  1. i tried my hand at super tuning,i bought a cheap little dremmel , and appropriate sandpaper to polish pinion and other friction points, and one thing that i think is crucial, is flushing the bearings in lighter fluid, then while they soak, spin them ocasssionally, then flush them in rubbing alcohol to flush out the lighter fluid, as i believe i read the lighter fluid may leave a residue of some sort, and i wish i had acess to to yellow rocket fuel, as i read thats the best for bearings, i use ardent reel butter oil i believe its called, i spent many a hour reading up on super tuning, and many a hour trying it, it is worth the time and effort, i found a clip on you tube where a gentleman doesnt use grease, just sprays down gears with rem oil, but services his reels often, so the person says grease isnt neccesary if cleaned often with rem oil, which sounds good to me, as if there is a little grease on gears , it could splatter, and cause casting distance issues,, now , i dont know if thats true, it just sounded good,, but my reels seem like they could use a tune every 2 to 3 weeks, i go fishin to the same spots, and when im having trouble hitting certain structure, its tune up time, and its not realistic to pay for that to be done,,,so i had like 4 reels to be tuned every 2 to 3 weeks, and they do take a little time, one article i read from estimated about 3 hours per reel, , i didnt believe it, but sure enough , he was pretty accurate on the estimate,,this is my second season bass fishin, and first servicing my reels, i serviced a daiwa zillion type r , curado e7, revo winch, chronarch mg, they all had much better performance once i tuned them,,, im learning , and still learning,, i hope i helped,, basically in a nutshell,, flush bearings, and your good, and if you have time, give your reel the works, good luck

  3. i think i know what your talking about,, im tired , and half read your post, so forgive me if im not helpful,, i tried my hand at reel repair, so i hope i can help,, i believe in usuing no grease anywhere, if you service it yourself, use rem oil on gears, and clean often, as you have to without grease, and if you soak rem oil in the base where the axle turns, that (sorry dont know names, just know by sight)it should break down grease, or better yet, use lighter fluid on base, and it will definatly makes handle spin better, but rem oil is probaly enough,, and it pobaly isnt a issue, so its up to you, and im sure there will be people that will dis agree with me,, but hey,, i ve done it , it gets better perfomance to me when all grease is gone from everywhere. but i felt like my reels needed service within a month, and i only fished a couple hours a day so,, depends on how much free time you have, as i was unemployed when trying to get into reel repair, ,,now the last thing i want to do after work, is tinker with a baitcaster,, hope i helped
  4. thanks for the reccomendation on the rods,,, any word if this reel has upgraded bearings ,,,i know the zillion type r has some sort of upgraded bearings stock,,,
  5. i think i am gonna tell my girl i need a couple months to myself,,,, to pay for this pixy...does anyone know what rod would match well with the pixy?
  6. All i want is the chronarch to be around 5.5 ounces, super smooth, good drag and under $250. But in reality, i hope whatever comes out is worth putting in my lineup. The rumors are fun. Gotta give tackle junkies something to do. I feel a little better now knowing the stradic is made, in malaysia, as people swear by them. I saw a pic of what was supposed to be the new chronarch,, and if it was a real pic, of the actual new chronarch, and not a decoy pic, it doesnt look like it can be too light, or as light as i want anyway.
  7. I believe i read somewhere that the new curado, chronarch will be made in malaysia. Some say its the same factory as the one in japan, just different location. just curious to see if anyone out there thinks the quality will suffer. Im sure price will come down, as its cheaper to assemble there, but a new better cheaper chronarch or curado sounds far fetched
  8. Good rods can be found at that price, Take your reel with you and try it on the rod before you buy it, The lower end shimano stuff can be heavy, maybe not all, but the ones i held, I saw a berkley amp rod for like $40, It was a 1 piece and seemed ok. The shimano clarus 1 piece spinning rod is good for a little extra, its like 70 i think, but it is in the quality zone,,, Try to get a 7 foot 2 or 7 foot at the very least.
  9. good luck on your tournament, and remember to bring binoculars, to see what the competition is throwin,
  10. its my second year with baitcasters, so i past the give up point, and the must haves are , reel magic ,the stuff you spray on the line , and clean flushed bearings.
  11. sounds like i should buy all three, now the next problem is braid for summer froggin. i see a maxed out credit card in my future.
  12. yeah i hate cutting line when its my fault.,which is always the case i suppose,,,.... as for when your done fishing, loosen the drag all the way, i tried my hand at reel repair, and learned from a gentlemen, and he says if you leave your drags tight after fishing, its like a couch on the carpet, the legs leave a compressed spot, so over time, the washer will begin to stutter because of the flat spots, i know for some reels you could use a fine wire brush, to smooth out bad drags. Im new to reel repair, so i cant say i know from experience , but it made sense the way he explained it. good luck ..
  13. Loosen the tension knob as loose as possible, turn off all brakes, and go to town. ,, It took me alot of line, but im close to being good at it.
  14. thanks for the advice, line and lure is now on my shopping list today.
  15. if anyone has used all 3, what would be the smallest diameter, and cast the best. I know there are probaly pros and cons of each, i would like to use 15 pound floroclear pline, i used some seaguar that came with a reel i got, but i got a backlash and the line got warped, or something, as i am new to florocarbon i dont know what i did, but i dont want to waste a whole spool of line , as it is expensive stuff. Is this a problem with seaguar only, or do all florocarbons do it, the line wasnt smooth, it has bad creases in it, like it got mangled, it was casting fine before the backlash,,, sorry to be such a noob. any advice would help alot. thank you in advance
  16. thanks for your reply,, much appreciated
  17. thanks for the reccomendation for new drags, i checked them after i read your reply, and the drags stutter, they arent smooth, i then read other 51mgs are like that,, . Any one know if it is possible to replace the bushing in the worm shaft, with a bearing,,sorry if i didnt get the name of the part right, as im new to baitcasters somewhat. thanks
  18. Hello, i just scored a chronarch 51 mg, and i havent found much on what i can do to upgrade it, i know im going to put orange seal ceramics in it,, im going to polsh the friction points, but i would like to know if any of you have any other suggestions. Or could point me to a trusted website to order upgrades. thanks in advance
  19. I will be using it for plastics and light jigs, kind of all purpose. But i will probaly work mostly plastics. Like one gentlemen said, backbone is the issue, and i would like a medium, even a medium light, i will have 15b pound braid on it. a 5 inch senko is probaly as heaviest i will toss, It just seemed a medium wouldnt handle a descent bass burying itself in the weeds, but if you guys say it can , i trust your opionions on here, i got about a week before i buy the rod, it just seems like the medium i got doesnt have enough of a strong whip to it , to cast light stuff, but i have a low end 6 foot 6 medium , so a 7 foot well built medium, may be what i need, thanks for the opinions, and thanks in advance for more opinions
  20. It is a nice reel, I got mine used, but a gentleman on here informed me that tackle warehouse has them for $99. For that price, or even $120, i think it cant be beat for that price, i dont wish i had another reel, it serves it purpose perfectly
  21. I was thinking about getting the johnny morris carbon black, it felt nice, if any of you have one and care to give your opinion on it , that would be great. I want a 1 piece 7 foot, maybe even 7'3, or 7,6. . The vendettas were nice also, but i think im a cork handle kind of guy. I caught a 1 pound largemouth yesterday, and the medium spinning rod i was using seems like it couldnt handle much more, im sure it could but a 5 pounder, in some weeds , and im sure it wouldnt be fun, so should i go medium heavy, or heavy, but i want to use the rod for somewhat light stuff, like flukes. I would appreciate some advice,, thanks all
  22. Well thank you all for the feedback, I found a tierra 2500 local, and had to get it quick, Craigslist comes through sometimes. thanks again all.
  23. I was at bps and it seemed like the one to buy, as it seemed the smoothest to me. I want to put 15 pound braid on it , and use it mostly for light jigs. If you have advice on which size reel is best for that app, or if you have had one, and found something that is smoother and casts better i would be thankful for the advice, thanks in advance.
  24. sorry , wrong section, i am new to bass resource, and did not realize there is a section for this topic,,, i re- posted in the local forum
  25. Hello, if your here in sac, im sure you know how tough the bass fishing is, please post where they are biting, and i will share all i know also,,, thanks, and i hope to hear from you guys
