  1. 6lb (sometimes 4lb) fused Fireline both with and without a 6lb fluoro leader... oe
  2. Thanks for the info about the lack of a foot control with the PowerDrive. I've been using a 42lb thrust since '92 so a 30% increase should be an adequate improvement and keep me in a 12 volt system. I appreciate the input. oe
  3. First of all I wouldn't have a 4000 sized spinning reel for my bass fishing, but since you do... I've used all of the lines you've mentioned and currently am comfortable throwing Fireline on all of my spinning reels, 6lb & 10lb. You appear to be going a little heavier than I do with spinning gear so maybe the 14lb. Fireline would be a better choice for you. oe
  4. The MinnKota website showed it as an option with 54" shaft... oe
  5. I haven't been in the trolling motor market for more than 20 years, but have decided maybe it's time to upgrade. I'm comparing a Terrova 55lb thrust/54" shaft/ I-pilot/ US2 with a PowerDrive 55lb thrust/ 54"shaft/ I-pilot/ US2... Is the Terrova's lift assist the only difference between these two motors? I'm not interested in the I-pilot link capabilitiy. Thanks oe
  6. I don't believe "reconditioned" products come with a warranty... oe
  7. a #4 short shank hanging from a fairly large split ring works for me... oe
  8. I'd consider it a design flaw and exchange it for a different model reel... oe
  9. I always have fished a spinnerbait with some sort of trailer attached, sometimes a plastic grub or worm, sometimes a tied on bucktail or bunny strip trailer. Because of the attached trailer I've never used a trailer hook with my spinnerbaits. This next season I want to fish my spinnerbaits with a trailer hook as much as the cover will allow me. My interest is whether or not a dressed trailer hook would add anything positive to the presentation. Do any of you tie hackle or mylar to your trailer hooks? Rig them with a plastic grub/worm? I'm looking for opinions either for or against, especially if there is experience behind the opinions. Thanks oe
  10. In-Fisherman boys suggested pinching a rubber core sinker (after removing the rubber) to the hook shank of spinnerbait some years ago... oe
  11. Check your state laws first... some states require that the plug be removed when trailering. oe
  12. Others have mentioned this above, but I'll repeat... worry more about location and presentation than about tackle. oe
  13. an oxymoron if I've ever read one... oe
  14. If you are concerned with the well being of the bass, don't fish that deep. Bass do make a heart healthy choice for dinner... oe
  15. I hope the purpose of "our" bass fishing isn't to run our quarry to exhaustion after hooking it... oe
  16. I appreciate your respectful response. My post was my back-handed attempt to interject I don't believe ultra-light rods are effective bass rods. Light line I agree with... married to medium-light rods. As for rod action, I'm a proponent of stiffer actions with light power rods. Good fishing. oe
  17. With due deference to Shaggydog, 2 of my 3 spinning reels are spooled with 6lb Fireline the other with 10lb Fireline. I've used Fireline for 20+ years and have fished it along side several other PE lines, including NanoFil and Gliss...each time choosing to stay with the Fireline. Sometimes I choose to add a mono leader, often times not. Good luck with your decision. oe
  18. By "not very close" are you saying the action is more aggressive than the Digger, but less than the Wiggle Wart? I've read that the Wild Thang is supposed to have an unpredictable "hunting action". Have you seen this in your experience? oe
  19. The title of the thread got you here... I'm interested mostly in the action difference between the two baits? oe
  20. And on the eighth day God commanded Adam to tie a fluoro leader to his braid if the braid color bothered Eve... oe
  21. Pretty common practice for the walleye guys oe
  22. Gopher Tackle "Big John's" mushroom head oe
  23. How about fishing the rod with lure weights that "feel right" with it... oe
