1994 Javelin For $4000, Good Price??
well, today we went to the lake, checked it out, and, as i had suspected, i ended up pulling her home... its a 379T if i remember correctly. it started at the first turn of the key, and everything works except the RPM and TRIM gauge...bilge, livewells, lights, everything is ready to fish. so, here it is. for the smaller waters within 2 hours of m house this will be more than enough, and now i have access to bigger water where i didnt even dare taking my old boat... it needs some work, ill be adding rod holders in the rod locker (its basically a long box), some cup holders, and, eventually, i would like to sand it and put a new clear coat, as its faded in some points... but ill have to look more into this as im not sure how it will hold... i may even wrap it and that will make her look almost new.... here it is... pulling with the wrangler was easy, and the brakes on the trailer make it also easy and safe to stop...

1994 Javelin For $4000, Good Price??
hey. i have been looking for a bassboat for a while to replace my old (really old, 1977) bassboat.... the one i currently own has a 85HP still running, i still fish out of it sometimes, but its not as comfortable, is very small, and besides, a friend offered me $1700 for it, so im selling it tomorrow... now, i live in Mexico, so finding boats in here is more difficult than in the US.... this is the one im really considering: 1994 Javelin, 18 ft, with a 150HP Johnson, Hotfoot 71lb trolling motor Humminbird 857 CI HD at the console Humminbird 550 at the bow trailer with brakes marine radio (communication) owner claims 50+ MPH with 2 adults owner wants $4700 for it, but i think i can have it for $4100 or so... is it a good price?? i know its still an older boat, but its way better than mine, local, and ready to fish... it has some flaws, but mostly cosmetical, like the faded spots seen in the pictures... the trim and speed gauges dont work, i think every ther gauge does... what do you think?? anything to be aware about?? on another post some people advised me against the Force motors... can anyone identify this motor?? i asked him about it and he only said its a Johnson 150HP from 1994 or 95, but he had it painted and added the decals... by the way, im taking it for a test drive on saturday... thanx!!

Rod Storage In Your Jon Boat...
i did this on mine. its for an electric only lake, but if i were to add an outboard i could easily velcro the rods in there just in case....

Storing Rods Inside Car, Horizontally
thanx!! i also thought it could cause some damage, but wanted to know some first hand experience from someone who actually had something bad happen to his rods... im leaving them there for now, because im fishing almost daily, but i will remove at least the rods if i know im not going in a couple of days....
-
Storing Rods Inside Car, Horizontally
thanx, ill check on it. i already replaced the tip on one of those rods, and it got a little adhesive residue underside which i can use to monitor if the temps are getting that high.... if it melts, i will know its too hot and most probably will have to take the rods off the jeep.... and lbmfisherman, i used to take off the reels when i fished every couple of weeks, and i still do for long trips... but when you are fishing almost daily, it gets old.... season began last friday, and so far i went fishing friday, sunday, monday, and i will go again today.... so i dont want to be taking off the reels and putting them back on every day... i may put reel covers just to protect them, i have covers for all of them i just have to find them....

Storing Rods Inside Car, Horizontally
it can be easily removed, as its just velcroed to the rollbar.... on the first pics you can see the velcro...

Storing Rods Inside Car, Horizontally
thanx! the rods dont sag as they are resting behind the reel and almost at the middle. maybe if the supports were farther apart the rods would have more bow, but they dont... however, due to the reels weight, they will be basically always at the same position, so i was thinking they could get damaged over time.... 2 rods have braid, but one does has mono on it.... i will keep an eye on it... and yes, the temps inside can et hotter than outside i know, but i dont know how much or how can it affect....

Storing Rods Inside Car, Horizontally
hey. fishing season just started here, and i have a good lake 10 minutes from home and just behind my GFs house, its a 5 minute walk from her house to the lake... so, i would like to store a couple of rods in my jeep, so i can go fishing in the morning before work or in any spare time i have... normally i store the rods in a vertical holder inside the house. so, i want to ask, if the heat (we are in the mid 80s but we reach up to 100* F) or storing them horizontally can damage them?? i dont have really expensive rods, they are a couple of Falcons and a Veritas, but i dont want to bend or damage them in any way.... this is what i built to store them:

Boat Wont Shut Down
if you are talking about the Force on the Nitro from another post, thats a boat i was planing on buying, i havent even seen it in person... the one im having trouble with is my old Johnson 85HP on my current boat...

Where To Get A Used Boat? Fish N Ski??
thanx. in fact i think we already decided not to look at the Nitro because its a fish n ski, and we fish 90% of the time so we prefer to have a bassboat and try to ski out of it sometimes (maybe add a removeable pylon), than compromise fishing ability all year just to be able to ski 2 or 3 times a year....

Boat Wont Shut Down
hey. i have a bassboat with an old Johnson 85HP from early 1980s i believe. the motor runs great, starts at the turn of a key, but it wont shut down. i already replaced the ignition switch (where you insert the key), but the problem is still there. where can it be getting power?? i can even remove the key, and the engine will still be running... where could i begin looking for?? it must be getting power from somewhere else but i cant figure it out...

Where To Get A Used Boat? Fish N Ski??
hey. i just sold my old bassboat and im looking for another one. i live in Mexico, very close to the border with Texas and New Mexico, so i though i could search there as well... where do you look for used boats besides craiglist?? with the currency we have now (16 pesos for 1 dollar), i have about $5000 to spend on the boat. there are 2 boat within that price range in my city, but i want to check for more options. #1 belongs to the local fishing store owner, its a 1999 Nitro, Fish N ski, with a 120 HP motor. everything is in working condition (according to him). he wants $4875. its similar to this one (not actual photos) #2 belongs to a retired man who just took fishing a couple years ago and got this boat... its in very good condition as well, it has an Evinrude Intruder 150HP, and a wireless Minn Kota trolling motor with GPS. he wants $5300. its this one (actual photos): now, the boat will be used mostly for fishing, but the season goes from June 25 2015 to March 10 2016, so, from March to June we cannot fish. those are the hottest months of the year, and i have a lake 20 minutes from home where we can ski or tow an inflatable. thats why i want at least 120HP (my old boat was 85HP).... i think i prefer a bassboat, but if the Fish N Ski is any good i could consider it, specially because it has 4 seats. but how good is it for fishing?? doesnt it sits too high in the water?? i can go and test it once the seasons starts, but i thought i would ask first for someone who has fished on one of those... thanx...

Life Expectancy Of An Outboard???

What Have Been Some Of Your Better Buys In Rods And Reels?
2 years ago i found a couple Falcon Bucoo Microguide rods for $30 at Academy. i bought both of them, kept one and sold the other one for full retail here in Mexico where i live ($130 at that time). unfortunately they didnt have more, i would have bought 2 or 3 more to sell here.

Male Or Female Bass??
well, i know most of us are sport fisherman who practice C&R exclusively... but for those who are not, when you are going to take home a fish, do you check if its male or female?? is there a reliable way of knowing the gender?? someone claims he does and he only takes males, i think theres no certain way of checking without opening the animal. he even said one cannot call himself a sport fisherman if he cant determine the gender.... what do you think??

My Truck's Fishing Setup
well its actually not a truck, but an SUV, i drive a 2002 Xterra, and i can fit my 7' rods easily, maybe up to 7' 6" im guessing. for a truck i would do something different, maybe a sturdy PVC pipe secured on the bed of the truck with smaller PVC pipes inside....
