Line Conditioner
i decided to get some earlier this year, used as directed on the bottle, applied and let it sit over night. but i really havent noticed much of a difference, then again my line wasnt in bad shape or anything to begin with. never paid attention to casting distance, so it may have helped there. and when i went to setup my spinning reels the line didnt seem like it was as coily for long as normal after they had been sitting unused for awhile. but really, no major differences that i noticed. at times wondering if i got fleeced. oh, it seems it made my knots slip when they normally dont(improved clinch is what i used 95% of the time). im pretty sure its not user error in tying the knot, ive been using that knot forever occasionally ill tie it wrong and itll slip when i check it and i have to retie, but after using the kvd l&l an unusually large amount of knots i had to retie...

U.s. Made Spincast Reels
i got a shakespeare tiger series spincaster combo from walmart about 5-6 years ago thats held up pretty well, its made of mostly metal. its not ultralite though, it comes on a 6'6 MH rod. you look at them now and the newer models are plastic and garbage, i bought one of those too because i liked the rod, reel broke in two days of catfishing with it so its a good thing i bought it for the rod mostly(which now is fitted with an abu garcia 5601 baitcaster). but the older metal spincaster is still going strong and has never given me a problem. it does have a weak drag though, i had a 20 inch crappie from smith mountain lake go on multiple runs with max drag on, hell of a fun fight though. also have landed a 6.5lb striper on it, fun fight there too. i mostly use it for catfishing but get a lot of bonus fish because of the bait i use. had no problems bass fishing with it either. at one time i had 20lb stren on it and could throw light weight lures like a rebel crickhopper a mile despite the line size. i guess i got lucky for a cheap $20 combo, although a few zebcos i owned in that time period have steered me away from spincasters completely(i like to have a couple around). i would probably recommend getting an ultralite spinning combo instead of spincaster as well. overall it would probably perform much better and last longer...

What Are They Hitting?
last time i got out i was catching them on rage tail lizards. a blue gill bit the tail off one, i still caught a couple bass on it, then i hooked one in the gullet and while trying to move the lizard out of the way and use the through the gills method i tore off the back two legs and managed to catch one more bass on it like that before i called it a day. also before i went to the lizard i was having fun catching blue gill with a rebel tad fry and caught a couple bass on that...

1St Time To Fish A Suspending Jerk Bait
i became a believer in suspending jerkbaits earlier this year, back in february when it was still cold out. fishing a pond i couldnt get a bite on anything. remember hearing jerkbaits do well in cold water i decided to pull out the one i owned at that time that i hadnt caught a fish on ever in three years of owning and using it on occasion. well, it worked. caught my first really cold weather bass in february and it was a nice healthy 4 pounder, next cast to the same spot and i give it a couple jerks, pause go to jerk again and the rod loads up so i set the hook into another fish, this time only 1lb but i was just as excited to be catching bass in the winter on a bait that had never worked for me before...

Bassmaster Article W/ Dean Rojas
i never bought into needing a heavier rod or braid to frog fish, especially when 6-7 years ago when i was just getting back into fishing all i had was a zebco 33 with light mono on it. i used it for everything, even frogs. if i could catch frog fish on that then i figure i can catch them on just about any setup. many if you get caught up in the whole "i need a certain rod or reel for this or that technique" and i just cant fall into that line of thinking, but thats just me. half the time when someone on here asks what brand of rod someone would recommend for a certain reel and they even lists rod specs they want, im convinced half the people are just naming stuff they own, use, and like without taking into consideration what the person is asking for, people recommending rods that dont even come in the specs the person listed as wanting in the rod, ive seen this a thousand times on here. and that is another part of the reason i cant fall into the mantra of people claiming you need to have this or that to catch a frog fish, or jig fish, or worm fish, or swimbait fish or whatever. its one thing to want a variety of rods because you dont want to be tying on a new lure every half an hour, but some get way to specific in what the rods for, when in fact i could probably use that rod for almost everything

Fishing Blister
id put a small pin hole in the blister to pop it if you havent and squeeze all the puss out. a bandaid probably would be sufficient enough, and if it does fall off after a few hundred casts just put on a new one...

Catfish Baits
despite what is said, chicken livers do work well for eater size catfish. ive also hooked into a huge probably 30-40lb+ catfish with a single nightcrawler on an abeerdeen hook, i never put a ton of crawlers on my hook for catfishing, one is sufficient. raw shrimp also works well. i have sat there with a live blue gill out for hours and it never get touched, im going to catfish this weekend and give cut bait a try for the first time. lots of people like to use creek chubs, shad, carp, bluegill, white perch, bullheads(yes catfish for catfish) and even....Bass...

Don't Let Cheap Tackle Let You Down
i lost a black crappie in the range of 20 inches at smith mountain lake a few years ago night fishing when a gold abeerdeen hook bent on me. this fish put up a fight and went on 3 runs with max drag on a shakespeare spincast reel i have. this fish was wore out when i got it to the dock, as floating on its side exhausted, of course i forgot to bring the net with me down to the dock and its quite a ways down to the water sometimes. so it was either secure my rod and leave the fish there, run up big hill to the house and get the net and hope the fish was still there when i got back; OR try and pull the fish up on the dock which is what i opted for. so i laid down on the dock on my stomach, reached down and grabbed my line and slowly started pulling the fish up, got all but the tail fin out of the water before the fish fell off just out of lipping range. my hook had bent back a good bit. it was the largest crappie i ever saw and i had no witnesses and no pictures...5 minutes later a huge thunderstorm broke out and i had to quit fishing for the night...

Lmb Guarding Fry, Eating Its Fry?
i saw this yesterday in VA, there was a male and female hanging out around what seemed like a thousand fry in a pond. this was right at the bank and i had nightcrawlers with me. i caught the male first, released him and he dissappeared into the pond. then i observed the female shortly thereafter eating the fry, tossed out a crawler and caught her, she never came back and ate more while i was there. later in another part of the pond i saw fry that appeared to have no bass 'guarding' them
