Wacky Rigged Techniques...
I have also used a wacky rig under a small bobber about 18" down over hydrilla. This actually worked well, but I didn't like using the bobber. The chop on the water will keep it dancing.

Hydrilla Frustration!
My lake is slowly being taken over by Hydrilla - about a foot below the surface. (Very thick in pretty clear water) The water is about 80 degrees here in New England. I tried wacky rigging a senko under a small bobber and that produced a few, but I didn't care for the presentation. Using a bobber didn't seem right. We have been picking up some with soft plastics, but I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas to get the hydrilla gorillas! All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

How do you prefer to fish?
Submarine - it's easier to see the fish. Bassboat - my legs get sore if I can't stretch out once in a while.

The Best Time of Day
I mostly use soft plastics and usually get out around 5:30 A.M. on week ends - I don't know why though because we always do our best between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. (Shoulda stayed home and slept) Lately we have been doing good after 7:00 P.M. also. On any given day, there always seems to be windows of opportunity and then the window shuts down tight! I think the fish need to start reading the same books and articles we do!

who would you fish with on this forum??
The other two I would like to fish with is "Hawg Hunter" in Iowa - that man posts some awesome looking fish on a regular basis! The other would be RW because he obviously knows how to catch em up and I would love to get some of those smallies!

who would you fish with on this forum??
If you ever get the chance to fish with LB Hooker - Do it! That man can fish - great guy and one Funny Dude! Not only that, he makes movies of the trip.

The Worst
Anything that's not soft! I love fishing worms, Ikas and creatures. Everything else beats me up! I bet I've made well over a thousand casts with a spinnerbait only to catch a couple pickerel and one of those broke me off at the boat. I don't know how KVD does it!

best time of day
We seem to catch most of our fish (at what I thought was the worst time of the day), between 10:00A.M. and 2:00. We can't figure it out, but that time slot has been the most productive. (I don't fish after dark though) I'm probably using the wrong baits early in the morning, but thats the time that works for us!

Texas or wacky ??
Great Question Waraw - I also wondered about that. I'm a die hard T-Rigger, but after reading this, I'm gonna give the wacky style a better chance. Like Rogue, I haven't given it much of a chance because the T-Rig has been very successful for me. Low Budget Hooker might come down my way on Friday and I will give it a chance.

Nitro 700 LX 90HP Speed!
I have a 17 foot 1993 Nitro with a 90 Evinrude - goes close to fifty with 2 people.

What percentage of your bites are landed?
Good Question - I wondered about that also! I use mostly Senkos, Ikas and kreatures. On those I think it's pretty good, maybe 70% or so. Topwaters - much different - maybe 25%. Spinnerbaits and cranks - I'm still waiting for a bite to find out! Man I stink with that stuff!

Sturgeon General Warning:"Senkonlylimitativism"
As a wise man named Road Warrior once said, "I go fishing to CATCH fish." If you were out fishing and getting NADA on crankbaits, spinnerbaits etc. and your partner was killing em on senkos, you wouldn't tie one on because you think it's too easy? WOW When I go fishing, I also wanna CATCH fish, even if it means using a helicopter lure if it is working! I wish I was a better angler and more versatile, but I ain't gonna look a gift fish in the face. Maybe I don't take it seriously enough, but I do like Catchin!

How do YOU find a pattern?
OK so we sit down and analyze the conditions, clear water, wind from the sourthwest, water high, recent rain and cloudy etc etc. I think we all do this to some extent. But I think what AL is asking is what do we do with that particular information. Does each one of those things relate to a different retrieve or presentation. I know there is no one answer, but the new fisherman (like myself) really don't know what to do with this information. In other does cloudy mean use spinnerbaits, does high water mean it's gonna be tough bite, should we just fish wind blown shores, because of recent rain are the fish more aggressive? I know it's not an easy answer and it probably comes from experience, but it is difficult for the newbees to analyze this type of information. Do a lot of you guys have this probem? I sure do!

Sturgeon General Warning:"Senkonlylimitativism"
Yes - I have a bad case of it. Mine is Senko / Ika disease. LBH definately had me in mind when he wrote this - but he is still my friend and he is exactly right! I love catching LMB so much and I do pretty good using soft stuff. I feel like I'm wasting my time with everything else. I really do give the other stuff a shot, but I usually have the same result. Nada. It's so hard to throw other stuff when you know the soft stuff will probably catch you a bigun! I NEED HELP!!!!! Crankin - Just gives me a Spankin Spinnerbait - All I ever do is Wait Jerkin - I always take a Hurtin Tried a Jig - Ain't my Gig

post rain fishing
I have small farm pond I fish that sounds exactly like that one. I do really well with senkos and ikas. But after a rain the bite always slowed down. I was watching Bass Saturday last year and Byron was talking about how to fish small ponds after rain. He said spinnerbaits were the answer. I went to the pond after the next rain and tried it. By the way, I very rarely use spinnerbaits. But, he was right, I remember getting 6 or 7 in a half hour. Give it a try, it worked for me!

Personal bassin' video footage
Russ You gotta show me how to do that when you come down! The boss asked me if I would take a half day today and take him fishing. I guess if he forces me too! I'm going Sat & Sun too. Still haven't seen a bed yet and the water is still around 60. As soon as the bite is on, I'll be calling you! Is the Dirkster still singing Suprano or has he fully recovered? LOL Talk to ya soon!

Matching the Hatch
Scoot - I'm still trying to figure out what you just said? Anyway - I'm still confused with this RED color thing. Red hooks, bleeding baits, using red because it will attract the fish. But then you read that red fishing line disappears in the water better than any other color. Hmmmmm

eating bass?

Deep Hooked Hook Removal ..... Illustration
I'm amazed how good that method works. I show it to everyone that gets on my boat. There is nothing worse than hurting one of those beauties!

How big is this bass? - new picture added
Great Fish! I'm sure that was hard to release (not knowing the weight) but at least you have a great picture and you'll have a chance to catch her again. Don't worry about the weight because as years go by and you tell the story about the farm pond bass, she will get a bit heavier each time. I'm guessing in 5 years from now, you will be telling your friends about the 16 lb bass you caught - at least that's what I would do. LOL

Name your Favorite TV Fishing Personality
Landinlunkers - Charlie Moore? Wow - the guy tries to do more comedy (badly) than fishing. I have to turn the volume off to watch that fool. The only reason I watch him is because he is local and fishes some of the places I fish. Each to his own though!
-
why do people hate this guy?
I actually enjoy watching the guy and he seems pretty knowledgeable. Now, if you want to talk annoying like non other, only one name comes to mind. Charlie ( I really need to get over myself) Moore!
