Good call on the 7:1. I had that rod and paired it with a 7:1 curado E7. Worked well with buzzbaits, swim jigs, etc.

I bought into the whole Rapala Scatter Rap craze and feel like I got taken on that. I am not buying any these. Seems like a way to catch fisherman. I am sure it will catch some fish, but it is not going to revolutionize anything. Kind of seems different take on the old lures that were hollow clear tubes that you put a minnow in. They sure haven't stuck around so don't know why these will be any different.

Just outside of Indianapolis. Never remember a winter quite so cold. It is going to be a long few weeks once it gets warm before this ice melts. Hopefully it starts soon!!!

I don't think dropping or even tossing a fish in the water is going to hurt it in any way. I always "breath" any fish over 14", but the dinks get the toss back. I don't like when people don't treat the fish with respect i.e. drop kicking them, throwing them on the bank, etc., but c'mon it's a fish. What really drives me nuts is when people treat fish with more respect than the people around them.

Juvenile Probation Officer....unfortunately there is plenty of work for me.

I have an aluminum bass boat that is stored outside and everything comes out. There is always moisture that develops in the compartments so I don't want any of my stuff to get mold or corrosion because of that. Trolling motor is bolted down so it stays on all year long. Foot pedal for trolling motor and electronics all are taken off the boat when the boat hits the trailer at the boat ramp. Batteries stay on year round plugged into my on-board battery charger/tender.

Nice!! Congrats!! That is a good price for a foot controlled unit.

You guys have been awesome!! I have been sitting back just reading and trying to soak it all in. This has given me so much to think about and even try this summer. I thank you guys so much for your input and knowledge and am hungry to go out and fish this point over the next year. I am in the same camp as A-Jay. Any thing that moves fast. Swimjigs, spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, buzzbaits, and stanley ribbits are all my favorites. Senko fishing is about as fun as watching paint dry unless I am working it like a fluke or jerkbait.

The lake in question has a healthy population of bluegill, crappie, and gizzard shad. Not sure about threadfin shad.

Have you held both? I am assuming the Jadewood is a lighter rod by far than the Diesel?

No way....I will pump my fist, but yelling like Ike is irritating to me!! Especially when I feel sound can spook fish.

I have a Powell Diesel, but am looking to unload it because I want something lighter. I have a carrot stix that I bought on sale for $75 for my main jig rod and bought the Diesel because I wanted another jig rod. However, when I go from the light carrot stix to the diesel it is night and day. So I find myself not fishing with the Diesel very much at all. I know there are other rods in the $100 range, but am specifically asking about a comparison to these two rods. Don't want a Veritas b/c of the breakage and poor quality concerns, can't test a *** to see if I like the handle, and have heard good things about the Denali. Thanks for your help guys.

Get a kayak....there are a lot of guys that have put trolling motors on their kayaks and they are one of the easiest to transport. Plus you never have to worry about mechanical issues and can take them to lakes and rivers with no problems. Depending on the model their are some very stable yaks out their.

I would not do it. Mainly because every time I would take the boat out on a local lake I would be afraid of getting stopped by DNR and getting a ticket. I don't need the added anxiety. Peace of mind is a precious thing.

Swim jig for sure.....try to parallel the edges and they will show themselves. They can't resist it!!

I have used it for finding shore cover at my local lake. 2 years ago we were in extreme drought and my lake was down about 8-10 ft. It exposed a lot of the shoreline cover. I printed out pictures of submerged stumps, rocks, etc. Now that the lake is filled back in they are covered up and are good spots to hit when fish are shallow. I do know that they update the images periodically so if you find something you should print out the pic of it and mark it on your map.

Ok....here you go. You guys are awesome. Really appreciate all the input on this map!!! Just to clarify this point is on the main part of the lake and is probably in the widest portion of the lake. Can get a lot of boat traffic during the summer.

All the above suggestions are great. Read lots of articles, learn about the fish, if you can afford it hire a guide the first day out to help you locate the fish. He can also help show you what baits to use, then the next day you can go out and try and duplicate your previous success. One last thing that has not been mentioned. Learn to tie a good knot!! This is a crucial piece of knowledge that will save a lot of heart ache. If you have a smart phone download the app Knot Wars, or just learn to tie an improved clinch knot or palomar knot.
