Electric Help Needed, Please!!
i just checked what a kill switch is, is the one that will stop the boat if you fall, right?? i didnt know they were used on bassboat, i had only seen them on jetskis... ill look for one and install it inline with the red wire, the one that feeds the switch, is that right?? and thanx Nitro!! i have been searching but couldnt find anything that i could use.... i found diagrams for some other boats, and i tried to use that info with some luck, but i still am not sure what am i missing....

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
hey!! sorry i hadnt been able to answer sooner, i was busy with other personal issues , which are solved now so i can continue the restoration.... anyways, in some spare time i have been making more progress, but until yesterday i was able to take some pics... here is the switch. it has 4 bolts, but only 3 are used... i believe the one with the red wire says BAT, the one with the green wire says IGN, the empty one says ACC, and the one in the middle i dont remember what it says, maybe Start, since i assumed, and later verified with a multimeter, this wire only has power when i turn the key to crank... now, in this picture there are 2 yellow wires marked with a red circle.... one of them is the one seen on the upper picture, the one on the switch.. the other one goes to the harness... with the multimeter, we managed to know that this other yellow wire is the one that feeds the starter... so, if i hook the two yellow wires together and turn the key, the starter will receive power... however, the 2 yellow wires have female connectors, so im not sure they were hooked directly... i think i can replace one of the connectors with a male, and match them, as i already know this will work.... however im not sure if im missing something.... and Traveler, the info i got from the plate on the motor reads: Model 85ETLR77S Serial number J4763396 the boat is a Kingfisher, i am assuming the motor and boat are from the same year, 1977 i get from the model number.... and no, my boat does not has a kill switch... what is the purpose of that?? unless it is someting very specialized, i think i can get something to work with what materials i can find locally.... thanx!!!

Jeep Wrangle And Bass Boat
next time, try shifting to 4Low and leave the shift on Reverse.... this is the strongest gear ratio, so it will help stop the jeep better than leaving in First and 2Hi....

Jeep Wrangle And Bass Boat
im another one who pulls his bass boat with his jeep.... but only for short trips, i have a lake 10 minutes from home, and another lake at 20.... the next closest lake is a 1.5 hour drive, so far i have not pulled the boat with the jeep that far, we use another truck.... as they said, pulling is not a problem, braking can be a little issue if you are not used to it, or in an emergency... on steep downhill roads i use motor break.... and on normal stops, i just begin braking sooner.... pulling is not a problem at all, mine is a 92 Wrangler with the same motor, but i upgraded both diffs to Dana 44 i took from a Wagonner.... im also running 35" Mud Terrains, so pulling the boat out of the water is not an issue, just engage 4Low, shift to first and you could just let go of the clutch and the jeep will pull the boat out without a problem... heres a pic....

Very Skinny Fish
thanx!! yesterday when i found it i got worried, but then i remembered the article about bass eating plastic worms which would clog their digestive system, and i assumed this fish had the same... unfortunately i didnt cut it open, and the fish was in open water with small current, i wouldnt be able to find it now to open it, but if i ever see another one like that, i will perform an autopsy to see if it eat something weird... and i have never caught a catfish on plastics, but my friend caught one with a firetiger crankbait....

Very Skinny Fish
thats right, it was a catfish... here is another pic... i didnt notice anything wrong with the gills, but i didnt check carefully either... by the way, several years ago they caught a 65 pound catfish out of this lake, it even was on the newspaper... here´s the other pic of yesterdays skinny fish...

Very Skinny Fish
yesterday afternoon i had abut 1.5 hours of spare time, so i went to the local lake... i had to leave as the sun was falling and the fih were beginning to jump, so unfortunately i didnt catch anything.... it was fun anyways... however, i found this fish floating near the shore... i pulled it closer with my rod, thinking it was dead, but when i grabbed it, it began moving again.... i took it out of the water for the pic and then released him, but im almost sure it is dead by now.... i think it was starving, since it seems to be really thin, comparing the size of the head to the body... i dont know is there is no food in there, or what happened.... now im thinking maybe it had something clogging its throat, as i saw an article in here that talked about bass eating plastic worms and then having their intestines obstructed until they starved to death.... what do you think??

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
d**n.... supposedly my friend labeled the wires when he disconnected them, but the labes are gone now.... and i cant find the schematic or diagram anywhere.... i guess i will try to make it work one more time, then ill wait for my friend to see if he remembers, and the third option will be to take it to an electric shop....

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
so IGN should always be live as long as the key is "open"? and that wire feeds what?? because right now the wire is not hooked to anything.... what im tinking is that it should be hooked to something outside the harness?? yesterday i couldnt take pics, hopefully today i will....

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
thanx, ill try that!! exactly how do you jump it?? touch it with the live (red) wire of the battery?? and, the switch is labeled, and one of the loose cables reads "ign" i believe... i think that one is the one that is live when the key is on the Starting position, but ill have to check....

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
thats right Tom, here is how i connected them... the red (white) cable goes to the solenoid´s bolt, and the black one to that bolt directly to the motor... however, it didnt work... if i put the red (white) one directly to the starter, it will work, so the starter is working..... i think ill have to take pics of the ignition switch, i am almost fully convinced the problem is there and not on the motor side of the cables....

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
thanx!! i will take better pics today... yes, i have a multimeter... the white wire shown on the pic, is actually red, it only has a white cover at the end... since the red cannot be seenon the pic, i said it was white because thats what can be seen... that wire i connected to the solenoid of the lower big bolt.... and the black wire i connected to a bolt on the motor, which looks clean so i assumed something must be there, as the rest of the bolts look like they have not been moved.... the ignition switch has several wires, i will also take a pic of those, since some of those are not hooked to anything.... for painting we just removed the ignition switch but i believe the wires came loose with the movement, since we didnt do that on purpose i dont know where they should be hooked...

My Restoration Thread
thanks Don!! today i did more progress on the boat... i didnt even went to work so i could begin earlier.... at 8 am i was already out looking for materials... i saw this picture once some time ago, and really liked it, since i used to have all the wires and cables just laying there.... here is the pic i saw on te Nitro website: tomorrow i will post the pic of my boat, since tonight its too dark to take good pictures..... besides fixing the cables, i also wired what i could.... i have the livewells ready, the pumps and the plumbing are done on both of them... the fuel pump is also ready, and i removed and cleaned the gas tank, im thinking about relocating the tank to put the filler hose on the side of the boat instead of right on the middle... after that, i worked a little more on the storage space, specally on the rod storage... i got room for 5 rods. for this, i bought 5 pieces of 1 1/2 cable duct, and closed them with a PVC endcap crazyglued to the end.... i got this picture when there was still some light left.... on the right 2 spaces i can fit 7 feet rods, the other 3 are 6´8" max. now for the bad part.... i couldnt get the starter to run... i dont know what am i missing, but i tried all afternoon and couldnt get it to work... i believe the problem is on the ignition, since im pretty sure i have the wiring properly hooked on the motor (there are only 2 cables)... but i couldnt do it.... and another bad thing, i cant find the steering wheel!! i looked everywhere, twice at least, the closets, the garage, and i cannot find it... i was thinking about getting another one anyways, but i think with the steering wheel there is a base or something to cover these bolts: so, thats the progress for today... tomorrow i will get some better pics (not cellphone like today) and upload the progress.... i dont know what to do tomorrow, i guess i will try to finish the storage space and maybe this week carpet the boat.... oh, more progres, i gave my grandma the seats and the materials for her to do the upholstery.... =)

the 2 wires missing are the black one in my hand and the white one behind, with a plastic cover... both of them have eyes, so they must be connected to bolts....

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
hey!! about a month ago we removed the motor of our boat to paint it... today i am reconnecting everything again... but i am having a problem... when we removed it, i was in charge of the mechanical, and my friend, of the electrical part.. but now im alone, so i have to connect everything... the mechinical is all done, and half the electrical... the bilge pump works, livewell pump as well, and the electric choke and fuel pump also.... however, the starter is not working.... i disconnected the spark plugs, and tried turning the key, but the starter wont turn... so, there are 3 cables that go in the motor, these 2, and another one with a male/female plug which is already connected.... my question is, where should i connect these two?? and if they are properly connected, where is the problem? maybe in the ignition???

My Restoration Thread
more progress!! yesterday night i wrapped the transom and installed the motor... i used a gray wrap, and on that i will put a couple of stickers or something, i havent decided yet.... and as you can see, we have not painted the motor yet....but my friend, the painter, is out of the city for 10 or 12 days, and i dont want to wait that long.... when he comes back we will remove the motor, paint, and reinstall.... here it is... the wrap was $3 USD for enought material to cover the transom and a little spare.... i also have about 95% of the storage space wood frame completed but i dont have pics of it right now.... tonight i will begin wiring everything back again, and tomorrow i hope to finish wiring and take the boat for a test ride on the local lake... if it works, tomorrow night ill continue on the storage space, and sunday morning i get to go fishing....hopefully....

My Restoration Thread
oh no i havent stopped!! in fact i have been working so hard i havent been able to upload pics... last night i completed 90% of the frame for the storage space, ill upload pics today (hopefully).... and the plan for today is to wrap the rear of the boat, re-install the motor, and if time allows, wire everything back in place.... i plan on working all these evenings, and all saturday, and hopefully be fishing by sunday morning.... i know the outside will not be painted yet, but i think by sunday i may be able to have every functional part of the boat ready... painting will have to wait, since my friend is the one who paints and he will be out of town for 10 days starting tomorrow.... but hopefully by when he comes here i will have everything ready.... and yes, a mexican fishing boat would not be complete without a burrito storage space.... =)

thanx!! i like that neon green... however, i already have the material to upholster the seats, i have 3 different shades of gray, and the carpet will also be gray... would the green look good if there is no green inside the boat??

My Restoration Thread
here, did you mean paint the bat wing, or wrap the bat wing?? because at first i understood you were suggesting to wrap it, but now i think maybe you are saying to paint it??
-
My Restoration Thread
i am wanting to paint the part marked in red, as well as the keel: and wrap the rest...

My Restoration Thread
thanx!! thats more or less what we had thought about in the first place, but, wont the wrap tear down on the first outing?? here in mexico we dont have boat docks and many lakes dont even have ramps, we have to load/unload on a shallow shore, so the boats take a lot of abuse... thats why we decided against wraps, we thought they wouldnt last long...
