  1. here is the pic that shows the hull bottom...
  2. hey. the boat is a kingfisher, 17´ i believe, they say its from 1981 but the motor plate is from 1977 so i think the boat is also from that year... the unit performs the same (or should i say, does not works) when moving fast, slow, or completely stopped.... and, i just requested my friend the picture, when he gets home he will send it to me...
  3. ok here are the pics:
  4. thanx!! ill see if i can take them today because the boat is at my friend´s house... we are planning a 2 day fishing trip for this weekend, so i would like to have it ready by then...
  5. hey. i got a humminbird 570 fish finder, without DI. i got it installed on saturday, and used it for the first time on sunday. it read the temperature and depth, but i couldnt get any more information than that. it didnt show the bottom profile, structure, fish, anythin, just a white line with occasional black vertical lines.... we realized when we are at full speed, the fishfinder is almost out of the water... however, the finder is already low on the transom, it actually hangs a little under the transom, maybe half transducer is below.... so, i will move it lower to prevent it from coming out of the water.... but besides that what could the problem be?? maybe the angle is not set correctly?? by the way, i had to route the transducer cable parallel to some electrical cables, but tried to separate them, and didnt use the same ties, in order to prevent a possible interference. i also let the transducer cable hang loose while the electrical cables are tight, so there is not much contact between them... i dont know if this works or not, but thought it couldnt hurt.... thanx!
  6. no i dont have it, i will look for it...
  7. thanx Jig!! today i tried to place an order from marineengine.com for an impeller, some cleats, a steering wheel, some flush pulls for my locker lids, and some other parts... the order total was $102, and shipping was $49... of course i didnt place it... i placed the order for the impeller, O ring, and oil seals from boats.net, and the total came to $40 shipped.... does anyone buys from marineengines?? supposedly they had 9.95 shipping on items less than 20 pounds, i dont think my order was more than that....
  8. thanx!! yesterday i pulled the sendin unit on the fuel tank, it was inside the tank, i dont know how it fell there... i will do the multimeter test tomorrow to see if it works... now for the tachometer, how do i know which wire is the tach signal?? i read the link, it looks very easy, i just need to know which is the wire that sends the signal, and get an appropriate gauge that can interpret it, right??
  9. thanx Robert!! well, the tank has a sending unit, but i dont know if it is working.... and, are all the units compatible with the gauges?? also, i would like to have both speedometer and tachometer.... but i dont know how to install any of those... you mention the tachometer is easier to install... how do you do it?? i also need to get a "sending unit" and a gauge, right?? can you recommend one?? thank you!
  10. thank you!! heres a question.... where would you put an stereo and speakers?? we have been thinking about putting the stereo on top of the console, and making a console extension with fiberglass... but nothing is decided yet....
  11. well, i have not looked at something like that in my motor, but i will check.... hopefully today we will be able to take her to the lake, and then i will check if it starts on the Forward position...
  12. this weekend we did more progress... we actually have the boat ready to go fishing tomorrow.. so, now much description here, just pics... these are all the cables we removed from the boat.... now here is the motor: and finally the boat, al cleaned and ready... yesterday i installed the fishfinder i got from a member in here: whas do you think?? as you can see, there are still some things missing... we need to put the lights on... we also need to install the switches on the fron panel... recarpet the interior of the original rod locker... upholster the seats (a friend is doing the work, hopefully we will have them by mid week).... and after this we need to finish the additional rod locker and storage space..... so there is still some work to be done, but it will have to wait, because tomorrow we are going fishing!!
  13. so the one i posted from basspro does not includes all the system??
  14. hey.... as some of you know, i am restoring a bassboat.... it was abandoned in a fishing town, and we are fixing it little by little. right now, the 85HP motor works, the trolling motor works, and from the 4 switches on the console, i wired 2 of them... 1 is for the bilge pump, 1 to feed the livewells, and thats all.... so, i know how to wire the lights and switches, but i would like to get the gauges as well.... the console has 5 spaces for gauges, but i think i would only use 2, for speed and fuel level.... the boat originally had a trim system, so 2 of the 5 spaces were for the trim, one for the switch and the other one for the gauge that measured the angle.... then, it also had a depth finder, which took another space.... and a fuel level and speedmeter took the other 2.... since none of the gauges work anymore, i already removed them, and i am looking to get at least those 2... i dont know what else could i need.... my motor does not have temp sensors or something like that.... so, does anyone knows where can i get the 2 main gauges?? i tried Academy but couldnt find them... and i found this on basspro but i dont know if they are just the gauge or actually all the system, which is what i need: http://www.basspro.com/Faria-Chesapeake-Series-Fuel-Gauge/product/90990/150221 thanx!!
  15. thanx!! i will check if the switch is in the linkage somewhere, but i really doubt it, i have already replaced the lower unit, and to do so, i had to remove the links, and i didnt see any wires around it... hopefuly tomorrow i will be able to take her to the water, and i will check if it can be started in gear...
  16. today we did more progress.... at first, the plan for today was to remove the upholstery of the seats, to make the wooden parts and begin the upholstery work tomorrow... we are going to do 2 of them, and have the other 2 done by a shop... my grandmother was going to do them but the fabric was too heavy for her machine... anyways, while my friend removed the upholstery of one, i began wiring an automatic switch on the bilge pump... it is one like this: i wired it on a 3 position switch, automatic on one position, OFF on the middle, and ON on the other position.... however, i noticed that while on Auto, the switch sometimes would be on the OFF position but the pump was on... it seems the internal moving parts are getting stuck... this i didnt like, maybe i will change the switch sometime soon.... anyways, after i finished, i noticed a loose wire below the console... i followed it and it was loose on the other end also.... so we removed it... one thing let to another, and when i noticed, 2 hours of cable pulling had passed and we had removed almost all the wiring from the boat... so right now there is only the harness going to the starter switch, the harness going to the panel which has only 4 switches, and thats all... i took a picture of all the wiring we removed, i will post it later... there were lots of wires hooked only to one end... the lights didnt work anyways, and neither did the front switch panel, besides the trolling motor.... so maybe tomorrow we will wire the trolling motor again, and then we will build a harness for the lights, switches, and navigation lights... this was a task we didnt want to do, because it was a real mess, but somehow we began without noticing, and now, the hard work is done, rewiring again will be easy....
  17. thanx Traveler!!! hopefully this saturday we will be able to go and annoy some fish....
  18. well, there is no switch going to the shifts, so, even though i have not tried it, im pretty sure it would start in Forward or Reverse.... however it is not as easy as you say, technically it can start, but since it would be moving the propeller with the Starter, it would be hard and maybe it doesnt start... pretty much like starting my jeep without stepping on the clutch, it could be done, but its hard for the starter.... i could wire a POKA-YOKE, where i had to push another button to start it, this way it could be like a reminder.... other than that, i dont know what else i could do besides getting another shifting unit ot however its called....
  19. and it is running again!!! after reading all of this posts and looking at the motor once again, i did what i knew worked... i split the yellow wires and hooked them together... i couldnt find any switch, relay or anything where both of them could go, but i KNEW that if if i got current on one of the yellow wires, the starter would get energy, and i also knew when i turned the key energy would "come out" of the other yello wire.... so i just hooked them together, put some gasoline on the tank, hooked one of those devices you put on the garden hose.... and after 2 key turns, the motor started... i turned it off, and started it again at the first turn, without using the choke.... so, thanx for your help!!! i couldnt see what i was missing, but now it starts.... as Traveler said, this boat has been reworked by a "boat mechanic" who could "fix" the boat with whatever was available... so there is no way of knowing what he did.... however, now it is working properly.... hopefully i will put it in the water this weekend and do some fishing.... =)
  20. i dont know how much time it took for me to say this, maybe 2 months since i started, but i feel really proud to finally announce.... SHE IS ALIVE!!!! but first, a little update... this past weekend i had to go to El Paso, so i left the boat with my friend for him to work on it a bit... when i came back, i was really surprised.... he had painted ALL the underside of the boat, there is not one spot missing paint.... i dont know how he did it, but he did... he painted the motor as well... and, he had replaced all the original carpet... we still need to trim the edges and some minor details, but the boat looks great... today i took some pics with my phone, so they are not of very good quality, but here is one to give an idea... i will post more hopefully this weekend.... maybe one month ago, i decided to replace all the fuel lines, im not sure if i mentioned it at that time... anyways, while at it, i installed this as well since it was missing and the fuel hose was directly from the fuel pump to the carbs... also, while replacing the fuel lines, i decided to clean the carbs, so i completely took them apart, cleaned them, and put them back together.... last time i used the boat, it was taking some time to start, i dont know if it was because the weather was really cold, but it was having problems.... so, this weekend while at EP i went to Academy and bought me this: and today we finally had time to try it.... so we connected the fuel lines, got some fuel, and wired the ignition switch.... if you saw the post titled Electric Help needed, you will see i was also having problems with that switch, but we figured them out last week.... anyways, i pushed the Choke button, cranked the engine, and the motor turned on at the second try.... i let it run for about 5 seconds, but since no water was coming out of the motor, i turned it off.... i tried turning it on again, this time without the choke, and it turned on as fast as a new car.... again i turned it off quickly, since therw as no water coming out... so, i have some questions.... shoud it Pee right away?? or would it have peed eventually if i had left it running for more time??? hopefully this weekend we will try it at the lake, but i would like to know how the device works in case we need to work on the boat at home.... so we still have some work missing, we need to finish the storage spaces, upholster the seats, install flush pedestal bases, replace the steering wheel, install the fishfinder, install the stereo and speakers, reinstall the trolling motor, replace lower unit fluid.... so this is not over yet, but it is fishable now!!!
  21. thanx!! well, since the throttle has no wiring attached to it, i guess we dont have a "neutral switch"... so, yes, i think we will just connect the 2 yellow cables together and let it be.... later on, when we have the boat up and running again, and hopefully after catching a few fish out of it, i will take the task of removing all the wiring and rewire everything new... when that happens i will be asking for a lot of help, the diagrams provided will give us an idea, but im sure more questions will arise at that time... fortunately there are a lot of people that have been helping me, i hope they have the same good will in a couple of months!!!
  22. thanx for the diagrams!! what do you mean by a "neutral Switch" ??? i will check the color coding, but i guess it wont be very helpful.... as i mentioned earlier somewhere, this boat was "fixed" before, by a boat mechanic in a small fishing town where spare parts were not available... so, you can see a red cable here, and trace it with the multimeter and find out the other end is blue, as if the mechanic didnt have a cable long enough and he had to use 2 cables of different color.... on the near future we plan on rewiring everythin, specially since any of the markers work, we already removed them from the console.... so we want to remove all the useless wiring, and make clean and safe electrical installation.... but that will have to wait.... we have to first make the motor run as it was before, and once we know everything is hooked correctly, we can begin removing useless wires and replacing old ones...
  23. thanx Traveler for your search!! i had the same problem though, it seems this boat is not as popular so there is not much info about it.... i didnt remove the harness completely... in fact, i just removed the key switch from the console, but i tried to not unhook any wire... apparently at one time something got unhooked by itself... and no, there are no wires going into the throttle control.... this control is very old it is still the one that has 2 shifting levers, one for Forward/Revers, and the other one for the speed.... but no wires come in and out of it... and Rhino, there is a separate button to activate the choke... and it is working properly.... and no, no Beeping sound on this boat... thanx!!
  24. this is the info on the data plate i found on the motor: Model: 85ETLR77S Serial number: J4763396 its an 85HP Johnson... based on that info, i saw somewhere that it was 85HP (first 2 numbers of Model) and from 1977 (last 2 numbers)... i think the S is for Short shaft or something like that i remember reading once... the rest of the letters, i dont remember... and no, i have not wired a car yet hahaha... and OK, ill look for one and wire to the IGN...
