  1. I learned my lesson in a former life. I was working on a job at a hospital and university complex in St Louis. I could get in early and park at a meter, and the fine for the day was less than the cost and hassle of parking in a garage. I would go once a week and pay my fines. What I didn't know was that once you got over a couple of outstanding tickets they put you on the "tow" list. I came out one day to see my company van being hooked to a tow truck. When I tried to convince the local police officer that I would pay all the fines and he should let me go, he told me I had two choices, either let them tow my van or go to jail. I said if I go to jail you are still going to tow my van. He agreed, and I realized that I was about two words away from being cuffed. By the time I paid a"dangerous" hookup fee, towing, impoundment, fines and penalties it cost me $400 and a half a day of jumping through hoops. In the movie Cool Hand Luke he ends in prison, and ultimately dead for messing with the parking system. Don't let this happen to you!
  2. Follow the money. I don't follow either tour closely, but the pros will go where they can get the best deal.
  3. I agree with DVT. A beginner is not well served with a cheap reel, but does not need a high end reel either. The quality of reels now available for around $100 is amazing in my opinion. Methods and materials have come a long way.
  4. The PQ is a good reel. The knothead got that right. There are some folks at BP who know what they're talking about, and some who don't know beans from buckshot. Just like most big retail businesses . A Pro Qualifier is not a difficult reel to use. A different baitcasting reel, especially a cheaper one, will not be any easier to use.

Sam this team can be as good as any, or just clueless at times. They're fun to watch when they are working hard and taking play away from the other team. When they are just going through the motions they make me want to break something. You would think at my age it would not matter enough to make me talk to myself. It does, and I do...
  6. I have caught some good ones on Kincaid Lake here in Southern Illinois, which isn't too far from St Louis. Usually they just steal my crankbaits...
  7. I haven't had a day like that for a few years. Way to go!

We're back...at least for one period. This is the team that could win it all. Let's go Blues!
  9. I have many hours of fishing on a couple of President spinning reels I have had for years. They sell new for $60ish and are a great value. I can't speak for the baitcasting reels.
  10. I agree that we like what we like, and I am always puzzled when someone feels the need to post for the reason of criticizing a popular product. Doing so in the context of a post asking for opinions or praising a product is one thing. To do so just to stir the pot seems like a waste of time. Of course many things are overrated, including most opinions...

Only 7 more games?! We may have started our traditional not showing up in the postseason. I can accept getting outplayed, but out worked is another thing. We are still in this if we get back hitting and grinding. If not this will soon be over. Let's go Blues!!

    Still only 7 more...

Spam is much saltier than cat or dog food... Given a choice I would choose pet food over spam, animal byproducts and all. Heaven only knows what is in Spam.
  15. Yes, there is enough stretch in monofilament to matter to me, especially lighter line in deeper water. I use fluorocarbon for any application that requires a sensitive feel. This is based on countless hours on the water. Yes, I know that fluorocarbon also stretches and do not want to restart that argument. Catt and many others love Big Game, I don't. You can't argue with Catt's success, but BG doesn't make me happy! Some will tell you braid and a leader is the answer to any line question; I would rather use Big Game! My point is that you can only answer these questions for yourself on the water.
  16. I have owned aluminum fishing boats for years. Having a 24 volt digital controlled trolling motor is the only way to go in my opinion, especially if you are looking to fish from daybreak to dark. I have an 80# Fortrex on mine, and don't regret the extra couple of hundred dollars it cost. I have limited income and have to be careful with my fishing expenses, but having plenty of power and battery every time I am on the water is a valuable thing.
  17. Another vote for Red Label. Easily manageable and durable. Great line for the money.
  18. I am sorry for your loss C&G.

After the Blues breaking my heart regularly for years, they have made it out of the Central Division. They beat both Chicago and Dallas without crumbling when things went bad like they have in the past. I now believe we can win it all. Heaven help me...

I had a moment a while back while grocery shopping when I decided that I needed to have some of the foods of my youth. I usually am very disciplined when shopping and only buy what's on the list, but nostalgia won out. I bought Spam, Potted Meat, and Vienna Sausages. Fatty, salty, and disgusting meat-like nastiness...unwanted garbage advertising is well named.
  22. I use it regularly. Yes, it makes a difference. No, it is not a gimmick. Some folks may not notice the difference, but some folks swear that Ugly Stiks are as good as any other rod or all fluorocarbon is unmanageable. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  23. I completely agree. There was a time back a few years when politics and religious discussions were allowed here. After a couple of years, it became apparent that these topics were divisive by nature, especially in this format. There are many other forums where you can have your say about anything that flips your switch, using whatever language that makes you happy. Glenn and the others have done a great job of making this an interesting and informative place. I like the mix here. If I have a fishing related question or want to know what bait or tackle is hot I can find out here. If I need info on the where to find the best scrapple, music, bigfoot photos, or many other necessary things, I can probably find answers here as well.
  24. Glad you weren't seriously hurt and thanks for posting. It is unbelievable how little attention some people pay to safety. I shoot alone or with a trusted friend most of the time for this reason. I have offended friends telling them how they handle their weapons is dangerous. The 4 Safety Rules have to be followed carefully or bad things happen. Not everyone gets it...
  25. Welcome to the forum. Line left outside, especially in the sun, will degrade fairly quickly. You don't say what kind of line your using or how long it has been on your reel. Mono, copolymer, or fluorocarbon need to be replaced from time to time. How often depends on use and storage, and who you ask. Braid is more durable when stored properly. All these lines have their uses, but none of them should sit out on the porch.
