  1. Can anyone identify the pattern within the pattern described below: Fishing Log: 12/4/2010: Got one bite on a Black and blue Rage tail space monkey rigged on a drop shot rig with a 1/8 ounce drop shot weight and 17 pound monofilament with a 5/0 hook, The bait was soaked in Carolina Lunker sauce Threadfin shad Gel, The bass hit lightly in a few feet of water close to the bank, the water was pretty stained and there were baitfish flipping around by where I got bit. The air temp was 36 degrees with overcast blue skies. Retrieve: I was casting out into deeper water and bringing the lure in towards the bank when I got a strike. The fish interrupted the retrieval of the lure and all of the sudden there was weight on the end of my line, I was retrieving the lure slowly in about 1 foot of water Name of body of water: Olney Mill pond Time of day: Afternoon Cover being fished: None, but around dead grass Food Source: small Minnows/baitfish Season: Winter/late fall

  9. I went through all the Virginia hunting and fishing forum, loooked through 3 years of fishing reports, researched on google, and looked through anything that talked about fishing the river in April
  10. What do you think of this: April: In April. Look for bass to be around the areas where the Spring shad run will be taking place upstream/upriver on the Potomac, and the bass should be there following the shad. The bass should be hanging around the thin, incoming aquatic grass. Find shallow areas with deeper water nearby, but focus on the shallow bite (3 feet or less). The largemouth might also be sitting in the incoming grass lines, so try there. Look for smaller bass to be in the wood and structure feeding. Try fishing tight to the bank. Target scatted clumps of grass, Target grass beds in the creeks and on the main river, and try targeting big community grass beds, and also try the grass beds on both sides of the river, focus on finding new grass If the water is in the 68-72 degree range the bass should be spawning, or if there is a full moon, the bass should be spawning, but the bass tend to spawn towards the end of the month Try finding the traditional spawning grounds of the bass, there should be some bucks hanging around waiting for the females to move up For smaller bass, hit the marina's The pre-spawn fish be out in the deeper grass The full moon will take place Monday, 18 April 2011, am, which should trigger the bass to move up and spawn, before the full moon look for bass cruising and looking for spawning sites, many bass will be pushing to spawn into shallow coves Places to try: Powell's creek: Most likely the bass will be staging to spawn outside the shallow water with stumps, fish the drop offs in the creek by the stumps and pilings, the bass should be staging to spawn there and target laydowns that line the shore of Powell's creek popular spot at the mouth of Aqiua: Here you should be able to find larger bass in the 16 range on a Red rattle trap, Lizards, but focus on the grass that Aqiua contains. Look for bass to be spawning in Aquia, try the rattle traps in the grass Mid River section : At this spot fish a redeye shad in the very shallow water and around grass and lily pads. Bryan's cove: In april there should be clumps grass there with a lot of grass growth Aqiua Creek: Potomac creek: Forage: Shad Lures: Red rattle trap, Chatter bait, Red-eye-shad, Jig, Creature bait, Baby 1 Minus in chart/gray, Spinner baits (white), buzz bait, frog Weight: In years past it takes between 17 and 20 pounds of bass to win the tournament. Techniques: Try burning the baits you throw with a high speed reel to trigger strikes. Try working the rattle traps through and around deeper grass also and around staging areas, such as Powell's creek
  11. I am looking for someone to talk with about the Potomac river and I am looking for some guidance in terms of figuring out the river and am looking for someone who I can pick their brains of people who know the river very well and successfully catch fish on it. I would like to talk to someone who could tell me what spots to avoid and what spots usually contain bass and which spots contain quality bass and which spots contain numbers of small keeper bass. I am looking for someone who can point me to web sites and articles that I should read and could serve up names of people that could help me and give me local information, the kind of information you don't get from Internet study and history. I am looking for people who can tell me Which spots on the potomac river hold the biggest bass. If so, PM me
  12. I am having Carl wengenroth pour some flukes, senkos, brush hogs, and trick worms in this color for me......... I will post photos of them when I get them

  20. Thanks Guys for your help............... Im going to practice everyday over the summer and conquer my weaknesses, but excel at my strengths. the good thing is is that my skill is research, And that has helped me find some of my very best spots on the potomac river, I found a spot my last tournament, then caught a 2.8 pounder from there
  21. I plan on getting a job over the summer to save up the entry fees. It costs $350 a tournament to enter as a co angler. Im going to practice and fish every single day In the summer and fish as many new bodies of water possible in order to practice finding bass. I think i will get better with electronics by being a non boater in American bass anglers tournaments where I can learn to read my boaters electronics..............Any thing else I should do to be ready, my goal is to save up enough to buy a used bass boat and fish the 2013 or 2014 Northern opens, But I think Fishing the Bassmaster opens will be a good start and a good learning experience.
  22. I don't own a boat, So i plan on fishing as a co-angler for the Northern opens and Southern open events for a while.
