  1. 6'6 medium action. and for the white spinnerbait, what kind of blades should it be, and gold or silver blades.
  2. well i wouldnt know but..... i suck at flipping with a baitcaster
  3. thats really good advice, i had never thought of that! from now on when im bass fishing i will just leave my spinning reel at home and really give my other one a chance. and i got a question, i found some of my dads old rapalas. i have 3 floating ones with small lips and some rapala countdowns, they look like the floaters but heaver, still a longer body but thicker. Are they any good?
  4. not necessarily, sorry if it mislead you. was i doing something wrong though? i fished it like me spinning reel, maybe it was just my lure selection...
  5. I recently got a baitcasting reel. I always used a spinning reel. i fished about 10 times for largemouth with it and always brought my spinning reel too. And i never caught a single thing on my bait caster. I was throwing inline and offset spinners, also some rapalas and frogs, and poppers. Then i would down size with my small trout spinners on my spinning reel and i would get bites and catch some. This was right before fall so where they just not taking big baits or was i doing something wrong? thanks. and any soft plastics you suggest? ive used senkos for smallies when nothin else was workin so i think they will work for largemouth. But any soft plastics i will look into. thanks
  6. yes, and most of them are catch and release ( i never keep them anyway) so they really get a chance to get big where i fish. There seem to be good numbers and size. One guy couldnt keep a minnow on his hook, literally as soon as he threw it in he caught one, each 2 pounds or more, crazy stuff. and this one isnt even fished hard because its tucked away pretty good down a trail. good luck
  7. Do any of you guys fish retention ponds? my local lake is being drained and they are digging it deeper so i had to find a new lake. I found a retention pond about 50 yards wide and 150 yards long. WOW does it have bass! my profile pic is one of the ones i caught. about 3 pounds but it is just filled with bass! do any of you fish retention ponds? got any pics?
  8. ^ that makes me sick! i can't believe what kind of ******* would do that in the first place thinkin >:(g it was funny! if i was there i would have beat the **** out of him!
  9. I thought he was targeting only trout, I didn't realize he was talking about bass. The Dogwood Canyon rod and reel combo I got years ago hasn't let me down once, and while not top of the line, is a great starter setup. i am targeting trout with this, on streams so maybe not a to long of a rod
  10. well i live in PA and im getting excited for bass fishing, the truth is i dont know all to much about it. I know alot about trout fishing. But what kind of lures or live baits should i throw in the early spring? some of the stuff i got in my tackle box is spinner baits, frogs, senkos, rapalas, baby brush hogs, poppers, and some jigs. so what do you guys do and a slow or fast presentation?
  11. I come from a little out side of Pittsburgh. I will fish Pine Creek, Slippery Rock Creek, Medix Run, Spring Creek (East Branch). There are a couple up by benezette also that i cant remember the names of, Neshannock, and tons of others that my Dad knows of. A lot by the Allegheny national forest.
  12. well trout is coming up, and i see alot of guys fly fishing and it looks like a blast. I want to get into fly fishing so what would be a good rod/reel combo to get? Or flys and stuff you use for them, (im not sure what they are called) but i see alot of guys in the early morning to afternoon having alot of luck on nympths. So if anyone here fly fishes and knows about this and could help me, it would be appreciated. 8-)
  13. i use berkly trilene i think it was 2.5 lb test. it works. then i switched to some other line like 4lb test and preformed as well. unless the trout you fish for are massive, i would keep the line under 4lb cause it will double wat it says it is. ;D
  14. Well its half way through winter and im sick of it, hunting just ended now im looking forward to bass and trout fishing! i have some streams i could go for trout, but in general will any types of bass bite in the winter on streams/rivers? i no of a stream with lots of small mouth and i want to know if i should give it a shot, or ice fishing for stripers. What kind of presentation should i use/ lures or live bait. thanks! ;D
  15. the closest trout streams that are half decent and can hold stocked trout year round are like an hour away from me. i have some near pittsburgh but basically all get fished out the first day. i wish i lived up in the mountains, i caught some nice brookies on medix run up in benezette
  16. yea. a few years back my dad caught like a 24 inch 6 lb rainbow and he gave it to a friend he new to mount it and they guy kept it and never gave it back, but anyway where i go they seem to put a decent amount of palominos in, my dad caught one a couple inches larger than that one
  17. check out those trout! lol i have never caught a rainbow so dark and chubby with a hook nose! i love catching palominos!
  18. i have an ultra light abu garcia reel that i threw on a shakespeare synergy ultra light rod and use it for trout, do you guys uses ultra lights for trout?
  19. i wanna catch smallies like that!!!
  20. i know alot of people fly fish for trout but it also seems popular for bass. i think it would be really neat and interesting way to fish, anybody hear ever done it or consider trying it?
  21. i just added these to my tackle box, not to familiar with using them but i see they are fairly popular. I got them in watermelon candy color. I will be fishing a small river, not that fast moving but will these catch me small mouth? How should i rig them?
  22. hey welcome!!!, where do you fish in western PA? if you havent fished mahonning dam for smallmouth i heard its great!
  23. all u bait caster fisher man help! im new to baitcasters and i have a question. it seems when ever i use a plastic my[ch65279] line doesnt rap around the reel very tight, which makes the line easer to dig into the spool because baitcasting reels have a horizontal spool, this never happens when im using a rapala or a spinner because there is always resistance on the line when retrieving so it stays nice and tight. help!!
