone. Without warning and way to fast for me to react he bounced forward into the trees and was gone :'(. No amount of grunting or rattling could get his attention, he was on a mission and I couldn't stop him, all I could do was watch him walk up and over the hill and disappear. I've replayed that moment hundreds of time in my head when he was frozen broadside at 20 yards staring me down, wish I would have just tried to draw and let loose and hope he didn't bolt. Now I just have to hope that he makes a mistake again and gives me a little more warning next time!

Getting started pouring plastics
I'm sure someone has posted this before but about how much on average would I be looking to spend to get into pouring my own plastics? I only use a few styles/colors so it seems to me i could stand to save myself quite a bit of money if I started pouring my own.

Nintendo Wii fishing game
The BPS The Strike for Wii helped get me through the winter but like others have said it's not very realistic. Drive around until you see a fish on the depthfinder and start casting. I was excited to see some lakes that I've fished on the game like Table Rock. Then I played it and caught a fish that would beat Missouri's decades old state record largemouth by 4 or 5 lbs. So not that realistic on the size fish you are catching or the difficultly in finding them.

Handguns
I have a Glock 17 9mm that I carry on duty. I've got a Glock 22 .40 that I carry off duty sometimes and leave at home when the wife is home by herself. I keep a loaded 12 gauge shotgun in the bedroom that is a much better option for home defense IMO. That's probably heavily influenced from seeing the repercussions of a father trying to ward off an intruder in his home shooting a .357 mag through 2 walls and into his son sleeping in his bedroom. A shotgun blast won't go through many walls and I can't tell you the number of times someone has scared off an intruder just from racking a shell into the chamber, that's a universal sound that everyone understands.

new dt colors
They are decent cranks if you are only fishing weeds or soft bottom, but if you're banging stumps or grinding rocks it's just a matter of time before the lip comes back to the boat and the bait floats up somewhere in between.
