  1. A man can't buy a good armadillo helmet in this part of the country...
  2. Same here. A sobering and frightening day. We saw the worst, and the best of humanity. Man's capacity for both good and evil is hard to understand. May God bless America.

Good news about your dad. 8-) Good luck in the tourney.
  4. Your uncle may in fact be crazy. He may also be right, as crazy as it sounds to you. The point is, we don't have any idea how old the earth is, or how big space is, or what else is out there. There is no agreement among scientists, let alone theologians.

I agree that spirited debate of controversial subjects is a good thing. Talking about politics, religion, civil liberty, morality, war, peace, and the other issues that unite and divide us is important. It just doesn't work in this format. Before politics and religion were off-limits topics here, we had some very interesting discussions, but they always ended badly. Without accountability or filters, we don't play well together.
  6. You don't need that kind of money. Just get someone to televise it. You'll have people lined up around the block. With some of the "reality" shows that are on now, I don't think it would be a problem to find a producer willing to give it a shot. Another possibility is to put it on a mixed martial arts card. I'm just thinking...
  7. Uncle Leo I wish I had enough coordination to use either hand for casting. It would save wear and tear on the right arm/wrist. There are some who easily use both RH and LH reels. I think that is very useful thing. I just don't have the ability to do it.
  8. I could not care less. I use brand* baitcast and brand* spinning. I could be just as happy with brand *, *, *, or even *.
  9. As my mother got older she used to say,"getting old is not for sissies". Man was she ever right.
  10. Tell that to the lion. ;D
  11. Thanks for the report RW. Maybe I'll try some Seagar line next season. My limited experience with fluorocarbon has been that it tends to kink easily. I'm curious how this line holds up in use. I know you have long been an advocate of changing line only when needed. I have been an old school believer in keeping fresh line on the reel, but since I've started using YZ and P-Line treated with KVD I am rethinking my position. While the Seagar lines are more expensive, if they hold up well, the cost of use isn't as hard to justify.
  12. When I read the title I was in! Now that I know it is naked, and considering the 1972 lion incident, I am no longer interested.
  13. Same here. I am more comfortable controlling the rod with my, "power hand". I also recommend playing with both to see what feels right for you. Some guys use both. Whatever works... 8-)
  14. As has been said, it depends on the fish. Lure placement is sometimes absolutely the difference in catching fish or going home skunked. Sometimes they will be tight to cover and a carefully placed bait that hits them on the nose is the only way to catch them. Sometimes it is a pocket deep in the thickest, nastiest stuff you can find. Seasonal patterns, and bait speed, depth, size, color, and a countless other factors come into play. There is a lot more to bass fishing than being able to cast accurately; but watch any professional bass fisherman and it quickly becomes clear they are very deliberate in how they work a spot. Lure placement is often the secret that catches that one big fish living in the prime location. Good luck. Enjoy the process. Bass fishing is a really good time. 8-)
  15. Some of us get lucky and live to tell about it, some don't. Every one who has spent much time on the water has done some boneheaded stuff. I have had a few of those, "I'll never do that again" moments. Some have enough sense to learn from others; most of us have to learn the hard way. Dumb guys like me sometimes have to learn more than once. :-[ Maybe your story will keep someone from making the same mistake. 8-)
  16. Glad you stayed in the boat, soiled pants or not. Rivers make me nervous under ideal conditions. Performance boat on swollen river-no thank you. I bet you don't do that again.
  17. I am using CXX on most of my gear this season. It is by far the best line line I've used. I have 6# on my spinning reels, and 12 or 15# on my M and MH baitcasters. I think 10# for that rod, and those applications would be a fine choice. I would recommend treating the line with KVD Line and Lure for the best performance. As you can see by the few responses, line preferences are very subjective. Some of us love CXX, others not so much. Many love YoZuri, some of us not so much. The list is long...fortunately most of the mono and copolymer lines are inexpensive. If you try one and don't like it, it won't break the bank to try something else. Good luck.
  18. That's not stubborn. I think your right, clear coating would be the cherry on top. I want one! 8-)
  19. Jimzee I've always thought these reels were sweet looking. Your treatment takes them to a whole new level. Beautiful work. I want one! It probably would not have cost much more to polish the externals of the reel to a mirror finish during manufacturing. Raul when you get that time machine working, you can smack the designer and suggest a real polished finish. The idea wasn't bad, just not finished.
  20. An interesting discussion. I have upgraded bearings (7s) in one of my PQs. There is a very marginal improvement in casting, I think. :-/ It makes sense to me that a higher rated bearing in a device that rotates at sustained high speed would be desireable. Less vibration, friction, and heat would improve bearing life and probably performance. Ksbasser I think your empirical evidence shows that in fishing reels bearing rating is not the only factor when replacing bearings. Just curious, what bearing do you generally recommend?
  21. I am one that has limited resources, so I have mostly moderately priced gear. It is good enough not to limit me too much without breaking the bank. If I could afford to I would have high-end tackle. That is much more about want than need IMHO. Your comment that a $500 club can only do so much with a $10 swing is very true. It is also true that a $500 swing would be hampered by a $10 club. In golf and fishing, having the right tool for the job is a good thing. There is huge difference from high-end to low end. Most of us end up somewhere in the middle.

As Glenn has said many, many times this is a fishing forum. We do have a forum that allows for civil discussion of most topics. There are plenty of forums where you can discuss, fight or rant about politics, religion, civil disobedience, sodomy, mother raping, father raping, whatever. An "anything goes" forum would not be a positive step in my humble opinion.
