I'm looking For A Short, Thick, Bulky Bait Mold With Little to no Appendages. Something that's heavy when poured, but also carries some weight/girth. I need it deeper than it is wide in length. Suggestions? I'm looking at something like LureCrafts Silicone molds.... I want something smooth (Not Ribbed), but I don't want any thin parts/appendages either to prevent breakages/tearing

A new revolution in jig colors Let’s face it, as anglers we stick with what works and in this case- the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” really comes into play when picking lure colors. But, what if you could match the color of your jig to the color of your favorite soft plastics trailer. Think about it- it’s something different, its more natural, and it’s just more visually appealing. Most of us bass anglers fish a jig to imitate a crawfish, or occasionally a baitfish. Stop a minute and picture what a crawfish or a bluegill looks like- while they all have different hues and tints of different colors to them- they typically have one dominant color to them. Take the color Okeechobee craw for example- you have two main colors, a sapphire blue shade and a dark charcoal black serve as the dominant colors- while you have a light brown mixed in with all the other colors. In nature nothing is really a solid color- with bluegill you have hints of chartreuse on the tail or certain accent colors throughout the bluegill and none of the colors really have a defined or set pattern to them. Okeechobee craw isn’t the only color like this, colors such as summer craw (light green and brown), or Bama Bug (Sapphire blue, light brown, black, and dark blue), all follow this approach. Like we referenced before, in nature you won’t typically find anything living under water that’s one single, solid color. Crayfish can have greens, browns, blacks, and tan colors to them throughout their body, while bluegill can have tints of blue, black, purple, and pink to them. So the more colors you can fit into your jig, the better, in most situations. Throughout my fishing career I’ve heard repeatedly that the more simple the color the better, and have been successful that way- don’t get me wrong. But when you’re trying to “match the hatch” or be more natural with your presentation- you want to get as close as possible to whatever you’re trying to imitate. Multiple colors in a skirt can also give you advantage other ways as well. Take this situation for example- say you’re fishing with a Bama Bug colored jig in moderately stained to muddy water with pretty low visibility. Under the water certain colors stick out to bass more than others. So say in this situation blue is the only color bass can get a good glimpse of in the water clarity you’re fishing, and lucky for you Bama bug has the color blue in it- but it also has light brown, black, and dark blue. So if the water clarity changes halfway through the day and the bass start honing in on the color black- you’re still covered by sticking with Bama Bug, you have all the colors you need. By matching the color of your trailer to the color of your jig- you’re doing a couple of things that give you an added edge. First, you’re making your bait look even more natural- by matching the color of your jig to the color of your trailer you give the bass a more natural looking, less suspicious and less questionable opportunity. Second, matching your jig and trailer gives you neat, clean, and natural presentation that’s compact and not only more natural looking, but in some cases moves more naturally through the water

Who do you want to hear from? Going to iCast next week- what do you want to hear about?

A couple questions 1. What do you guys do when you can see a bass (not spawning)- kind of hovering towards the bottom, that's interested in your lure buts kind of "Bullet proof"- My lure can slide right under its belly and it just darts away- or when I can see it and it picks my lure up and holds it with its mouth closed- I end up taking or pulling the bait out of its mouth on the hook set, while watching it (I never even felt a tap). The particular bait I'm talking about is a fluke on a dangleberry rig I was fishing with spinning gear. It'll nose down on it after the first pickup when I'm twitching it along the bottom- but it's pretty skittish afterwards. The spot I was fishing was a deep kind of ditch by a drain with a small flow of current with a hard bottom and on sunny days, clear water, where you can see bass in the water in 1-2 feet. There's no grasss in the spot, though there's a lot on the flat around it. There's one little BRIGHT Green elodea/duck weed clump on the edge of the drain by where the current tapers off, and I've thrown spinnerbaits in the spot and they'll dart out of the clump and look at it- but only once it hits the bottom. Ideas? 2. What's the best practice/method for releasing a bass that had another one follow it to the bank after hooking it? Do you release it in the same spot you caught it in (Shallow water I might add)? This happened to me the other day. I was fishing a weighted fluke rig and there;s a little cove/pocket at the back end of the pond I fish that's pretty shallow and narrow with just a mud bottom. I had a gut feeling, made a cast and had two bass dart over to my lure on the opposite shoreline (I could see them). One took it- I let him ease off with my bait for a few seconds, I set the hook, and right before I liftted him in I saw the other bass next to him. Well I ran down to the other end of the pond and let the bass go (1.5 pounder) and wen't back to the first spot and the other bass was tight to the shore- and when I threw to him (this was 10-15 minutes after the first bass)- he seemingly was trying to avoid my fluke... Ideas?

Since I'm a freelance writer for several magazines- Bassin', Crappie World, Bass West, Bass Quest, and Bass Angler- I was able to obtain a free press pass to iCast this July. Is there anything specific I should check out or see, or that you guys want to know about? Any suggestions on guys I should go meet?

Some info about me: - I'm finishing up my Eagle scout- I've been in scouts since 2nd grade, I will have it by August - I've started and am running my business for 3 months - I'm a published author with over 13 print articles in various NATIONAL magazines - I fish bass tournaments, and have 14 companies sponsoring me - I started and am running a Bass fishing club at my high school softmore year - I started an annual charity fishing tournament thats community wide at my school - I'm a B and C student with sometimes anywhere from 1-3 A's on my report card - I attend Our Lady of Good Counsel High school, a private catholic school - My strengths are English and history - I struggle in Math (Mild learning disability), and math Based sciences - I want to major in Marketing - I got the Christian character award this year, junior year. - I got a 1400 on my PSAT- I excelled in the writing/grammar section, but fell in math - I live less than a half hour from Washington DC Where should I be looking at? Will any of the above help me with admissions? I'm looking for somewhere thats not HUGE, and up to $30,000- do I have a chance at scholarships? Where should I be looking at with everything I've mentioned?

Hey Guys, do any of you know of a tool or method that lets you make skirts quickly. Also, do you guys know of anything I can do to increase the durability of the skirts? How are you guys getting a neat, clean cut on the ends of your skirts- what scissors are you using? Where's the best place to buy bulk skirt material?

There's a nice sized community lake by my house I have permission to fish through my bass club I started- but all I can catch are 9, 10, 11 inch bass, rarely anything bigger than that. The lake is pretty big in width and length and has deep water in the middle with shallow sides with flats, backwaters, and islands. Only bass and bluegill inhabit the lake. There's chunk rock and gravel on the sides of the islands and the water can by dingy to stained at all times, I went out just last Saturday and caught 37 bass on a drop shot and missed many more. Any suggestions for finding the "big ones" of the lake? My biggest out of there is 17 inches caught last may on a prop bait. Where should I target? I've lost the little metal hooked dowel that comes with the tool- will anything else work? Need it ASAP

As you may know, I've had some pretty good success drop shotting a Strike King elaztech Finesse worm. I want to try other baits though, but my confidence is in baits that can float my drop shot hook. I recently god some LFT Baby Ring fries- would that work? I also habe the Tiny LFT Live magic shads (meant for crappie)- would they float well on a drop shot? I'm fishing anywhere from less than a foot to 3-4 feet on the lake by my house from shore. What length leader should I use to make it float/suspend, I'm using a 1/8 ounce Salamander sinker.Any ideas?

Well I caught 38 today, but missed a lot more. They're either hooked near the eyes, through the bottom lip, or the really thin fleshy cheek part, most of them I can see- I even let them run with it for a few seconds and I'm still pulling the bait away from them.

I've tried it all. These fish are up shallow cruising. They're really active too. Most of the bigger fish were Just tiny taps. But when I hooked them, they went absolutely nuts running. I tried not waiting, waiting, letting it sit after missing them, reeling down, and doing nothing at all. I don't know how we'll they're eating it. I was using a pretty sensitive rod too

How long do you wait to set the hook? How do you keep them from getting off during the fight? How hard/fast do you set the hook? Using 8 pound test on a 7' medium drop shot rod. Fish are hitting it pretty hard- hooking up and pull off during the retrieve, shaking the hook, or just coming off after a few head shakes. Fishing shallow water flats. I was nose hooking a elaztech finesse worm With a small octopus hook.
