  1. I've been researching new spinning reels as my decade old versions are currently running a little rough. The Pflueger Supreme has an oiled felt drag while the Pfueger Supreme XT has a carbon fiber disc drag for 50.00 more. Could I replace the felt drag pads of the Supreme with purchased carbon fiber drag discs? If that is a possibility, where and how much would fiber drag discs cost? (Is it just a better idea to pay the extra 50.00 for the Supreme XT?) Thanks for the education. oe
  2. My quoted response above was nothing more than a cheap fix for a common problem of spinning reels, not an excuse for the problem. Maybe others will find it useful in-spite of me offending you. oe
  3. I've been using a simpler version of the shown tender for my leader spools: elastic band the width of line spool width; cut 1" longer than circumference of spool; over-lap ends of elastic and sew 1/2" from end of over-lap leaving tab to easily pull elastic band; end of line is pulled and cut from under outside edge of elastic. oe
  4. Here's a cheap work-around for that: Cut a small washer from craft felt and install it under the screw that holds the bail arm on opposite the line roller. You will have to close the bail by hand but it won't fly shut on a cast. oe
  5. Plenty of choices of reels in the ~100.00 price point until you start to require an all metal reel. oe
  6. I'm looking for experienced opinions about the Penn Battle II spinning reel. I'll be using it primarily for casting light plastics to smallmouth. Thanks oe
  7. When it starts to rain just take your pants off... side benefit is most other anglers will give you a little more distance on the bank. oe

  9. You don't hang them from the gills... they hang from the bottom jaw in front of the gill opening. oe
  10. Much of this frequent discussion concerning appropriate reel ratios revolves around what is comfortable for the angler instead of what is most applicable to the bait presentation and the bass' state of aggression. oe
  11. ...kind of like building a house with no tools other than one screw driver. oe

  13. Thank you for your response. oe
  14. I want to take a larger bag of mixed shaped, same color Z-man baits. Easier organization in my bag. oe
  15. I am NOT going to mix Z-man plastic baits with other non-Zman baits so I don't need to have that question answered. I do want to know if anyone has had any problem keeping Z-man plastic baits in PLASTIC BAGS from other bait companies? Thanks oe
  16. I've used many... my current preference is Gopher Tackle's Prowler head (filed on a little) and Brewer's "classic" Spider head. oe
  17. You can have any brand, shape or size, but only ONE color of plastic to fish year-round. Will you be as successful over multiple seasons as with no color restrictions? oe
  18. ... but you can't take every rod in the store out for a test run. Does it make sense to assume that narrowing the lure weight spread to the lighter end of the suggested parameter a rod company is indicating the rod is of a SLIGHTLY lighter action than a similar rod with a lure weight spread that extends heavier? oe
  19. Old topic... different question: comparing three rods from the SAME MANUFACTURER, all 6' 1/2' length, all labeled medium power/ fast action. Labeled lure weight on 1st. rod 1/4 - 5/8; 2nd rod 1/4 - 3/4; 3rd rod 1/4 - 7/8. Will rod #1 with the lighter top end lure weight suggestion likely be more limber when playing a caught bass? oe
  20. Where would the deep Shadow Rap fall into this discussion? oe
  21. Hog Basser... I don't know anybody who fishes that bait and I have a couple questions. Do you fish it in lakes, streams or both? Do you leave the front treble on when fished? How does it fish through weed covered bottoms? oe
  22. RoadRunners... for years oe
  23. What happened to the "Let the bass tell you what they want" philosophy?... oe
  24. That''s the one... who's crank is it? oe
  25. There used to be a commercial bait painted in that orientation... haven't seen it for a while? oe
