  1. Where are you located. We visit N. Wisconsin each summer; Hayward area (actually Cable but most don't know where that is). Great fishing up there
  2. Got the large Falcon Tackle Organizer (with boxes) for both Christmas and my birthday (Christmas day). Been moving tackle from old boxes to my new FTO. It's huge and will have to buy more tackle to fill up all the space
  3. Well made it back last week and everything you heard about poor fishing is true as far as our group was concerned. Pictures can be found at the following site: http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/ff192/rgreenwell1_photo/Brazil%2008/ If anybody would like the details PM me and I'd be happy to regale you with the stories of less than ideal fishing in the Amazon. :'(
  4. For my money try Don Cutter Amazon Fishing Adventures (www.peacockbasstrips.com). This is my third trip with them, the only outfitter I've ever used so can't compare to anyone else. But I've asked other fisherman on our trips who have used other outfitters and they've told me that Cutter is the best. Prices this year are $3500 not including airfare so plan on 5-6 thousand and that's for everything.
  5. Did you decide to postpone the trip or did your outfitter? I'm supposed to go in two weeks; hopefully the rain will let up before then
  6. Heard the area around Barcelos is getting a lot of rain. Some outfitters are talking about shutting down and praying the water will fall. Do you have any clue what's happening?
  7. Pavon_Pro: Any information you have would be apprecaited. I've fished the Unini the last two years and couldn't agree with you more. It's a fantastic river with many Grande Fish. My biggest last year was 23 lbs and lost a bigger one. Hope Cunini comes around with bigger fish. Catching "tweeners" is OK but really want big fish; don't we all!!!
  8. As I recall from reading about the Florida strain the biggest one caught so far was approximately 9lbs. Some guides in South America won't even bother bringing a 9lb fish in the boat; they'll shake them off at boatside. "Grande" fish are over 20lbs and that's some serious fighting fish!!! Redliner: I leave on 26 November, do you know where you're fishing, looks like we'll be on the Cunini (not Unini) just North of Barcelos.
  9. Redliner: Great reply; I didn't see the post until after you had replied. The reports I've been seeing indicate a lot of fish being caught but not that many grandes (20+ lbs) this year. Same with you??
  10. That spot on its back is sunlight
  11. Caught this nice 3lb 13oz this morning at Mercer on a buzzbait.
  12. Where are you fishing? I'm going in November (3rd trip)
  13. The peacock bass season in South America (Brazil, Venuzula) has been going on for a few weeks now but I haven't seen any reports yet. Anybody know how their doing down south??
  14. Thanks for the hints. Since I'm a backseater I'm not sure where we're putting in. Staying in South Hill so much be close to there. If I do any good will post report.
  15. Going to Lake Gaston next weekend for club tournment; anybody have any info on the lake would be appreciated.
  16. I'm leaving on Thanksgiving day this year and will return Dec 6th; expect more great/new pictures. I hope
  17. My Christmas list this year will be a Falcon V12 speedbag (with all the boxes included) probably from Cabelas. One of the members of our club has one and LOVES it. Keeps raving about it; I took a look a few weeks ago and agree. Great bag and those boxes keep everything organized.
  18. Daniel: Don't need a "special" bait for Dogfish; they'll hit anything that comes close to them, topwater, jerkbait, jig. You name it and they'll hit it. with their sharp teeth they'll easily cut braid and you'll lose that bait. That's why some of the guides break off a few teeth
  19. Going to be visiting family in the Cable area (Lake Owen) late July and early August. Looking for smallmouth guide in that area; anybody got recommendations? Thanks,
  20. Putting in tomorrow at Leesylvania; anybody got reports on what lures working, where to fish around that area (Mattawoman, Chix, etc). Thanks in advance for any hints
  21. I just went to the Delta Website and checked under special luggage, sporting goods and fishing. The site is very clear you can check fishing rods (properly encased) up to 80 inches. However that is in lieu of your regular free checked bag. So pack everything into your rod tube or carry on and if it's less than 80" you won't have to pay any extra. For anything over 80" or an extra bag you'll pay. Man the airlines have got it out for all the passengers. Don't know how you can travel with only one bag (weighing less than 50 lbs) per person.
  22. Find a club that is more interested in teaching members and sharing information. The only way to get better is to learn from those who know what they're doing. I belong to such a club and if you're interested PM me and I'll send info. For local tournments we lauch out of Leesylvania
  23. If you go to the VDGIF website and click the Boating link and then click the VA Watercraft Owners Guide it explains what equipment is required for what size boat and exceptions if any. Very through site with lots of good information. If you're a boat owner you should be very familiar with this site.
  24. Hope I'm posting this question to the right group. I'm in the market for a new tackle box/system and am very interested in the FTO system. However there are about 20 different box sizes and several size tackle bags. Does anyone use this system? If so what size(s) do you use and most importantly would you recommend the FTO system? Thanks for any insight
  25. The Park with bathrooms and boat rentals is a Fairfax County Park and if you're not a resident of Fairfax you have to pay (small fee; unsure of amount) to enter the park you also have to pay to launch a boat. If you use the DGIF area you don't have to pay to enter or launch. Glad to see the Conservation Officers are earning their pay. Now if they can do something about loose dogs chasing sticks/balls/etc in the water and scaring off all the fish.
