  1. 94% of the time I fish from a yak.
  2. Cold water Bassing can be fun, depending on the water temps. Between 42 degrees to 55 degrees, cranks baits can be deadly and a great search bait. Chatter baits also work well, but sometimes they want small baits, so I carry the large chatter baits and the small trout series chatter baits, which can fill the live well. If you don't find any takers down size. 1/8 oz jig or smaller, with a small 2" to 3" Paddle tail or grub, fished SLOW!! 2" paddle tails have out fished everything in colder waters. Drop and Pop it, cast out and drop and pop it back to you. But the pop is just a lift of your rod tip, and follow the lure back to the bottom keeping contact with the bait, so you and feel the tiny tick/bite, then set the hook gently, or you'll pull the lure right out of their mouths. Most of my hook sets are a side sweep or lifting my tip till I feel the wait, most all the hook sets will be in the roof of the basses mouth. Heres a shot of a 4.3lb smallie caught in 45 degree waters doing my drop and pop 2" paddle on a 1/8 oz ball jig. Cold water cranking can also give you bonus fish! This big brown slammed my fat rap. Good luck
  3. I'm in Northern Ct near the Mass boarder. Shad, shiners, alewife, craws, frogs. I strickly fish artifical lures, soft plastics, cranks baits, jerks, jigs. Matching the forage is very important if you want to catch fish. Learn whats in your bodies of waters, along with weather patterns, locations, and stuctures down under, and your success will sky rocket. Put in the time, and you will be rewarded!!!
  4. I hear ya..........................I'm in Ct and lakes have been locked up since December!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait for Ice out!!! Theres some Big Smallies That I have a score to settle with!!! ;D
  5. Here's another shot of my yaks. I was fishing in the rain that why its looks wet in the yak!!! I Have a tarp for heavy rains. I din't resize one picture so you could see down inside the yak better.
  6. Hi, I'm 54 and have a Wave Walk kayak. I'm not a stock holder or employee of Wave Walk, Just One Happy customer!!!! I've owned many yaks, SIT, SOT, And I owned the Native 12. I loved my yaks, but due to cronic back pain, hip and leg pain, I could only sit in them for very short trips until screaming pain would send me to shore. That is till I found the wave walk yaks. 2 W300's, 2004, and 2006, the first models, and 3 W500's (2009) which were made by the owner on customer feedback, requests and ideas. Which resulted in the Most Stable Yak I've ever been in. Paddles easy, fast and stable. A Lean Mean fishing Machine or paddling/touring dream!! The W yaks are true stand up yaks, safe and stable, kind of like a canoe, yak, and pontoon boat all rolled into one. And I'm not very graceful either, I can fall down standing still!!! High and dry, tons of storage. Check out YouTube, OMGBASS, that's me, I have some videos up with me using the yak. The W300's have trolling motors attached, with foot controlled steering, for hands free steering and fishing. I use them when my pain issues get in the way of paddling I would rather paddle then us the motors. The W500's are a dream to paddle, I was going to add a trolling motor to one, but I really enjoy paddling it, so do my nephews. I loved my native yak, but I can get in no problems, but the only way I can get out was to roll myself, and get wet and fill the yak with some water. That was my problem with all the yaks, the Sit on tops weren't as bad to get out, but the pain was just as bad. The wave walk, I can walk in or out, turn around, lay down and take a nap, go over big logs, slide into places were launching yaks are impossible without getting wet. My longest trip has been 10 hours, getting out only for lunch or piddle breaks. But just remember this.........Try Before You buy any Yak! Rent one, borrow one, before you buy!!! They are all good, I just wanted to share some my experiences and the money I spent in the long road to finding the right yak for me. I spent way toooooooooooooooo much $$$$ to get to here, so If I can help someone from throwing away money to find out you hate this style or that style before you find your right fit, that would make me happy! I'm in Suffield Ct, and if you live near me you can try mine! Good luck in your search!!! Here is a couple of pictures of me and my Wave Walk W500 Yak.
  7. Here's what I've been using. It's a wavewalker. I'm now adding a trolling motor, which I'm gonna test today. And here's a picture of the trailer I updated this week so I don't have to put it on my roof top. Motor mount is on & getting ready for my test drive. The boat is 52lbs, the hulls have lots of storage, I can stand (I use Outriggers) you can stand with out them, but you better have good balance. I got rid of my yak because it's so hard to get in and out of. This boat is a very easy entry & exit. I love it!
  8. I have a Wave Walker yak/pontoon cross and love it. But I use outriggers to stabalize it better. I can use it without them, but if I'm fishing they are always on. I can carry tons of gear, stand, sit, add an anarondak chair, and soon it will have a trolling motor hooked up to it. Here's a picture of it. All the bungges you see are gone now. I attached everything with u-bolts and just slide my outriggers on. It wieghs 51 lbs, and I use a modified canoe cart if I gotta walk a from my car to a out of the way spot. And I can store more gear inside the pontoons. I've taken it on the CT River with all my gear + a 50 quart cooler for an over night cat fish tourney with no problem. Here's another view.
  9. Hey, all I can think is that you'd end up on the new's. Man & pontoon eaten by 8 foot gator story at 11. Dude, I think you at least need a jon boat. Be safe.

Since they are not on the beds yet. You gotta find where they are staging at. Here's what I would do, once I found a good spot that looks like they would spawn, I would set my self up and cast out to the deeper waters and slooooowly fish a c-rigged Big worm Or salamander back to you, and like it's been said, If you think you going slow enough, slow down a little more. The Bass should be staging out there in the deeper waters waiting for that temp change to bring them in for the spawn! ;D
  11. Congrats on the new boat. She's a beauty!
  12. My biggest Bass to date: 6.2 SMB caught on the CT River 5.8 LMB caught in a 3 acre pond
  13. Pound for Pound it's the SMB Hands down. Man if the LMB fought as hard as a smallie I think there would be a lot more broken hearts out there for the one's that would get away. This one gave me the fight of it's life!
  14. Let's see, if I compare you to me. I live and breath fishing, morning noon and night. I even dream about it, : sooooooooooo nope no problem. I think you need to fish more! ;D
  15. AWESOME. ;D Thanks for sharing.
  16. I have this problem all the time. It's hard to hold a fish, make a face that won't scare people and hold the camera with the free hand to snap the picture. So I bought a small dig. camera and use the timer now to take my pics. I made the mistake though when I bought this camera, I can't preview my shots, I should have gotten one with a viewer. Next one I'll spend a little more and get the view option.
  17. Wow....I just figured out how many days a year I fish for Bass. Don't be mad now, I was out of work do to an illness for 1 1/2yrs. bassmaster4879, I agree with the rest, that 2/0 is alot of the problem. 3/0 is th smallest I use for worms and most of my T-rigs. But when I use the Baby brush hogs and smaller baits, I will use a 2/0 texposer hooks, but only that style. I have used many other, but the texposer are extra sharp and the angle of it allows more hook ups.
  19. WOW!! I Love SMB!!! They are a awesome fish to fight!! I fish the CT River for them SMB + the rivers currant = Big Battles!! I lost a few but I've enjoyed every moment of it no matter what the out come. I use spinner baits, flukes, brush hogs, Jip&pig, salamanders, 5alive craws, yumdingers. My largest to date is 6.2lbs, which I landed in the spring. I don't have a pic of that one I ran out of film that day, I had landed 15 Smallies that day and ran out of film, (note to self always keep a freash roll in my bag).

C-rigged salamanders: Got me a whole bunch of these babies!! But I am addicted to the top water bite. I just can't get enough of it!!

  22. PapaRock, that sounds like Heaven to me!! I will stay where I'm at, plenty of good fishing all around here in CT. The Ct river is a great fisherey Pike, SMB, Crappie, Bowfins, Monster carp. Farmington River for trout, salmon LMB,crappie. And lots of lakes, small ponds that hold some of the best top water action you can find! And some great Ice fishing in the winter. ;D
  23. I don't need a barometer, I just go by how much my body is aching. :
