  1. Congratulations my friend. A baby girl is a precious thing. My baby girl is now 35 and has 4 babies of her own. I really must be getting old! I wish you and yours all the best.
  2. I use it on almost all of my combos. It takes a little getting used to, but is worth the effort in my opinion. It really is a matter of choice. Some think braid is the only answer, others fluorocarbon, copolymer or mono. I recommend giving them all a try. Good luck.
  3. Congratulations! Grand babies are a real blessing. Glad all are doing well.

Yes, that is the proper response. Get the incident on video if possible, take photos, post to the interwebz, review video/photos, call friends, call 911/seek medical help after a couple of more hits/drinks of the mind altering substance of the day...
  5. I can't imagine that any boat dealership is going to be able to sell enough to justify the inventory. Fishing related items like landing nets, life jackets, rain gear might work. I would not be too hopeful though. Just my .02, good luck.

Excellent point! No wonder we spend so much time discussing these matters and so much money on gear. It is very complicated. While dinosaurs are fairly rare in most parts, they are certainly as common as other species often discussed here!

A-jay and Sloan for a bait that size you are going to need a bigger hook, especially when targeting Tyrannosaurus. A double rifle in 500 Nitro Express is my go-to for "landing" this species.
  8. Even Cardinal baseball is unlikely unless it is in September or October. I love music but not in my boat!
  9. Two centrifugal brakes is a good place to start if you have some experience. The beauty of the dual system is you can add magnetic as needed. Much depends on how you are using the reel. Pitching requires a little less brake and a bit more thumb! Bombing a big spinnerbait in the wind will need more braking...
  10. Gaga is spectacular. I don't care what she looks like, the woman can sing. I do think she looks good as a blond...or brunette...or redhead....
  11. I am not a fan of live bait for bass. I would either figure out what artificial baits work, target another species or find another lake.
  12. Copolymer line works well for "contact" baits. I used YZ or PLine CXX for years with good success. I use fluorocarbon now for this application, but would not hesitate to use copoly again if I needed to.
  13. Over the years many baits have been in the spotlight like the Ned is now. Grubs, "frenchfries", Senkos, dropshot, shakeyhead and many others have been that "can't miss" bait. I have caught many fish on all of these baits, and at times believed that a wacky Senko or a 3" grub on a light jig would always work, yet I have been skunked using them all. This I know: There is no one bait that always works in all situations. I really enjoyed the Swindle video. He is an honest guy that says what he thinks. Sometimes that is more than he should, but I have that same trait...
  14. While you can find plenty of misinformation on this thread, it is not DVT that is doing it. Mike makes the point that the right rod is far more important for distance than the reel. I completely agree. Yes there is some differences in distance across the spectrum of quality, commonly used bass fishing reels; but, on the same rod, using the same line and lure the difference in distance will be negligible. This assumes well maintained and set-up reels in the hands of a skilled caster. Now have the same person take anyone of those same reels (or all of them) and a selection of rods of various manufacturers in assorted lengths, power and action, making sure the weight of the lure is within the range recommended by the manufacturer. The difference in distance from rod to rod will be dramatic. Mike is one of the most respected individuals on this site. He has helped many of us with maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of our equipment, often at no charge. His common sense is apparent to anyone paying any attention. For others the jury is still out...
  15. Yes, she means they are not the same.
  16. Fun thread. By which I mean I am enjoying the exchange of ideas, not like the fun of pulling the thread to open a bag of dog food! I agree with A-Jay that one can learn much about language and fishing vernacular here. Whether it is of any value in a discussion of the proper use of English is questionable. As buzzed bait mentions, with the advent of texting and internet speak, written language, if not dead is certainly on life-support.
  17. A lot depends on your fishing style. If you do much pitching/flipping, a recessed deck is a pain. For more open water, especially in rougher conditions, not so much.
  18. I agree: The one you can tie easily and correctly is the right answer. I have tried most, and my current favorite is the San Diego Jam knot. Tying a good knot requires some skill and practice. When I watch something mindless on TV, I sometimes practice knot tying. Developing the muscle memory will save time and fish, especially in low light conditions.
  19. This thread keeps coming back! Floridafishinfool I can't help respecting your compassion for the men who resigned their positions. For the employees of Ranger the success of the company is what's important. For the executives who left, that is simply the way business works. These men had great careers with Ranger. Now they can find something else to do. It will be interesting to see what happens with Ranger. I wish Morris and Ranger well.
  20. I am sorry for your loss. I learned a long time ago with my parents that the system is broken. I will keep you and yours in my prayers.
  21. I can't offer any advice about the business end of things or the market for a yak based business. What I can say is really successful fishing guides have great people skills and are committed to serving their customers. Good luck.
  22. C&G as has already been said, coming here to howl at the moon is OK, but this is not the place for real counseling. I will add my thoughts. They are worth what you paid... Being a man is not an easy journey for most of us. Life happens and it is in the tough times when real growth occurs. Unfortunately most of don't recognize that until well after the fact. Years later we look back and realize that our character and strength is a result of our struggles along the way. A-Jay is right though you can't really understand it now, but life is short. I can say this with authority: Feeling sorry for yourself is destructive. Do what needs to be done to the best of your ability. When you fail, as you sometimes will, pick yourself up and move on. If you need help, get it. Good luck.
  23. Goose my friend it has been a while since I've fished in conditions like that! I have been there and done that, but I am to old to take the cold anymore. I am sitting here in my 70° living room with several layers on... I also think that a little wear and dirt add character. I have more than a little wear on me!
  24. I agree. While I think paper and ink catalogs are going the way of pork trailers, if they are going to print them they ought to give all the details of the limited items in them.
