  1. its because you were spotted in a cowboys hat in redskins country, shimmy seriously though, people in NOVA seem to not want anyone fishing their ponds, me and my uncle have gotten turned down so many times weve lost count...
  2. thanks, that was at a private farm pond in loudoun county... and the reel is a pfleuger trion gx-7. walmart has them for around 40 bucks i think. I've had it about two weeks now, so far so good, i like it...
  3. throw anything you would throw on other bodies of water....lures arent lake specific...
  4. a couple years ago i was on a trip back from smith mountain lake one weekend in the back of a minivan sleeping, dont really remember the dream, but i remember when i woke up out of nowhere and caught myself actually going through the motions of setting a hook and reeling with my hands
  5. the new look is anything but horrible, it makes things a lot easier than the old site if people would give it a chance and learn how to use the new features. the only thing that bothers me about the new look is the board is no longer centered, but is now justified to the left....
  6. i absolutely hate snakes, am terrified of them. i also dont know if i could fish somewhere with gators without constantly looking for them...
  7. yesterday, 4lbs, 20in
  8. theyre feeding just before they settle down on beds and get lockjaw...
  9. baby rage craw, bought them in february, just broke them out a couple days ago and they have been good to me so far, i t-rigged them on a 2/0 gamakatsu ewg, idont really think it needs to be an ewg though but thats what i got for now, im sure 1/0 would work fine as well and could be even better...but it has proven to be really versatile for me. ive caught fish letting it sit on the bottom with occasionally dragging it. ive caught fish on the fall of the cast, ive caught fish swimming them in the water column. and my favorite so far has been semi-burning them across the top of the water with an occasional pause to let it fall(and it falls really really slow), or actually getting hit while using it like a top water. im sure there is much more i can do with it, thats just what ive done in the last two days....
  10. oh yeah i am, had a blast yesterday with them. caught 1 on a 7in thumper, then switched over to the baby craw, weightless and proceeded to catch another 6 or 7 bass in 45 minutes. i really like the action running them across the top like a top water with the claws flapping, killing them and feeling them get nailed on the fall and i got a 4lber on the top, i will definately be buying more and trying out some of the other rage tails in the near future. those baby craws are tough little sun of a guns too, im still using the first one and caught like 8-9 bass total on it, i did flip it over to get more use out of it, works like new...
  11. how about save the hooks until one of them actually needs hooks. for example, i was throwing a sexy shad earlier this week and just hooked the lure to the rod when i was leaving, time i got to the car the hooks were embedded in my jacket, had to cut them out to remove them from my jacket and replace the hooks later on
  12. i use primarily spinning gear for everything. i did buy my first baitcaster in february, im still learning it, i like it, but as of this moment i dont see it replacing my spinning gear. i also have a couple spincasters laying around i use for nightcrawler fishing on the bottom
  13. what size trion is the reel? i just paired one with an ugly stik pro lite and i put 8lb trilene xt on it, it casts great. 8lb is about as big as you want to go on the size reel i have. i bet i could cast further with 6lb. either your rod and reel arent paired up well(one is too big/too small for the other) or your line is probably too big. also ive read of people having problems with fluorocarbon on spinning reels, maybe change the type of line would help too and just use a fluoro leader
  14. i dont get the every second or third trip, overkill? provided i have no major snags and such, a reel spooled with mono lasts me 2-3 years...
  15. i set mine to where i have to give the rod a little bump before the lure falls to the ground, works well for me and i am new to baitcasters. my biggest mistake is changing lures and forgetting to reset the spool tension. only had a couple backlashes i actually had to cut out so far...
  16. awesome fish i just caught my first ever rage tail(baby craws) fish yesterday, two of them. of course ive never had any rage tails till this year, first fish ive caught on soft plastics all year too...
  17. dont you mean only the dogwoods know
  18. i would start by finding out what else is in there besides bass since you say youre not sure. maybe break out some good old fashioned night crawlers, fish the bottom, fish the upper level with a bobber, see if there is bluegill or crappie or catfish in the pond. chances are you probably wouldve caught a crappie on a bass lure by now though. or ask someone who may know whats in the pond. it definately seems like its overpopulated with bass, but there could also be other fish competing for the same food sources as the bass. like catfish or crappie. bluegill is a nice food source for the bass, but other fish may be competing with the bass directly. if there are catfish and/or crappie you may want to take a bunch of those out too. ive heard crappie will take over ponds and choke them, i imagine catfish would do the same...
  19. i think you need to think about what caused you to love fishing in the first place. im sure it wasnt the tournament money or about being in a zone.
  20. ive had no luck with soft plastics this year in NOVA. But what has worked for me is suspending jerkbaits and shallow diving crankbaits
  21. im not left handed but i reel with my left hand and work the rod with my right. i bought my first baitcaster in february, lefty of course, and caught my first bass on it yesterday...
  22. haha, you been listening to the junkies?
  23. bluegill/bream are notorious for biting the tails off plastic worms, i would suspect them even before a turtle
  24. i dunno about all this scientific stuff so much, but the bass in my NoVA pond are full of eggs, but not yet on beds. what stage of the spawn is this? oh and theyre looking to eat too, caught 4 in a 15 minute period yesterday, but they still wont touch soft plastics....
  25. not exactly on the bottom, but i catch fish on buzzbaits fishing them underwater, oddly enough, never had a top water strike on a buzzbait though.
