Would A Fiberglass Make A Good Electric Only Lake Boat??
thats the main concern Kevin, however, 3 or 4 years ago when they still allowed gas engines in that lake, sometimes i would just use the trolling motor on the bassboat all morning. a lot of times i didnt even use the big engine. how many # do you think i would need to move the one pictured?? and BassinBee, thanx for the offer, but im a little too far away, south of the border, in Mexico...

Would A Fiberglass Make A Good Electric Only Lake Boat??
as i mentioned in another thread, a local lake is electric only. due to my current work schedule this year i will be limited mostly to fishing this lake during the weekends. using the trolling motor of the bassboat is not an option, any gas powered boat is not allowed. therefore this lake gets lots of bank fishermen but very few, if any, boat fishermen. i have an old tin boat, but its no good for standing up, its not stable enough, and its very small. besides, i dont have a truck and the boat has no trailer. i have been thinking of modifying this boat for fishing, installing a trolling motor on the transom, pontoons, and decking it as low as i can, in order to be able to stand up or install the bassboats pedestal seats. however i would need to get a trailer for it, or ask for a friend with a truck to come and fish with me, and some times he cant come. the other option is to purchase another boat. of course tin would be the first option but i have not found any tin boats in here. i did find a glass boat with trailer, with no motor, which i can have for $450. the boat is in very rough shape as can be seen in the pictures, but it would get me in the water and i think i can restore it without spending a ton, as i already restored the bassboat, we painted, carpeted and everything ourselves. what do you think?? i would remove the "console", and install a front trolling motor as it would serve for fishing and moving it around, and front and rear casting decks. that would cover the basic needs.

Old Aluminium Boat
well, here are some pics of my old tin boat. it was my grand dad's, so its really old. since it got really hot they covered it with some type of foam but its now falling appart. i may end up removing it and covering the benches with some wood. since i also have a bassboat, i never paid attention to it, but now the closest lake is electric only, im thinking on restoring the tin boat and use it for that lake. as you see in the pics, its not very deep, only an oar's paddle deep (third pic) so standing in it is difficult. thats why i want to add a couple of pontoons. 5 gallon jugs may do the trick, i just have to find some and try it out. its an oar wide, maybe a little more than 1 yard on the widest part. what i would really like to do would be to deck it as low as possible, just to make a more stable standing platform and install flush seat mounts to mount my bassboat seats, like the one on the first pic. however that wont be possible unless i make something to do it more stable... the other option is buying a wider, better boat, but i havent been able to find one in my city (im in Mexico).

Old Aluminium Boat
i dont know i have to see it in person. however i think its bigger than mine as they use a 25hp motor in this one, and on mine a 10 hp felt a big too much...

Old Aluminium Boat
trading is not an option as my boat was my granddad's and my father wont sell it...it has been laying there for several years now, being used only occasionally, but still, my dad wants to keep it... i found this one for around $500 with a 30# Minn Kota for the transom. i would like to deck it almost completely, just leaving room to sit. do you think it would be possible to fish 2 people out of it??

Old Aluminium Boat
well, with two people, it becomes very unstable, i have tried it, and im not comfortable enough to cast standing up being by myself, with another person im sure it would be impossible. maybe my boat is smaller than the one in the pic, or i dont know why, but its very unstable. and WIGuide, im in Mexico. the reason behind it being electric only supposedly is to prevent contamination, so no, i cant use the other boat, i already tried, i asked if i removed the propeller, if i trimmed it up, and they always said no.

Old Aluminium Boat
thats something i had thought about, i have seen canoes with them... however i think they would interfer with boating fish?? maybe add them just to the front??

Old Aluminium Boat
hey. one of the local lakes is now within city limits and they made a park around it, with a 5 mile running track all around the lake and such. so, the lake is now electric only. i used to use the bassboat in there and sometimes i would only use the trolling motor. however, now its not possible, even without a prop, i cant use the boat in there. however, i have another older boat. its like this one (this is an internet pic but my boat is very similar, if not the same) i have a 3HP motor for that one, but this motor is also out of the question. and, i also have a small trolling motor i could use. however, this boat is really unstable, its big enough for 2 people, and we are even able to cast more or less, but we have to sit and not move much. there is no way we can stand up. so, what could i do to make it more stable?? i would even like a casting deck, but im not sure what approach should i take. the local lake was just restocked with bass, and its only 10 minutes from my house, so i would like to male this boat work, as not many people are able to leave the bank now, i would like to take advantage of that.

Most Important Thing You Forgot At Home?
been there, done that, fortunately it was on the local lake, a 20 min drive. since then, i put a padlock on the trailer, and put the boat key and lock key on the same keychain. that way i cannot hang the trailer on the truck without the keys...

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise
even though the fishing is strictly C&R they are allowed to put some nets to get tilapia, and they say the catch a lot of bass in the nets as well. i did try some 10" and 12" worms looking to get bigger fish, but i didnt see any difference in size or number of fish. the biggest fish of the trip was caught on a 6" senko.

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise
thats right, people are coming here because of numbers, not size. this lake is relatively new, and its C/R only, even if you bring your boat you will have a guide with you to make sure you dont take any fish. even if you gut hook them and they die, you have to return them to the water. hopefully in some years it will reach Baccarac´s level.

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise

Keeping Bass Out Of Season
as he said, its poaching, illegal, and incorrect. here in Chihuahua, Mexico we have a big poaching issue, we are not allowed to fish (not even C&R) from March 10 to June 25. well, you can go right now to the lake and a lot of people will be catching and keeping every bass they can. we have 2 lakes within half an hour, and now, you can barely catch any fish, as poachers have literally taken all the fish in the lake. we have reported them to the authorities, but they dont care. i know authorities in the US care, so it would be good to report them now before its too late. one poacher will probably do no harm, but its illegal anyways.

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise
thanx Mod!! according to googlemaps, Baccarac (Bacurato as we know it) is 14 hours away. the big difference between that one and the lake we visited is the price. we spent less than 1300 USD, between the 3 of us, for 2 days of fishing, including everything, driving, boat rental, guide, tips, food, etc. thats $430 USD each. Bacurato targets American market, so they charge in USD and they charge a lot. i would like to go there sometime for a chance to get a really big fish, but maybe later...

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise
day 3 this day we had a great morning. within 2 hours we had boated 55 fish. a 4 pounder and a 4 pound 5 oz after that we requested the guide to go for bigger fish. the numbers decreased considerably but the size went up. this is my biggest fish for the trip, a little under 6 pounds we kept catching 4-5 pounders all day long. we even got some nice doubles and even a nice triple (2 nice fish and a smaller one, but a triple anyways) a nice one my dad caught 1.86 kilos, a little more than 4 pounds a couple more: i just realized since i had the only camera, i have very few shots of myself...anyways, i also took only random pics, as the fishing was so hot i couldnt waste time taking pictures a nice 5 pounder my friend got right before sunset and thats the last fishing pic. this is a shot of the other side of the dam overall we got more than 250 fish in less than 2 1/2 days. even though the biggest one was more than 7 pounder, we missed the really big ones of the lake, fish in excess of 12 lbs have been caught in there. anyways, we had a lot of fun, i caught 3 fish on consecutive casts, and so did my friend. it was really worth it, im already planing to return in november.

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise
another one i got one more of my father: another double i got with my friend: and then a triple, we had several of them in the trip: another double. there were a lot of times we had to net 2 fish at a time (with the same net). one more: a shot of the fishing boat. it was not a typical bass boat. we could have gotten a bass boat but those are only for 2 people. on these boats we could go up to 4 plus guide, but 3 fishermen are perfect. we even let the guide fish for a while. these are the bassboats they have for rent. they are small, but you dont really need much more, the lake is relatively small.

Mexico's Fishermans Paradise
hey. i just returned home from a 2 day fishing trip in Mexico's fisherman's paradise. they say a picture is worth a thousand words, if that is true, i guess this picture sums up the trip: day 1 we left home on tuesday at 6 am, and after a 10 hour drive, we arrived directly to the lake. by 5 pm we were on the first fishing spot. this day we only managed 30 bass in 2.5 hours. this was good considering my father had not picked up a rod in like 10 years, and he is new to worm fishing. i had to explain him what it feels like and how to set the hook. he only got 6 fish on the first day after missing a lot of strikes. the majority of the fish were in the 3 - 4 1/2 lbs. we were fishing right in here, so 50 lb braid was a must. another one that my friend got: and one of mine. i dont like using sunblock, so i always wear a buff. fortunately the weather was not as hot as it usually is this time of year. my dad and my friend managed the first and second doubles of the trip right before sunset: another nice one of my dad: day 2 sunrise from the door of the cabin, the lake is right below: this was the biggest one of the trip, a little more than 7 pounds (we measure in kilograms, 3.200 kilos) another double:

Hottest Lake In Mexico
thanx! thats right, this lake supposedly is great for numbers, not so much for size, since its a relatively new lake. even though, there is a chance of a 9-10 lb (my friend got a 9 lb there). ill post a trip report after we return, we are going there tomorrow!!

Hottest Lake In Mexico
hey. im leaving for 2 days of fishing in what supposedly is the hottest lake right now in Mexico. 50-70 fish days are not uncommon, with the average being 3-4 lbs, some in the 5-6 lbs, and good chances to get a 8-9 lb as well. the guide even says they caught some 12 lbers recently. this is a highly managed lake, with C&R exclusively, thats why they are getting these numbers. if everything works as planned ill return next friday and write a review next weekend. meanwhile this is a pic a friend sent me a couple months ago from the place, he says they got 100+ fish that day, and this one was his biggest.
