  1. Ha. I just pushed a treble through a horse fly and threw it out with a bobber. The baby bass ate everything off except the hook
  2. There sure is plenty of food. There was a 20" bass on the shore by our dock today. I tried a shakey head fished slow right in his face and watched him pass it and swim down to the neighbors dock. I followed with a wacky senko and nothing. I really miss the action we used to have on the dock. If the big fish weren't biting, we used to pound bluegill with worms and horse flies under bobbers but even the gills are absent.
  3. I made it a point to fish a fluke this whole weekend. I tossed it over schools that were being attacked but no bites. This lake is killing my optimism. I'm gonna go out early and fish the outflow channel and see what happens,
  4. I haven't caught a bass in over a month. I've tried everything in every presentation possible and haven't got a good nibble. I fish a private lake about 100 acres all long. The fishing before 80 degree water was great but it shut down in july. I've tried senkos cranks swimbaits long worms jigs jerkbaits and poppers at night. I've seen smallmouth tearing up the shad and tried casting baits thru them. I'm going to a shallow channel in the morning what should I br trying? Jigs and craws orbworms? I was planning on senkos and jigs, what do you think?
  5. You could try the shorter shaft and smaller sizes of mustad kvd trebles. Replacing the hooks will give your lure a different action though because the balance has changed. But this could work in your favor. A little more weight in the front or back of your crank could change the wobble to the presentation the fish can't resist. Cranks draw reaction bites. If you use single hooks, you will lose fish.

Who makes the best custom wooden cranks? I've seen custom painted rapalas but I don't know anyone who makes their own bodies with the killer performance.
  7. So did I miss the actual retrieve? Is it a slow steady on a c@asting reel/burning on cranking reel?
  8. Yea but can I get some for my cu201?
  9. I have a curado cu201 and I'm not sure if the handles pop off or I need to drill them.
  10. You got it! I would love a set for my shimano. You take orders?
  11. Has anyone ever made cork handles for their reels? I saw a higher end Daiwa with cork handles and fell in love. I can order them online from Japan for $20 a pop but would rather keep my money stateside. Are any rod builders up for the challenge?
  12. I have an led lamp made just for night fishing. There are a few websites that sell different lamps. www.fishinglightsetc.com is one of them. I tied the lamp to a dock post half way to the bottom in the spring and it does attract fish. I am kicking myself for not trying it last night (got skunked at dawn).
  13. Wow this thread is hilarious. I hate reading an opinion battle but only did because I just bought a mojo crank rod, I like it, but I'm no pro. Hell I barely get to fish as of lately. But the rod I bought did feel better then the rest of the rods I tried with a reel in Gander that day. Its personal preference being determined by opinion here on BR.
  14. If your parents want to see you do your homework, listen to them first. If you get home by 4, rush out or even get dropped off at the water by your ride. Then fish until 6 and go home so you can score brownie points and study after fishing. Make your parents happy and maybe they will buy you some new tackle if you pump out A's consistently.
  15. Gander mountain has a nice hummingbird on sale this week. I needed something smaller to swap between a jon boat and pontoon. I just bought a garmin 300c online and installed it last weekend. I have no idea how to use it but I understand its a process. For you its all about preference. There are many models and price ranges so read the reviews before you buy and search youtube for a demo.
  16. I never used live bait but I am ready to try it. Thanks Snook, when I go up Saturday ill take a bucket and net on the pontoon.
  17. I tried more craws. With jigs and without. Different colors sizes and presntation. Just one bite. Water temp is already at 84, this weeks forecast is pushing 90+. I will be back Saturday and will only fish at dusk.
  18. I was at the lake this weekend and did not do well. We all saw swarms off shad all over the lake and the minnows are getting big also. A neighbor said "they're not hungry too much food". I did catch a nice 3 pounder on a jig and pig but otherwise the bite was gone. I fished countdownds and divers, worms and spinners. I even tried frogs and poppers early and late in the day. What should my approach be? Wait till night or maybe even the fall?
  19. Garlic cloves
  20. Try using bungies or straps inside your car. Run them from the coat hanger on one side to the other. Put the rods on top, and use velcro straps to hold them in place. Saw this in field n stream and have it rigged in my buddys suv.
  21. Mono was very forgiving to me when learning my first baitcaster. I still leave it spooled with #20 for topwaters and cranks.
  22. I used 12# and then 10# stren and wasn't happy. The line jumped off the spool and it wasn't very full. I switched to an #8 braid and noticed a big difference in casting distance. If you want to stick with flouro, I hear great things about xps #12 on here.
  23. X2 on the pflueger president. I put the patriarch on the st croix eyecon 7' m xf I wanted and it felt unbalanced. Casting and holding this setup on a river all day was comfortable and only $50 bucks for the reel.
  24. Isn't this reel in a recent issue of field n stream? I'm looking for a finesse caster since my first setup can't throw anything light very far or accurately.
  25. I use trilene 20# on my revo and have for a while. I tried fireline for one day and almost thru my gear in the water after my second backlash. Maybe a better braid and more practice but I prefer a thicker mono, casts easy and minimal backlash.
