  1. And reading the time on the watch was my attempt at humor
  2. "7:09"? Hmmm......Would that be daylight saving time?
  3. The man who believes that women are big sissies, hasn't met all the men
  4. In the future young man, all those "1s" will be replaced by 3s, 4s & 5s Roger
  5. Same here, I haven't worn a watch in years (that's so yesterday) You can't get away from timepieces if you tried. They're in your house, your car, your smartphone and now my sonar unit displays gives me Time & Date. Roger
  6. On the contrary, the lighter the braided line, the limper and more susceptible it becomes to both 'wind knots' and 'line burrowing'. I've used 20-lb braid for years before moving up to 30-lb braid. Moving from 20 to 30 virtually eliminated wind knots and as far as "line burrowing" is concerned, I'd forget it even exists if I didn't hear it mentioned. Roger

Yup, Rick Astley is a big fan of poppers
  8. You said a mouthful. Is it only me, or does everyone remove their prop after every 3rd or 4th outing to extract wads of mono &/or braid? I now keep a breaker bar and wooden block in my starboard locker Roger
  9. The version I posted was an abbreviated takeoff of the original joke, before Spongebob was born...LOL The original rendition was based on the "Fastest gun in the West". A cowpoke is standing with his hand perched anxiously above his holster, and without moving a muscle, he says: "Wanna see it again?" Roger

Of course there's no 'best' popper, but one of my favorite is the Snag Proof Ish Popping Frog. The Ish popping frog can be worked a variety of ways, and if you're looking for a loud 'pop', the double faceplate can be popped to sound like a depth charge. As a bonus, the Ish frog doesn't require repeated wringing out, 'that is', until the hook chamber gets ruptured. Roger
  11. Humph...When did Casio buy-out Mickey Mouse?
  12. Any bass that can tolerate the sight of 2 gaudy treble hooks, is not likely to be very opinionated about the lure's finish Roger
  13. For the past several years, 30-lb braid has been the workhorse on both my casting gear and spinning gear. IMO, it's better to compare fishing line based on line diameter instead of breaking test. Let me explain: The diameter of 20-lb braid is 0.009" (9/1000"), and the diameter of 30-lb braid is 0.011". The difference between 20 and 30-lb braid is 0.002", half the mean diameter of a human hair. But here's the upshot. The diameter of 30-lb Seaguar Smackdown braid is 0.009" (9/1000"), which is the same diameter as 20-lb braid marketed by Power Pro, Sufix, etc. (Checkout the specs) Roger
  14. Terrific! I've noticed that 7-1/4 lb is an extremely stubborn weight ceiling for smallmouth bass. I say that because many state records are (or were) within a few ounces of 7lb 4oz. Roger

Every lure in my tackle box Roger
  16. I realize that many of the boys don't like braid, but it's a shortcut to maximizing hookups (nuff said about braid) As soon as my lure doesn't feel like it's supposed to (?!!?) I promptly set the hook, even with hollow frogs. There's no intentional pause, only the time it takes to move my reel-hand to the rod-blank (for a 2-hand hook-set) I rarely have to wind-up slack line because my rod-tip is generally held close to the water (as you would in a brisk wind) Roger
  17. Depending on the body of water, bass can respond very differently after a T-storm. For example, an oligotrophic lake with a hard perimeter of rock and sand will not get badly discolored. A lake like this will benefit from increased current, particularly at the mouths of inflowing creeks. In the same camp but for a different reason are lakes that are perennially murky. In murky water lakes, bass learn to feed by sound & vibration (it's uncanny!) In sharp contrast though, bass living in gin clear water are sight feeders, where muddy water usually knocks them off their pins. There's a guide who works in the Stick Marsh who actually advises his fares to take a rain check if the water is muddy. Roger
  18. I will now prove to you that the ‘hand’ is quicker than the ‘eye’ Wanna see it again? Roger
  19. My love for pike boats has never wavered, the most utilitarian, fish-catchingest crafts on the water. Roger
  20. Enjoyed your video Andy, nice bunch of hefty smallies from 44-deg water! Your boat is a Mean Machine. I dig that handy tool board & those vertical rod holders, that's good stuff you don't find on $50k bass boats Roger
  21. That is true, Secchi depth expresses only 'half' the distance of visible light (Secchi Depth = Depth that a 12" white disk disappears) However, assuming that the light perception of bass is similar to humans, then Secchi depth would be accurate as-is, because light still has to make a round-trip to reach the eyes of bass. On the other hand, if biologists learn that bass have the light-gathering ability of great horned owls (certainly possible), then we might indeed have to double the Secchi depth Roger

  24. Does an east wind kill the fishing? Well, the prefrontal winds prior to a "cold-front" are roughly southwest. The winds during the passage of a cold-front are variable, and the postfrontal winds after a cold-front are roughly northwest. So east winds are not in the picture. Prefrontal winds prior to a "warm-front" are roughly southeast but a warm front is a favorable condition. If we go below the 30th parallel (below St Augustine, Florida) we leave the prevailing westerlies and enter the zone of northeast trade winds. The problem is, in the zone of 'northeast trade winds', easterly winds underline stable weather. There is one instance notwithstanding, when an east wind can toast the fishing action. When a brisk east wind blows for several hours, it drives the warm surface layer out of the east end of the lake. The act of replacing the water displaced by the wind causes a rotary action in the lake. An upwelling of deeper, colder water in the eastern end replaces the warm surface layer that was blown away. Ironically, the western end of the lake will benefit from a warmwater buildup (seiche). Roger
