Welcome! where are you fishing in Chesapeake? i used to live there...
  2. Glad youre aboard! what area do you live in?
  3. DARRENM: i think you hit the nail on the head about the color inconsistency i find that STIK-O's are better colored in more solid patterns such as watermelon magic or black/blue fleck etc. where they really seem to "pay off" is their durability. they seem to last longer than the Yammies. just my thoughts...
  4. Look forward to hearing from someone who knows how to fish! Welcome to forum.
  5. i live in VA Beach also and found your site helpful. im looking to fish stumpy lake in the near future on my kayak. did you blog about that on a certain day? if so could you help? Thanks...
  6. i agree with the spinner bait. get it knocking around in there, that'll tick em off! this may snag if youre not careful, but have you tried a drop shot rig next to the pile? sometime on slow days that can be killer! also poppers are deadly around laydowns too. let it sit there until all the ripples disappear, then pop it again, maybe twice and repeat. some of my best catches came from a brush pile and a popper. Good luck! Let us know if you get into anything!
  7. Maybe i've just never seen this before, but in my lake, i saw a bass scream out from a brush pile, miss my lure completely and shoot off into the next brush pile. not even a half a second later 2 more bass jet after the first. so i started throwing my lure along the brush piles, i hook up i with one only to lose it when i jumped out of the water. nothing too weird yet. but 10 minutes later i hook up with a 3.5 pounder and im working it out of the brush pile and into open water towards me. as i look down in the water i see two other bass chasing the hooked bass. all three were nose to nose until i reached down and lipped the one i had hooked. then they took off. maybe this was feeding frenzy and ive just never seen one up close, but i was bizarre nonetheless.
  8. id love to have a boat, but opted for the "poor mans boat" and bought a kayak. turns out i love the kayak, forgot about the boat (for now) and do pretty well on it. i like it cause i can just though it and my gear in the back of the truck and head out. i can usually dodge ramp fees because you can launch from almost anywhere. i have also found a lake here in VA that has stumpy area were boats cant get to, guess what? "unpressured" fish! just lookin for you to find a way to get out there but anyways WELCOME!
  9. This VA fisherman is JEALOUS of your fishing "local"! Welcome to the forum and good luck in "the land of plenty".
  10. i'd have to agree with several of the posts before mine. some of the biggest fish ive caught were on days that i was "just fishing". when i'm "just fishing" i tend to stick to what works longer and try harder.
  11. open the Trokar spam email, go down to the bottom where the fine print is and click "unsubscribe". This actually works this subject was cool. ive always wanted to try Trokar, but havent because of the price. thanks!
  12. Welcome to the forum from anther VA fisherman! i agree with "Sam", Southeast forum has alot of guys/gals that understand our area.
  13. Welcome from another VA fisherman!
  14. Wow, this is going to be hard to keep short, but i'll try. for all the jobs you described above for this line, i would (and do) use 8lb "P-Line Floroclear" Its a co-polymer line that is CHEAP and effective. $8.99 usually for 300 yards. its pretty much invisible in the clearest of waters. the 8lb has held up like 10lb. it resists abrasion very well. i love its sensitivity. i use this instead of braid. works great with 1/8th oz finesse jigs. i have that "everything" spin cast rod and reel and i swear by the Floroclear. "wdycrankbait" let me have some on a fishing trip and its my go to line ever since. it does however have one drawback. if you dont cinch down the knot (more so than mono) it will untie on you during a fight. but just make sure you cinch it down and then you will have no problems. hope this helps. if you don't like the P-Line, also try Suffix Siege. knots hold better without so much effort.
  15. i cant agree more! BPS has outdone themselves here. there Tourney style senkos out last senkos and are cheaper than dingers. even with all the local lakes i fish, neither senko or dinger out does the other. i hate to admit it but i actually need BPS here...
  16. love the profile picture...great reaction to a LM! thats priceless... Keep 'em fishin!
  17. I too love to get out out early as possible because i can fish until i get tired vs trying to beat the daylight. MY BEST FISH HAVE COME THE LAST 2 HOURS BEFORE SUNSET! my PB was caught 30 minutes before sunset. see profile picture.
  18. All of it depends on the conditions and what the bass in that lake want. vague, i know. let me explain. i use different rigs depending on what lake im fishing and the conditions. for purple worms, i mostly just texas rig it with a sliding bullet weight, usually no bigger than 1/4 oz. using senkos, i either texas rig them weightless or wacky rig them. one lake i fish loves a wacky rigged senko. another lake i fish seems to prefer the senkos t rigged. on hot sunny day, i usually fish t rigged worms near wood or bounce the bottom. the bass will tell you what they want. Prime real estate for shore fishing is drop offs (usually they are parallel to the shore line). i try to throw my lure as parallel to the shore along the drop off as i can. that way youre in the strike zone longer. look for any kind of structure. structure can be sunken wood, a bowl like pocket in the lake bottom, weed lines, docks and rocks. if you see structure, HIT IT! if you look at my profile picture, you may notice the dock railing behind me. this dock is long with access to shallow and deep water. these kind of docks are great for finding fish! you can drag your bait parallel to the dock looking for suspended bass under the dock. you can cast shallow to deep looking for bass suspended on a drop off or weed line. then you can though deep diving cranks and worms to fish for the bigger fish in the deep. i've actually out fished friends on boats from the shore before. get out there, you will learn alot. I saw schooling bass on a feeding frenzy annihilate my lure the other day. while i was pulling my hooked bass in, two others were chasing it! weird but cool nonetheless. Good luck -Sean
  19. yeah, good points... the "photog" (my wife) snapped a quick photo while the camera was dying. we were lucky to get the one we did. i'll remember the tip
  20. Well done! bet that was a great fight!
  21. I live in VA, and if i had to leave everything at home and fish with 1 rod and 2 lures i would pick a purple worm and senko! buzz baits, cranks, poppers, etc are all good and have their place dont get me wrong. but plastics here work really well all year round. senkos are excellent slow presentation baits. great for throwing under trees, docks, and in weeds. bass love them! purple worms are my search and destroy bait. good for finding fish before you know what else to throw at your new lake.
  22. Welcome to the forum from another fellow VA fisherman!
  23. Caught this bass today at my home lake! this is the 3rd Largemouth I've caught with a storm swimbait. Great fight! first larger bass caught on my Shimano Compre. Wasnt able to weigh it, but im guessing 3 lbs. what do you think?
  24. If i had to go anywhere and fish, i would have to pick a 5" Yum DInger Senko! best for making lock jaw bass bite! great all year presentation...
  25. i've lost 3 phones... i guess i get to join the "should've left the phone in the car" club
