10 Lb 8 Oz F1 Largemouth Bass Replica
Wow....those are probably the best replica pic's I have seen. Makes me really consider doing a replica instead of a regular mount. How much per inch was it? If you don't mind me asking.....

What Is The One Thing You Absolutely Love About Fishing?
1. Making memories with family and friends. 2. Enjoying the awesome creation that God created. 3. The hunt....like a treasure hunt every time I get out.

Wild Orange Carrot Stix
Bought my 7' MH at the same time for $80. Figured if it breaks no big deal. To be honest it has turned out to be the best rod I have in my arsenal. I try to stay around $100 for my rods and with that being the case the carrot stick is my favorite rod. I would not pay $150 for a new one if it did break with all the breakage problems that I have heard, but for $80 the price was right.

Kayak Fishing Crate
Nice work!! Really like that idea. I am looking at putting a top on mine by cutting a second crate, but like the idea of using the remaining sides of the cut crate to make slots. Looks really nice. How did you secure them?

Best <2500 Lb Rig
I hear you about high gas prices. Pulling it out of overdrive in the D3 position I estimate at about 16-17 mpg. When I make that trip it is from Indiana to Michigan so the majority of the time is spent on flat ground....so you may want to keep that in mind. What do you get with your suburban?

Best <2500 Lb Rig
I would not exceed, the boat and trailer alone, being half of what the the tow rating of the vehicle is. So I would look at something in the 1200-1400 lb range. By the time you get all your gear and people loaded in the vehicle you will be close to your maximum. Especially if you ever plan on doing a week long fishing trip. The maximum rating also includes the gear and occupants in the car as well. I think you are probably looking at a 14-16 ft aluminum boat with something up to 40-50 hp. I have a 17ft aluminum boat with a 70 hp Johnson on it and it weighs 1,670 lbs. You could always go up in weight if you wanted, but sometimes the bigger issue is can your vehicle stop all that weight that is behind you. I pull my boat with a 2004 Honda Odyssey that has a tow rating of 3500lbs. After taking this boat on several 9 hour trips I would not feel very comfortable with a heavier boat than what I have. Because of the stopping issue and when trying to get up steep hills it can really bog down sometimes. Don't get me wrong I could do it with a bigger boat if I wanted, but would it be comfortable....no. If you have any grain co-op's close to you you can always take the rig up to them and they will let you weigh it on their scales....at least that is what I did to find out the weight of my boat. They may charge you a few bucks, but normally they are pretty nice if you don't go during harvest season when they are really busy.

Something I Could Be Overlooking?
I agree with this. I always keep a short piece of a dowel rod with me that I wrap my line around and and then use it to pull and break the line. What kind of line were you using and what pound test? If it is mono and only like 8-10lb test I doubt you bent the spool, and it may be something else. However, if you are using 50 lb braid and you used the spool to break the line then my assumption would be you did some sort of damage. The fact that your line dug in to me is an indicator that you put a good amount of force on the spool and that is not a good thing.

Rod Guide Defect Or?
I have a powell that is like that as well. Nothing to worry about. That is the way they are supposed to be.

What Type Of Line?
This....braid on a spinning reel is great. Will never use any other type of line on a spinning reel.

To Buy Or Not To But
Get a kayak if you don't want any maintenance. You can set them up with fish finders, rod holders, anchors, etc. And you don't have to pay taxes or maintenance fees on them. I have both and each one has it's own place, but if you don't want to sink any more money in maintenance costs then a kayak would be the way to go.

How Much Time Do You Spend On This Site?
I am like Felix777 and A-jay.....I am in front of my computer all day so am constantly stopping and checking in....I too have very few people in my neck of the woods that enjoy fishing as much as I do. Glad I found this place. Now just wishing for a little more global warming as the ice is interfering with my fun!!!

Are Curados Really That Good?
Yes. They are that good. I am speaking of the E series. Buy one and fish with it. If you don't like it you can sell it on this forum for about the same amount of money that you paid for it. Looks like the new I series is back to the quality of the E series, but only time will tell that.

Trolling Motor Battery
This is what I run my trolling motor on and I am on my 5th or 6th year. Been a great battery and great price. I do have a charger/maintainer that I always have it hooked up to as soon as the boat is parked. Some sort of in-line fuse or circuit breaker is also a good idea.

What Are You Doing Until The Ice Thaws?
They look really nice. I really like the look of the widegap swim jigs. Work great with the berkley grass pig that I like to use as a trailer.

Opinions On A Swim Jig And Pitching Rod
I had a 7'2 MH/F diesel that I used for swim jigs. Actually just sold it because I did not like how it was somewhat tip heavy when paired with my curado e7. I was comparing it to my other rod which is a carrot stix so keep that in mind. I am replacing the diesel with a denali jadewood so we will see how that goes.

Need A Kayak For The Lady
My only suggestion is to get her one that you would like to fish in. If you buy her something that is cheap and it does not make her comfortable or feel safe then she will for sure never do it again. Are there any places in the area that you could rent from? This seems like a better option until you know that she will be going with you on a regular basis.
