  1. So, I started in a club I few weeks ago and I hear A LOT of guys say they fish the BLF divisions in the FLW. So, I stared doing some research on it. I really want to learn as much as I possibly can so I can, hopefully, one day fish in the FLW or in the Elite division of the BASS. I'm 26, married, and have 2 boys. Who also likes to fish right now so I'm trying to figure out what I need to do that would be the best route. As it is right now, I don't have the tournament experience or knowledge to drop $5-800 on entry fees and could not justify that to my wife lol.. I still yet to have a boat... But we are working on that. Helps when u have 2 boys asking for one too lol. Luckily, my club is a federation to BASS so that means if I get so many points as a non boater, I can still qualify for state and regional tournaments. I really want to learn from good guys and pros. I have a few guys that said they would help me out after April. But I would like to fish other tournaments to outside my club. I'm just trying to figure out the best route to go.. Obveusly, I need to get on the water as much as I can. But it's also hard to do when u have to depend on others in order to get on the water... It's frustrating when u want something really bad and u can't get it yet. Lol.
  2. Thank ya sir! Have to get the pool uncovered again to test them out so I can see what's going on.
  3. Lol!!! Yes sir, been married for 7 years this Sunday. Have 2 boys and the crazy women is already talking about putting another one on the ground when our house is done... But I told her that we have 2 kids already and I'm getting a boat before we have another! Lol priorites lol
  4. I have some Smithwick jerkbaits and i want to add a little weight to them to make them suspend like i want them. I watched a vlog on YouTube about adding split rings to them. I have never done that before. i was a buy it and use it type guy until i used my friends in ground pool to see how different baits respond. Like i said, i have never added split rings or changed the hooks on any my lures. What are is the size split rings i need to make a 5/8 jerkbait work more "natural"? Thanks
  5. I am a whopping age of 28 years old Lol...So, i can afford a 70k boat lol... right now anyway. i had a guy tell me a few years ago that its best to start with a used boat that you can afford and then as time goes on, you can always sell it/trade it in for a new or newer one... i wish i could afford brand new, but right now, i cant. What i would spend on a new boat would be over half of what it is costing me to build my house... I dont want a used but i want something that can get me on the water...
  6. I didn't know until earlier but, i can finance a new(er)/used boat from my local Ranger dealer.. think i am going to go that route. I REALLY want a ranger but i wont pay/owe the amount they want for a new. They have a 2012 Z520c for 41k with low hours. he said they get them like that all the time and i could get one like that with the lower payment. yea, i don't get the lifetime warranty like the first owner would get but, i bet it will do what i want it to do, for the time i own it..
  7. yea. its crazy! That is why i am looking into the Nitro's lol... there is no way i could afford an 80k boat! thats nuts! I could get a 70k boat but it would be a garage ornament because i would only be able to pay the payments on it and my house... i would never have the $ to use it lol
  8. ^^^ second that!! I though I would be cool and brake my Revo SX down and clean it and greese it.... After I was done I had some extra parts that I didn't start with... Took it to my dealer to have it out back together correctly. Learned a valuable lesson that day lol...
  9. Yea man! It's crazy!! When he told me starting price was 75k I about choked on my spit!! Lol it's ridiculous!! For the same size boat and dress up, I can save 30k+ just having a Nitro! It's nuts. Hope to hear good things about them... I know I will have it forever but like I said, I don't want to lay on it forever and never be able to afford payments, insurance, then gas to take it out... The payments would murder me for a 70k boat!!! Sometimes I wish I was a blue collar boy that made white collar money lol... BUUUUT... I don't lol
  10. So, at the moment, i am building a house. After my house is done, I am going to be purchasing a new/used bass boat. I heard when Nitro started out, they were the "cheaper" brand boat. It seems like since the Z series boats came out, they look and seem to be better boats. Of course i called a Ranger dealer and when i heard the Z520 was around 70k starting out, I asked him the difference in the Nitro Z20/21 boat and the Ranger Z520. The salesmen of course laughed and said, "Well that's the difference in a Volkswagen and a Cadillac". I really do want a Ranger but DON'T/ WON'T pay 70k for a new Ranger. The boat i am going to get is going to be a lifer... but i dont want to spend the rest of my life paying for it too. I am a blue collar guy so i can't afford a 70k boat! So i figured i would ask if anyone knows anything about the new Nitro Z boats and see if anyone would recommend a Nitro? Thanks!
  11. I bout a spinning 7ft Falcon Cara MH action(made in USA) a couple weeks ago. suited it up with a Abu Garcia Revo STX reel... LOVE IT! Broke it in over this last weekend. I love Falcon and G Loomis rods.
  12. I went to Beaver yesterday. Caught 5 decent large mouth and the crappie are starting to bit. Caught several crappie
  13. Welcome! I live about an hour from your neck of the woods.
  14. I have a lot of Falcon Cara and Lowrider rods. All but one are H and MH rods. My wife got me a XH 7ft T7 falcon rod for me as a surprise for our anniversary last week. So its not like i can say, "You didn't get the right kind". I am not going to get rid of it because i'm not a jerk like that... she had a good thought but i'm sure there is a use for an xh rod. I'm pretty versatile in bass fishing so i'm sure it is a good tool to have but when would it be good to use? Thanks.
  15. I have all Falcon Cara's and Lowriders. Never used a Bucoo but if they are anything like the Cara or lowrider, you got a good deal! I will never get another brand other than Falcon. I have 2 G loomis rods as well... they are pretty good too, but i like my Falcons.
  16. I use to use 17 lbs test Florocarbon Vicious and i started noticing it would do that uncontrollably. Like you said, i would stop it before it hit the water, adjust the tension on it, and it would still bird nest every time. even flipping and pitching i was pulling some line out. I switched to Seager Red label at 17 lbs and no other issues. I have also used Stren. i go for lower line diameter at the same lb test... but thats just me.
  17. Join NWA Bassmasters. its a bass fishing club and they meet up the second Tuesday of every month. next meeting is March 14th at 6:30 at the AQ just off 71 in Springdale. You don't have to have a boat to join. They do tournaments and fun fish. If you want more info, contact Harvey Horne. You can look him up on facebook
  18. Like every anglers dream, we dream to one day be in our boat holding that big Bassmaster trophy over our heads with confetti falling over us celebrating our victory winning the Bassmaster Classic. But where do you start? Just like anyone, every pro had to start somewhere. I have the opportunity to live about a mile from a guy that fished professionally for 4 years and placed 14th in the 1984 Bassmaster Classic. I called him and told him my goals and told him i wanted to be where he was then, now, or in a few years anyway. When we started he asked me if i liked fishing mornings or later afternoons? I said both. Of course i knew that was the best times of the day to catch bass. He responded and said, " Then meet me at my house at 8 in the morning". I asked why so late. The old pro brought a great point. He said, I already knew it was good fishing in the mornings and late afternoons. But if you can't catch fish in the heat of the day, or middle of the day, then your are probably going to get beat a lot." We find the worst possible conditions to fish and load up and go. I have learned A LOT! But i am 24 years old and still never fished a tournament. I want to start. He told me the best way is to start in a local bass club. He said, you will learn a lot of forms and different tactics that work. So then, just to reassure myself, I didn't come from a wealthy family where i can get anything i want, and do not have a sponsor where my lures are unlimited. Right now i have to work for everything i get. I do not have a boat, but what i do have is a tackle box with a varitey of lures, a 7 ft Falcon carra with a abu garcia Revo SX, and a 6'9 Falcon lowrider with a Revo S. I plan on getting a good spinning rod and reel in the next few weeks also. Any help or advise is appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.

  20. Im looking at a Abu Garcia Revo Winch for cranking. Is the 5,4:1 a good ratio for a crankbait reel?
  21. X3 everything he just said is 100% right. mono line, and a crankbait designed rod. when i fist started hitting the lake i had the same set up as you, med fast action rod (not crankbait designed) and floro. i started fishing with a old friend that placed 16th in the 1980 bassmaster classic. i took that rod and used it for crankbait that outing with him. and he noticed i started missing fish, or getting them half way back to the boat and they would come get off. he told me to take my bait off and handed me a falcon cara with 10lb mono (crankbait designed) and told me to put different good quility hooks on the bait and put that crank on that rod. after that i every fish that hit that crankbait i landed in the boat. good learning experience.
  22. 7'6 is a good flipping/pitching rod. with your arm, i wouldnt go anything less than 7'.
