  1. Unfortunatly, that is correct. The old bait store was destroyed in that flood a few years back and the land belongs to the private club. There is no public launch as of now. I wrote a few few govt. officials and did receive responses. Seems the club wont give up any land for the state to provide a launch except at a very high price that they will not pay
  2. hey welcome! I am fairly new to the area as well but I can give you a few spots to check out that I have learned the hard way on in a year + I have been around. Closest to you that i know would be Herb Parsons. It is fairly small and idle only but has some decent fish in it. I have also fished on Mckellar downtown but the scenery there is down right depressing at times with the fuel treatment plant there and TONS of litter. I have had good luck at Tunica cut off when the water level is right and the prettiest lake within an hour I have been to is Horseshoe over in Arkansas. Horn Lake (Lakeview) was good for me until the floods last year. There is no boat launch there now. I have yet to hit Enid or Sardis down 55 in Mississsippi but hear they are ok, just d**n big compared to what I am use too. J.P Coleman launch in MS is not to far (2 hrs) to get on the upper side of Pickwick and it is gorgeous and you never know what you will catch there Hope this helps a little anyway. I would be willing to go along sometime when we can make some plans. Folks here are great for help to get you started. Just look around CU
  3. Dang, I seen this a little to late. I made plans for tomorrow. Keep me in mind for your next trip please. Goodluck!
  4. very nice.... I need to get out there dang it!!
  5. I made it over there today (JP). Not a single bass.... all I could get to bite were bluegill, perch a few drum and cats. Water temp started at 49 and ended at 51. Water was still pretty clear and down a few feet from a month ago. I was all over the bait fish, I mean ZILLIONS of them, with bass bustin' them quite frequently. I couldn't get them to bite anything..... 5 or 6 different topwaters, cranks, worms, jerk bait, spinnerbaits. Im thinking I needed a Alabama rig today. I caught all the bluegill and perch on topwater and jerkbaits slow. They came home for dinner
  6. Glad to see my thread still alive and kickin! Would this weekend still be good to fish above around the Coleman launch? Total noob on fishing this time of year here and the family will be gone and I need to go fishing somewhere or should I just stay local?
  7. The forecast scared me off on the trip to pickwick. Ended up going to Horseshoe and only managed 4 keepers all day and 1 BIG cat on a jerk bait
  8. I am planning on going somewhere local (around Southaven) maybe Horseshoe or Tunica on Saturday around noon and planning a trip to JP Coleman on Sunday early morning if there are any takers, let me know. Will be chucking lures all day
  9. Well, I went on my own Sat morning and as mentioned the fog was thick. I fished in the cove at the boat launch and missed 4 fish. Not sure what I was doing wrong or if I was still in a fog myself. Tried to fish the rip rap right outside of the launch and by then the wind had kicked up and it was too rough for my liking. I went to the first bay and fished there most of the day. Ended up catching over 50 fish. 35 largies, 1 smallie, perch, gill, drum, catfish and striped bass all came in the boat. I caught 2 small fish all day, the small mouth was about an 8 incher and 1 small green fish. All the bass were in the 2 to 3 1/2 lb class. I considered this trip a success for never having been there before. I will be going again the afternoon of the 19th and all day the 20th if all goes as planned. The scenery was great as well! 12. Heck yeah! Thats what I'm talking about. Beautiful coloring to that smallie! Great job man Live or artificial bait?
  13. Yeah... I cant believe how much it changes compared to other local water. I look forward to wetting a line with you sometime. Thanks
  14. Well, he had to cancel. Spot is back open. Please contact me if you can go. Thanks
  15. Made it out to Tunica yesterday about 12:30. Man, this water sure has changed since last time I was there 2 months ago. Water was waay down and I beached it twice in areas way away from the bank. Good thing it is all mud bottom. Anyways, I was getting rather frustrated not getting a bite and look at my phone and its 3:59. Made the long haul back to the West end and it paid off. Bass were busting shad in 1 to 2 foot of water. I tried several things, spinner bait, plugs and flukes to name a few with nothing. Finally tied on a T-minus and they went crazy for it. From 4:45 to 6:15 I had 20 to 25 strikes landing several 2 to 3 lbrs. I kept coming back to this one point and there were 2 or 3 fish willing to hit there every time. I lost a 5 or 6 lbr right as it was getting dark in the same spot. I had busted the lip on my lure and grabbed a spare with rusty hooks. I tried to file them real quick, but in hind site, I should have changed them out. It might have got me that fish. Wanted to get back tonight, but was too busy today and I am leaving for Pickwick next weekend, didn't want to press my luck. My best outing on this water for sure. Be careful if you head out!
  16. Man, I want to fish with RW too. I'll ask to take his boat I guess. lynyrdsky1 has signed up to go this weekend. We will post on our day, hope they want to bite for us. Sooo excited to get back on that water!
  17. Hey, I am planning a trip to Pickwick to fish for Bass (large or small), below the dam next Saturday 11/5. I recently moved to Southaven from Indiana and have not been there on my own yet. I would like someone who has some experience there so I dont get myself in trouble. I have done fairly well finding fish on other local lakes, but 2 fishing is always better than 1. I would leave early Saturday morning and arrive back after dark. Have boat, will travel.... some gas $$ would be nice but let me know what is possible. Thanks -Corey
  18. Thats enough info. The water cant be looking as bad as it did a few weeks ago then. It was like chocolate milk thanks
  19. No -- Calling Panther Lake down south of Jackson My link Have you been to Enid or Sardis lately? Are they cleared up yet? I have not hit those yet
  20. Well, made the trip still trying to find a spot to fish down here that isn't so darn big. First off , I tried to find a spot to camp, the closest thing I could find was in Utica about 45 miles away and an hour drive on back roads. Arrived at 5:30 with about 20 other boats on the water at 6:20 I tried some Yellow Magic and a buzzbait to start and not even a boil. Went to the far end away from the stumps, on the rocks and caught 3 shorts right in a row on a wacky rig and then nothing for an hour. Long story short, I caught another 7 bass the rest of the day in 90 degrees on a creature bait all in 12 to 15 ft of water with the biggest being 2 lbs. Not much to brag about. I got the boat stuck on stumps 5 or 6 times, but the ol' Stratos survived. Nice looking lake, I wish they would have taken a little time to make some kind of "path" to get anywhere. It was like this everywhere you went except the very far end of the lake
  21. found it. Here's the link http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/news/story?page=b_attend_2011_Elite_Charge
