Sunbaking Crankbaits
thanx! unfortunately its a very slow process, ill take a pic today and will be updating every week to see the progress....

Sunbaking Crankbaits
on the article it mentions about a possible damage to the material, weakening, expanding, softening... thats why i used an old crankbait i had laying around.... right now the temperature here is getting colder, so i think even ig its in direct sunlight i wont be really hot... i have several really bright firetigers, and i like that color, but i thought fading one would make for a nice addition... it it works i may even purchase some duplicates of the ones i already have and fade them to see if i notice a difference in the number of strikes VS the same crank in original bright color...

Sunbaking Crankbaits
hey. has anybody tried this?? blog.another site.com/blog/bid/80074/How-to-Sun-Bake-Your-Crankbaits-for-Improved-Color i just got an old firetiger crankbait to try it... i covered the red belly with black electrical tape, and also put a little strip on each side, and hang it outside where it will get sun from every angle... i plan on leaving it there about a month to see how the color is fading.... i think the sunbaked crank in the link looks more real than the bright chartreuse new one, i know chartresuse is a good color but since i have several firetiger cranks, i thought about trying this to see what i can get... what do you think??

Teaching Someone To Fish- Do You Start Them With Live Bait?
i have a couple of Zenco 33 reels for this purpose.... but, i changed the line to 15 lb mono, since i dont know why, my GF and friend always manage to hook weeds or get stuck in the rocks, and the 10 lb that came with the reels breaks easily... after a couple lost spinnerbaits and cranks, i changed the line...

Teaching Someone To Fish- Do You Start Them With Live Bait?
i had to teach myself how to fish... i began with spinnerbaits and cranks, as i assumed those were the easiest lures to catch a fish on, basically just cast them to visible cover, then reel them in... the fish basically hook themselves... now i use several retrieves, stops, pauses, twitches, etc... but at the biginning i would just throw and reel, and i would catch fish... now im progressing to soft plastics and really loving it.... hopefully by next year i will be able to fish a jig....

"best Hookset Ever!!"
i dont know if he was casting a 5 oz lure or what happened... it looked like a big white spinnerbait, but im not sure... all i saw was he trying to cast, then the bait coming back at him, the handle of the rod hitting the windshield, then he dropping the rod to the water.... he immediately removed his life vest, i thought he was going to dive behind the rod... but no, he just sat on the side of the boat with a sad face for a while...

Revo S Sideplate Removal
hahaha, i know, its the sound of power.... after the lube my reel is really quiet... if you call that "noisy", i dont know what a quiet reel is for you... before the cleaning, it was noisy, not loud but disturbing, not a noise i would want to come out of a new reel... but now after cleaning, its very quiet and smooth...

"best Hookset Ever!!"
yesterday i saw a guy did something like that... he was on the front of this family boat (not bassboat) using a spinning reel... as we drifted behind him, he turned and asked how many fish we got... then, he took aim and swing his arm to cast the bait... but i think he forgot to open the bail or something, because the line didnt strip off the reel... instead, it took him off balance, and in his attemp not to fall, he hit the windshield with his rod and let go off the rod... he then proceeded to rig a line with big hooks and sinkers and try to fish for his rod.... there was some current and my FF marked 25 feet deep, so i doubt he had any luck....

Revo S Sideplate Removal
congrats!! i fished yesterday for about 5 hours, in the morning, the local lake was really crowded, and at the ramp i spoke to a couple fishermen who said they didnt catch a single fish... neither did we... hopefully in a couple of weeks ill catch something to put this reel to the real test... so far i really like it, as someone mentioned earlier, $130 well spent....

Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx, ill do as you mention before my next trip.. yesterday i was slinging weightless 5" strike king Ochos and got a really good distance, and i had no backlashes at all, not even while adjusting the cent brakes. im really liking this reel. unfortunately i have not gotten a fish with it yet...

Revo S Sideplate Removal
yesterday i had about 1 hour of spare time so i went to the lake to test my Revo S... i noticed it was loud during the cast, and also made some noise during the retireve... so i came back home and cleaned the spool bearings. i removed them, and put them in a glass with acetone... then i flushed them with water, and dried them with a hair dried... then i reinstalled them, and put just one drop of oil on each one.... today i went again to test the reel, and it is much smoother now, much more quiet, and it casts great.... i was casting weightless senkos easily with this reel.... i also cleaned the gold ring since it had come kind of grease in it, i guess ill add a drop of oil to it too to prevent damage to the brake pins as TNbassin says....

Weightless Senko Rod
thanx!! im trying to decide which rod of the ones i already have would be best suited for this application.... after discarding my crankbait rod, i was between a M/M, or MH/F... i see some of you prefer M power while others prefer MH... however, most of you prefer at least F tip, if not XF.... so i guess the MH/F veritas i bought for spinnerbaits will double as a weightless senko rod.... now, can i also throw a spinnerbait on the M/M rod?? because i like having a spinnerbait always tied on.... so if the main spinnerbait rod is being used for another thing, i would like to tie the spinnerbait to the other rod, just in case....

Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx, thats what i was planning on doing, but i think ill use only the spring ones first and then decide how i like it... its good to know i can mix and match without a problem...
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
i already spent them last week =) it makes a good match for my Veritas rod... now if only i could get out of work early today and head to the lake....
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx!! ill do as you say, and see what happens.... im not new to baitcasters, only to centrifugal brakes... i believed i had to set them up evenly...
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx!! ill try that hopefully tomorrow, i heard good things about this reel, i hope i dont get disappointed...
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
well, my thumb is also mid-educated, and sometimes missbehaves.... so i guess i will use a couple of brakes at the beginning and ill see how i like it like that, and then adjust accordingly....
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
great info, thanx!! but... since im going to use this reel 90% of the time for spinnerbaits, and i dont pitch them, im not going to use the pitch pins... now, how do i adjust the spring pins?? if i want to balance the brake using only those 3 pins, theres only 2 positions, either all ON or all OFF... if i use the 6 pins i can use 2 pins (one each), 4 pins (2 each) 6 pins (all), or alternate 3 on 3 off... can i use only one spring pin and leave the other 5 disengaged??
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx!! i didnt notice you could disengage the spring pins pushing them to the center, i thought i could only set the pitch ones... so, i pushed 1 pitch pin to the outside, leaving the other 2 disengaged, and pushed 2 spring pins to the center, leaving the one opposed to the engaged pitch pin also engaged... i think this must be a good starting point, hopefully i dont have to adjust much, i dont like taking apart the reel in the boat...
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx!! i just did it, i had to pull the screw a little bit... i was also trying to twist the plate away from me, as in my other reels.... now, how do you adjust the brakes?? it has 6 pins... 3 of them say PITCH and 3 say nothing... and, i can only set the ones labeled as pitch, the other ones have a spring, so if i move them upwards, they come back to their original position... the labeled ones can be set outside and they remain at that position.... so, i read somewhere the pins had to be set evenly... that would make this reel only a 2 position reel, with the 3 pins ON and with the 3 pins OFF, as i cant set them in pairs.... this doesnt makes much sense, so, what am i missing??
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
thanx. i backed out the screw, but i cant move the sideplate and im afraid of applying too much force and damaging something... should i push the button also?? or just move the sideplate??
-
Revo S Sideplate Removal
hey... i got my new Revo s today.... i may try it out tomorrow, but, i cant figure out how to remove the sideplate to adjust the brake...how do you do it?? i read about a thumb screw, i think its the one on top that can be loosened with the fingers... but, i unscrewed it (leaving it in place) and yet i couldnt remove the sideplate... it has a button, which i dont seem to be able to push... should i push harder?? or how do you do it? thanx!

Biggest Surprise/disappointment
surprise: gary yamamoto senko... i had always avoided them, couldnt believe how a "worm" without a tail could have any action at all.... then i read a lot about them, and a friend gave me some he got i dont know where... i began catching fish with them when the rest of my plastic baits were not working... now i made it a habit that every time i have to purchase something fishing related, i add to the cart at least 2 packs of gary yamamoto senkos... dissapointment: gary yamamoto senkos... they last exactly ONE fish, maybe even less.... i think i have yet to reuse one of them after catching a bass.... sometimes after a couple of short strikes, the bait will break at mid flight during the cast.... and they are not so cheap either as to keep replacing them...

Weightless Senko Rod
hey. what power and action is best for casting weightles senkos and flukes with a baitcaster?? also how should the reel be setup to avoid birds nests?? thanx!
