  1. Ive only used 2 different baitcasters 1 being the Abu silvermax which i had back in highschool and served its purpose. The other being the BPS Bionic (last years model?) which i love, i can cast it a mile, never have problems with it. Ill get a fancy reel one day
  2. i was digging through this bin today. but my hands were already full with some other lures the bomber spinner baits looked cheap, anybody have experience with them the lazy ike was somethin i had never seen before either, anybody throw these?
  3. looks like these guys got you off to a great start,i just started fishing a few years back when i was in highschool. and i started the same way 6-7' spinning setup and Soft Plastics. cant beat em, specially fishing from the shore IMO I caught more bass and had more fun my first year or 2 fishing public areas with nothing but a texas or carolina rig typically with a trickworm.. ive sinced moved and no longer have areas to bank fish, so i got a canoe.. then a jon boat. still trying to figure out how to catch fish from a boat consistently. whole different game just have fun, and start slow dont try to master 10 different techniques at the same time.
  4. Catch a 5lb bass Catch a SmallMouth Enter and win atleast one of the jonboat tournaments im gonna enter.. dont care if i win big bag or biggest bass.
  5. i like his show for the reasons stated. just Fun to watch. someone who enjoys what hes doing. just catching fish. on the other hand theres shows where they have to be catching trophy fish to crack a smile. Same reason i like watching Shaw Grigsby, first time i saw him on tv i just sat there laughing with a buddy, how excited he was catching keepers. around the time i started fishing alot. same reason im happy with ultralight and bluegill when there biting all day
  6. Id definately pull the hub and check the seals. no sense in waiting for a malfunction to tell you the problem... i speak from experience haha. i did a conversion on my jonboat last summer and never got around to fixing up the trailer... first trip of the season this year (last friday).. a bearing seized just a mile from the house. and i popped the tire and ruined the rim dragging it home.. tire needed replacing anyways ... my inner seal was destroyed from some fishing line that was wrapped around the axle, lettin water in
  7. i just run my jonboat up on shore and head for the trees unless theres completely noone in sight on the river. id be pretty mad if i got caught for indescent exposure for relieving myself
  8. yeayea dont get used to seeing kimbrel giving up runs haha.. theres really no excuse for only scoring 1 run. guys need to stop swinging for the bleachers. Cant wait for opening day .. just wont feel right without Chipper though
  9. Only thing. i had any consistent luck with on the river last year. Fishing rock walls with this cheap walmart crank. Caught nothing big but quite a few bass and some nice size bluegill
  10. Only war movies i care for are based on history. WW1-2 being most recent Heres a few Last of the Mohicans, The Crossing, April Morning, Enemy at the Gates, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Ride with the Devil, The Patriot, Braveheart
  11. Spinnerbaits... can not catch fish on them. Have been bass fishing regularly. For 6ish years.. diff colors sizes and brands every year and not one single hookup. Maybe this is the year gonna try my best to figure those things out. Every angler swears by them My standby of softplastics carolina or texas rigged has not worked so well either. Ive always bank fished primarily till this past year i built up a jonboat and seems like i gotta relearn how to fish.
  12. heres my Jonboat still not completely finished but its ready for water once again. still need to mount my minnkota edge on the bow 14' GameFisher Johnson 9.9 Minnkota 30lb (stern) Bilge pump Lowrance DSI Storage compartments Seasense Switch Panel
  13. tons of them in this thread http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/25442-any-pelican-bass-raider-owners-out-there/
  14. As another jonboater, i think a 15-20lb anchor would be plenty sufficient. like was already said please anchor at the bow, specially on a smaller boat it doesnt take long for a 14ft boat to take on water. i fish for catfish alot so i anchor often when possible i like to anchor off bow and tie the stern off loosely to structure of some sort just to keep the wind from spinning the boat in circles while im trying to keep the lines tight. when anchoring keep in mind Wind, how choppy the water is and dont forget about the pleasure boaters who seem to be looking for a chance to swamp the little boats. dont want their wake coming over your stern, trust me on that. happend one of the first times out on the river bass boat decides to fly by 15 ft from me while im anchored at the edge of the river even though it was 75 yards wide at that spot . took on a good bit of water and had to start bailing, i now have a bilge pump
  15. well figured id introduce myself. joined a few years ago only posted a few times, did lots of Lurking and learned Alot here. spent last year fishing lots of catfish and panfish (why buy meat when you can Catch it ).. but im back again to learn some more gonna focus a "little" more this year on the almighty largemouth, gonna enter and basically give away my money in some jonboat tourneys aswell haha. i may not post much but need to learn some more techniques Looking forward to more lurking Thanks
  16. 3.5hours sounds descent using motor and fishfinder, the longest i ever had the lil boat out in water was maybe 3-4 hours at most.. and i had put my trucks battery in boat... needless to say when i got back to truck and put battery back in it wouldnt even turn over .. i rarely used the fish finder cause i just had no expereince with them.. and was a hassle to toy with. after a while i bought a dedicated battery for boat, just a cheap autozone battery and it did just fine. for a few hours, after a while of trollin around you could tell a difference in power/speed but it still got around fine on a single battery for me
  17. alright so last week i was finally putting line on my baitcaster after a year or so of spinning reels and my english coonhound got ahold of the rod tip with lockjaw.... it snapped..... yesterday doing some ultralight fishing i got snagged up and put to much stress on the pole as the canoe was being blown around like a trailer in a tornado... snapped that rod aswell.. I do most of my bass fishing with different sorts of soft plastics. ive still got my shakespere reel ultralight. so im looking for another rod for it.. what rod lenghts do you guys recommend in an ultra light setup? i think i had a 5'6.. not sure. this'll be temporary and used for bass/panfish/trout. this is a rod that stays in the truck for improptu fishing trips next question. im looking to get another quality spinning combo. havent made up my mind yet... bet away from fishing for a while and need to do some more research. dont need nothing fancy. once again this combo will be used lots with soft plastics maybe a little topwater. what length and action should i look for, so i can feel what my lures doing on the bottom of the lake? fished with a mitchell for a while but it felt kinda cheap. might still have the reel somewhere but im ready for something a little smoother... any help is appreciated
  18. guess i should post my old boat up .the first water craft i owned got it for free. horrible condition cracks all along the pontoons... so Lots and lots of fiberglass work on bottom but she floated good.. also got my hands on a free 54lb troller motor that came off the front of a large pontoon boat. (it was sitting in warehouse at my dads old work, boss said we could have it) got it rigged the best i could up front since it has a pedal.. had to do some customizing on the bracket so it would work on boat but it was sturdy and got that boat movin quick, free lowrance from warehouse aswell.. only had boat out on a few trips but it was fun. got low on money and sold it way to cheap... same story with my 2nd boat a 14ft jon boat that i restored, times is hard.. lost descent bit of money on that sell before i rigged up a battery/tacke box behind seat
  19. i suppose ill join in.. owned a pond prowler and a 14ft jon boat.. both projects that ended up being sold after they were water worthy.. sold pelican just because... got jon boat but my blazer i was driving at the time was such a POS i needed 2 people to go fishin cause you couldnt launch boat alone cause parking brakes were so bad. even after replacing all parts and cables and adjusting.. just to much of a hassle.. still waiting on money for a kayak.... but for now whenever i got a partner i can just drag this 15ft canoe out... does just fine luckily i enjoy paddling.... and yes the boat is horribly grungy in those pictures.. afterwards i scrubbed it clean... completley diff color now i just love being able to paddle into some ofthe places i have with this canoe. where no boats or pedestrians can get to.. creepin up on ducks and got 5-6ft from a huge vulure a few days ago that was nesting up on a rock ledge right off the water. pretty awesome stuff
  20. not really new here or to fishin.. lurked on here last year but after chaning emails and not remember passwords or user names i had to sign back up.. but im back again.. been fishing constanly past few weeks... ive yet to get more than a handful of strikes... it seems my curse is back... there was a time period where me and a buddy went a year + without a fish.. then the curse was broken and i outfished everybody and i was the master.. never caught many big bass but descent numbers for the areas i fished... and now its back... cant catch anything this year yet.. bass bream or cats.. did however catch 2 lil largies before moving up to north georgia, both caught on a rage tail thumper (my 2nd and 4th cast using this lure.. it may be a keeper if i can find more fish) ... but anyways i suppose ill throw up a fish picture or 2.... ive always had more success bank or dock fishing than in boats.. i had a pelican pond pontoon type with like a 54lb troller on it.. had a 14ft jon boat with a fish/depth finder now a canoe so ill be doing some more fishing.. but i cant seem to catch anything from a boat... a year or so back in a super small creek maybe 10ft wide and 1ft deep caught this fish as my First topwater bass. it to was on ragetail.. this one being the toad my ugly mug paddlin around Lake russel WMA here in north georgia..paddled 3miles that evening while girlfriend sat back and watched haha. no fish here either these days im doin all my fishing with simple ultralight spinning tackle. baitcaster is just a pain for me.. was good at it for a while but its not something you can put down for a while and come back to it... plus i could care less if im catching dinks all day long ill be just as happy catching anything. so ultra light is making it funner and here was the bass that broke the curse the first time a few years back and thats enough for now... hope to be spendin lots of time here now that its time to hit the water again
