Research
Hi guys, I am doing a little survey for a small lure company. I don't own the company and I am not really employed by the company. For the most part I am trying to help them better reach their customers and make changes according to what the customers need and/or want. What I need is for about 20-25 bass anglers to answer some very short questions and look at some different aspects of the company and tell me what you think. If you would like to take 5 minutes (or so) of your time to answer these questions, please send me your name and email address in a private message on this site. It's pretty simple really, I just email you the questions and you answer them in your own words and email it back to me. Thanks JT Bagwell

Quick Questions.
Thanks for the feed back. As I stated before, it's not a "club" so to speak, that was just the only word that came to mind at the time. What I was referring to was an idea from a "Single" custom lure business. I wasn't referring to a group of companies or anything like that. Here is a more simplified example. Lure Company X would allow you to join their program for Y number of dollars per year. This annual fee would allow you to purchase lures from Company X at the price that they charge tackle stores. That's the extent of it. This is something that was mentioned to me. I am in no way saying that it is something that this company will or will not do. I have my personal opinion about the whole concept but I was curious what other anglers thought. JT Bagwell

Quick Questions.
I was involved in a discussion tonight with someone that is involved with a lure company. One of the topics in our brainstorming session was an idea to allow anglers to sign up as a member of some sort of "club" (for lack of a better word at this point). There would be an annual membership fee. As a member you would have the ability to purchase baits at wholesale cost (the price tackle dealers pay for their products). This is "typically" 40% under retail (the price you would pay at a store). So here are my questions (all hypothetical): 1. Would you be interested in something like this? 2. What is the maximum you would be willing to pay to join? 3. Why do you think a club like this would/ would not benefit you? Don't worry, I am not going to try to sell you anything. This is basically to get outside, unbiased opinions. Thanks JT Bagwell

crankbait rods
I use the Pflueger Trion 6'6" Medium action rods and more recently the All Star Titanium Series 6'6" Medium action rods for Cranking. If I recall the Pflueger rods retail for about $70-$80 and the All Star rods are $199.95 and yes they are worth every cent that they cost me. JT Bagwell

Does lure advertising effect what you buy?
I kind of figured that's who you meant but I don't go around assuming things anymore. ;D Some people get mad about that. It's no big deal though. JT Bagwell

Big bass when small bass are biting
I agree 100% with the Jig and Pig. When I am jig fishing, I don't have to wade through a moutain of short fish to get a keeper. Like Craig said, if you get bit on a big jig, you know it will be a nice one. JT Bagwell

where do you come from
I reside in Rock Island, IL (about 2.5 hours straight west of Chicago). The area I live in is called the Quad Cities. Our biggest claim to fame is this is where John Deere tractors are made. My house is about 5-10 blocks from the Mississippi River. We have hosted a Bassmaster event, FLW Tour Championship and this years RCL Tour Championship. Overall the fishing in this area is pretty tough. If you go a little north or south on the river its better but not right on the pool I live on. JT Bagwell

Does lure advertising effect what you buy?
I think television advertising affects everyone, whether they realize it or not. If it didn't, companies wouldn't spend millions of dollars per year doing it. Although you may not run right out and buy that particular bait the same day, the advertisement builds name and/or product recognition. So even two months later if you are walking through Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas and you see Lure X or Brand X you will recognize it. Typically if you recognize something you are more apt to give it further examination. When I was in college, product and brand recognition was something that the professors really stressed in all of my Advertising and Marketing courses. Therefore, I have to believe it is very important. As I stated before, I think it affects everyone whether it is obvious or subliminal. Just because you don't notice something, doesn't mean that it isn't happening. JT Bagwell

Is bass fishing the same big or small?
Ok..... Just seemed a little ironic to me that you posted the same info a day after the another site article but if you say you didn't read it, then I have no real reason to doubt you. JT Bagwell

new bass boat
I have a TR20 but have never rode in a TR186. If it is anything like my boat you will love it. Tritons are pretty quick and stable. One thing I would suggest is going to the Triton boats website and getting their FREE DVD. It shows how their boats are built and stuff like that. I have only been in 1 stratos (about a 21 footer I think) and it was also a nice ride. JT Bagwell

Portable Fish/Depth Finders
Bassin101, I always used the regular batteries in the portable unit. I would go to the dollar store and load up on them for a small amount of money. The suction cup works great when the back of the boat is clean. I am not sure how well it would hold up to high speeds because I have only used it on my little boat. I never tried the transducer on a string trick but I would imagine that it would work as long you were moving slow. The most important part would be to make sure the transducer is pretty level just below the surface of the water. JT Bagwell

Minn Kota or Motorguide
LOL This is what I expected to happen. I would be curious to see if 2/3 of all Pros really use Motorguide though. Personally I thought it was a pretty close split but I never paid that much attention before. JT Bagwell

Do you use painted lead?
When I fish with soft plastics like Worms, Kreatures, etc. I use Tungsten weights. The ones that I use are unpainted. JT Bagwell

Bass Books
I have read the Kevin Van Dam book and the Jay Yelas book and both were very good. Other than that I just read some articles from time to time and watch fishing DVD's. JT Bagwell

Chris, If that color section technique works for you, by all means keep on doing it. I sure won't knock something that works for someone. JT Bagwell

boat question
I would sure think you could get an older boat in that category for around $1,500 - $2,000. Check your local Classified Ads, fishing websites and even ebay. JT Bagwell
