  1. thank you!! i has thinking i was a bit under-gunned for a 300 yard shot... i hope we get a shot, and i hope it is closer than 300 yards, but due to the terrain, im not sure what we will encounter... i hope to report back on sunday with a pic.... hopefully...
  2. hey. i may be hunting for aoudad soon, and i have a question. i know this is a tough animal, so, whats the farthest shot i can attempt with a .308 to insure a quick and humane kill?? im not talking about personal skills, the question is oriented at the bullets energy. i feel comfortable taking shots at 300 yards when deer hunting, but i have never shot an aoudad before, and this is open range, we will be spot and stalking but im not sure we will be able to get much closer than about 200 yards...
  3. when i began fishing, i almost quit rock climbing... i trained during the week, but on weekends i would head to the lake... now im trying to combine both of them... oh, and im selling my jeep, i just dont wheel anymore, fishing is a lot more fun...
  4. only 2 goals for me: 1) break my PB (5 pounds and a half from last year) 2) begin using jigs (i began fishing with cranks, then used sipnnerbaits, now i have been catching them on worms, so i think the next logical progression would be to tie on a jig)
  5. yes, thanx traveler!!! everything is working now, im not finished with the restoration yet, but the season ended last weekend so now i have more working time for the next 4 months.... as it is right not everthing works great, it starts faster than my car, but it still has a lot of things to do... and regarding the pic, what happened to him or the boat?? if the boat brakes can he get another one an dkeep fishing??
  6. sorry if its a repost, i looked for it but couldnt find it... i found the attached pic on facebook, anybody knows the story behind it??
  7. and how can someone know the temperture ad the depth the bass are spawning?? i have a fshfinder, and it reads a temperature, but, is it surface temp, mid water temp, bottom temp, average, or how can i know that temp corresponds to which depth??
  8. hahahahahhha i bet its a great boat... in spanish that is one word used to refer to the thingy, and it is commonly used to refer to great things.... for example if i say "eres una reata pescando" (you are a reata fishing) means you are very good at fishing... so i bet your reata boat is a great boat...
  9. thank you!!
  10. hey. i have a question regarding hook size. actually, 2 questions... for 5-6" senkos and worms, which hook size do you use?? and, which is bigger, the 4/0, ot 5/0?? when i bought my equipment, i asked a friend to help me since i didnt know what to get... so, he got me 3 packs of hooks, and he told me they were 4/0, 5/0 and 6/0, but i dont know which is which.... i have been using the smaller of the 3 almost exclusively for my 5# and 6" worms, i recently got some 7" and use the medium sized hooks i have.. but im not sure about the size they are.... im thinking this is something like the wire gauge, a 12 ga is bigger than a 18 ga, however, after they reach 0, a 2/0 is smaller than a 3/0.... is that right?? i am needing some more of the smaller size, so i want to know if they are 4/0, and if they are the most appropriate for 5-6" worms and senkos.
  11. PCP.... the Hammerli Pneuma ELite 10 has a magazine that holds 10 rounds i believe.... and it can be had for $300 in pyramidair right now... in 4.5 though... or, the Benjamin Discovery, goes for $400 including the hand pump, and, even when it doesnt has a magazine, you just pull the bolt (as in a bolt action gun), insert the pellet, and are ready to shoot...
  12. for about $20 or $25 i bought a scale that measured to about 2/16 of a gram.... 2 grains... i used that for building my arrows when i was into archery, but for fishing, i wouldnt worry about it...
  13. if legal in your state, spot lightning is also a lot of fun.... we drive in my jeep, 2 friends with rifles, one with the spotlight, and i drive and have another rifle just in case.... we could end up with 25-30 rabbits in about 3 hours.... sometimes to make it more fun we just use air guns, or if the rabbit are holding very far, we bring the 22 mag...
  14. i use my Remington Summit in 5.5 to shoot hare and rabbits when using the .22 becomes too easy.... it would kill a tree rat without a problem, and can be had at walmart for about $180 shipped... and its very easy to ****... for $400 you can get a Benjamin Discovery PCP with handpump, just add a good scope and you would have enough power for some long range shooting.... the hand pump may not be suitable for your father though...
  15. ok, thank you!! ill deffinitely try that.. i have never tried vertical fishing, seems like a little weird in my mind, same as wacky rigged worms, but if that is what works, im going to try it...
  16. thanx for the tip!! i think i have a couple of them in my old tackle box, i have never used them, they seem too light and small... how do you fish them?? vertically?? or cast, let it sink and retrieve?? im not sure i will be able to cast it with baitcasting gear, and i dont have a spinning setup...
  17. thank you!! i will try those techniques next time i head to the lake... at first we tried finding fish in structure at the right depth, but the lake has only this ridge that is 30 feet deep, ad the rest of the lake is really shallow... so, when the fish are deep, we know all of them are in the same ridge... this is a very small lake so there are not a lot of options to look for them.. so ill see if next time a drop shot or jerkbait can get me some fish... some people know have caught a couple using jigs, but not much either... for most of us, if we go there and get 2 or 3 fish in a morning, its an excellent day...
  18. thank you!! i understand how a jerkbait works, i have read about it but never tried it, i have a couple of them that have never been in the water, ill try them next time i go there... now, could you elaborate on swimming a grub?? how do you do it to keep in the strike zone?? and regarding drop shot... do you place right on top of the fish and just let the bait fall vertical ?? and the A-rig is allowed i believe (im in Mexico, i dont even think there´s a regulation about it)... i will get me one next time i go shopping and give it a try... thank you....
  19. how do you catch fish that are 15-20 feet deep, in 30 feet of water?? 2 weeks ago i was at a lake that has lots of areas which are 20-22 feet deep... the fish were deep, between 15 and 20 feet, so, i used a Texas rigged senko or worm, hopping it on the bottom, and catched a lot of them, most of them being in the 3.5 pound or better... i just drifted with the boat, and when the fishfinder showed what looks to me as a school of fish, we would stop, and within 10 minutes we would catch at least a couple of fish... after 10 or 15 minutes without a strike, we moved to a different place.... we caught fish in each and every place we stopped, some of them we already knew hold fish, some of them we had never fished before, but relied on the fishfinder and gave them a try.... now, yesterday i went to a local lake 10 miles from home... again, the fish were at 15.20 feet according to the fishfinder... however, this time the water was 30 feet deep, so if we left the worm to go all the way to the bottom, we were 10 feet below the fish... the water was 57-58 throughout all the lake... we didnt have a single strike in 4 hours... so, how should we fish this situation?? this lake in particular has always been though, it desnt has a lot of fish, has heavy fishing pressure, and its getting really small and dry... i would like to learn how to fish it, since its so close to my home.... BTW the only deep placed we near a cliff... the middle of the lake is about 30 feet also, and the rest of the shores are about 8-10 feet... we saw about 4 other boats at the ramp, and neither had caught a single fish...
  20. me!! i have been fishing for only 2 years (this and last)... last year i caught one a bit over 5 pounds, and 20" long and this year, on the same lake, and less than 100 yards away from the spot i caught that one, i caught this one, 5.5 pounds, 21" i know these are small fish compared to most of the ones we will probably see in this thread, but so far thats my personal best... hopefully next year i will be able to get me a bigger one... im heading down to that lake again in 2 weeks, maybe i will be able to top the 5.5#... 2 weeks ago we caught a lot of fish there, none of them was bigger than 5 pounds, but 80% of the fish were 3.5 pound or best, with 3 or 4 reaching the 20" mark... so who knows, maybe we will get lucky on our last trip of the year...
  21. i didnt know that, thanx...
  22. thanx!! i went today to look at a 2003, XE, crew cab 4x4... it has 116000 miles, and the owner wants the equivalent to $9200 ... the truck is extra clean, it has a tiny scratch in the tailgate, and thats all, interiors are as new, exterior also... it will need new tires soon... http://www.autotrader.com.mx/pictures/NetPics/20121129chi1515net.jpgbig im not sure if i should get this one or wait for another one... i doubt i will find one as clean as this one, but, im not sure about the long bed, i like the looks of a short bed better, and, even when the short bed has a limited space, i can always put the gear in the boat... about the timing belt, i heard its required to replace it after 100,000 miles or so... so thats probably one thing i would do right after getting this or any other truck...
  23. i dont know... i plan on updating in a couple of years to a bigger boat, at least 18´, and i wouldnt want my tow rig to be a limitation on the boat selection..
  24. thank you!! i had forgotten about this because i got involved in sme other things... but i think ill have to try this now the weather is getting colder every day... BTW i couldnt try my tied spinnerbaits.. i went fishing but all they wanted were senkos... i tried to catch one with a spinnerbait, but no luck... my new spinnerbait rod is still a virgin after 3 trips =S
  25. thanx!! now i just have to find one... im not set on Frontier, but its the 1st choice right now... if not i think ill end up getting a Liberty, which should be OK also i believe...
