  1. Afternoon folks, I am in the market for another spinning reel. I was going to ask about an Abu cardinal because it's in the same $$ range as the Pfleuger president which I have but, just saw on BTW a LEWS Tournament LFS that I like the looks of. I wouldn't say it's close $$ wise, but it also isn't way out of my ballpark. I've never heard of LEWS so would like your input. Thanks
  2. Is this the correct order to fish them? I use those two as examples because that's all I've been using for the last 8 weeks (just getting into this Bass thing and wanted to learn the senko first). I carry two setups, one senko rigged weightless (Texposed) and the other has had either a spinnerbait or a chatterbait. I work an area with the senko and then follow up with the other before moving on. I have been catching fish on both baits but wanted to hear opinions. Recomendations on other or sharing of your combinations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  3. Didn't realize that BrentB. Thought they were out of Alabama but that's ok, it's right next door. Bassking, those small paks for a buck must be the same that our local Academy Sports have for .99 in bargain boxs. They are promo paks that I think they are getting rid of, they contain half the number of baits that a regular bag does but for less than 1/2 the regular price so it's still a good deal (a buck gets you enough bait to experiment with to see if you really like them). Our place has 5" & 6" T-Sticks, Cane Sticks, Kriet tail worms and one other bait I believe in the box. I'm glad I went thru them because I found a bunch of 6" sticks in Kiwi color which I don't see offered on their site anymore. I haven't even fished it yet (kiwi) but I think it's going to be a killer.
  4. If this is the case thanks, good to know. Guess I'll never have to agonize over which brand of trick stick to go with, just grab the most cost effective one. I've added some juice to let this bag soak in and am feeling really confident.
  5. Stopped in to one of the big boxs for another bag of senkos and found a few local tournament fishers filling baskets. They were into the Zooms, GYBC, Netbait, etc and I noticed a couple filling up with Big Bite items. Got my attention so I asked and they said it does catch fish. The trick stick looks identical to the senko although I don't think it's as fat, just a hair under I believe. For 1/3 the cost I picked up a bag, upon opening IMO texture isn't quite as mushey (salt content?) and there is more of a plastic smell to it but I still am looking forward to fishing it. Haven't had a chance to see what kind of action they have in the water but will drop one in the kitchen sink tonight. As the title asks, anyone fishing it?
  6. OK, the color/line watching ability makes the decision for me, that's one thing I really like about the Ultra, my eye sight is not what it used to be are. I thought the Hybrid came in same color but see that it's camo gr. not mist gr. Thanks M/H for mentioning that. Fishing fool, I'm surprised to hear this, I see so many posts raving about the abrasion resistance of the Y-Z, are they directed more toward the Hybrid? Since you say "you are fishing the shell/gravel areas" is it possible that other lines would take a similar beating as well? In my case the waters I'm currently fishing are quite tame so the Ultra should be fine, thanks for the head up though. Thanks everyone for all the input.
  7. I'm going to spend some time experimenting/trying to learn to fish the C-rigg and would like to go with the 12# Y-Z (I'm currently using 8# ultra on my spinning rig and like it). I know the ultra is promo'd as "for spinning" but looking at the spec sheet on both types the numbers are the same (dia, break strenght)so I'm wondering if one is a better fit for a BC. I will be placing an order for 6# ultra for another spinner when I see that TW has it in stock and will get the 12# then as well. As for the over-all set up I'm going with MH/F 7' with the above 12# Y-Z (break strength= 19.5), does that sound like an acceptable C-rigg set up? Thanks
  8. Thanks folks, another bit of good info to put away for future referance. Will also work on the hook set and on the hooks (i.e. file/sharpener).
  9. Afternoon, Situation: lost 2 on a chatterbait (all brown w/black trailer). 1 was on the small side, lost close enough to the boat that I eyeballed it(I attribute that to me, week hookset, hook not sharp enough, all the above). In the same area, a few minutes later lost what felt and looked like a nice fish (broke water), spit it out on the jump. That one I would have definately liked to follow up with something but was clueless as to what. I only had 2 rods with me and at the time, the other was rigged with a weedless/weightless senko. Thought ya'll might be able to give me some options to put away for the furture. Thanks.
  10. Ok ROC, thanks for the explanation, I might be able to wrap my ity-bity brain around that, Catt, thanks for the narration/illistrations. I recall just recently reading about going in through the lower part of the gill after a hook but that's about as far as they went, you just educated me. I appreciate it and am sure the fish will too.
  11. OK, I'm a newbie here on the forum and to targeting bass specifically but not totally new to fishing (trout, salmon, pike, pickrel, etc). I have heard and read that leaving the hook at times is better than ripping up the fish, I believe I read that the enzymes in the fish will eventually break down the hook, I don't know but let's hope. But, I have never heard that you should leave some line attached, I really think that you need to go back and read again the article, makes no sense what so ever! To me mono, co-poly, fouro, etc. is similar to all the plastics we send to the land fill, it will be there a very very very long time if not forever.
  12. I want to pick up a Compre spinning just because, especially if I call and find out TW will give the Stimulus 10% toward a Compre. I currently have: 7' H/F baitcaster 6'6" M/F baitcaster 7' M/F spinning Would appreciate any recommendations on what would be a good addition to the three. Length, power, and action will be fine but if you have the time to add what technique(s) you would do with it would be great. Thanks
  13. Morning folks, I like easy yet reliable, so I've settled on the albright, the Davy and the 16/20 when appropriate. Absolutley love the ease of tying the 16/20 but have noticed that with the 8# Y-Z I'm using it appears to get a bit of ribbon effect (curling as x-mas ribbon does when pulled against scissors) once finally cinched. I don't recall noticing that with 12# Big Game I also use. Just wondering if it is a copoly thing? I give it plenty of saliva.
  14. Bass_ F, Thanks for the heads up. I'm thinking that for $25.00 it's worth a try no matter how it works out (1,2,or 10 yrs.), I'll be one of the 1st in line when/if they go on sale again.
  15. MODs. Please delete, no sense in taking up space. Thanks
  16. Thanks guys. I've edited it to include $ range.
  17. Afternoon all. In my previous post I asked for opinions/recommendations on the techniques that would be best suited for my two baitcasting rods (6'6" medium and 7' heavy). Thanks for the replies. Now I could use some help in selecting a spinner to go with the Phluger president 6735x that is on it's way, it will be spooled with 8# YoZuri Ultra. One intended use for it will be to fish the senko. I could use advice/recommendations on lengths for a mediom or medium heavy fast action in addition to what other techniques a particular one could be used for. Thanks. Knew I was going to need to edit this, should have included $ range. I'm looking in the $100 range, was thinking about a Compre if I can find one local (don't think so though), had 2 independant sporting shops close up in the area and am pretty much stuck with 2 of the Big Box stores. Again, thanks!
  18. Oh goodness QUAKENSHAKE, not what I'm wanting to hear. After much browsing through threads here in the forum I ordered and am expecting a package from T-warehouse with those exact 2 items (8# Ultra AND a President to spool it up on). I sure hope I have better luck than you.
  19. Hello all, 1st post and glad to be here. What I have is: Shimano Convergeance CVC-70H and CVC-66M (both fast, both B-casters). Would like to hear opinions on what each one might be suited for. I would like to stick with just these 2 BCs in addition to a Med-F spinning that I plan on purchasing for senkos and whatever else it might be suited for. I'm a newbe and think it's best that I learn to fish what I have before starting to fill a closet. Thanks for all and any relies in advance.
