  1. Ok. And fyi, I'm using a 8flipping pole with 50lb pp. Sadly fishing from docks and shorelines, but I'll be fine as long as I can cast into some cover ya?
  2. Oh my god this hahaha. Nothing more true has been said
  3. I consider myself a fairly good fisherman. But I CANNOT catch fish on a plastics. It's like the most generic thing and I hear everyone talk about using plastics. I just don't get why I cant. I've tried most things, used my flipping set up and even my finese set up with worms, never a bite. I even toss up the retrieve every now and then as well. SO WHAT GIVES!!!
  4. Mines close to the first story. Friend and I were scouting out a golf course (for night fishing) late one night. We got to the water and I saw a weird shape in the water, about 20 ft away. Just assumed it was a goose or something. When we got closer, it decided to say what's up. It was a dude snorkeling for golf balls. We ran into a guy on a golf course, snorkeling, at 2 am. THE ODDS.
  5. Haha that's exactly why I was looking at it!
  6. Hm ghoti, I like that idea. It seems that the relationship lies in the length of the rod and not the action. I was looking at the smaller pfleuger Supreme XTs. About 6 to 7 oz I believe.
  7. This is where I get ignorant about the tapers and powers. I want to throw smaller cranks and minnow baits, so I was thinking a faster M or a ML. The Power of a rod is related to how well it bends correct? and the taper (fast, XF, etc) says where it bends right? And does extra fast imply a whippier tip? I'm rather infatuated with the ***, Im gonna go check them out at my Gander Mtn next week.
  8. I came across an interesting thought today. I was looking for a new reel for my new ML set up, and all I had in my cache was a large pike worthy spinning reel. That reel would have looked behemoth on that rod, not to mention unwieldy. So if you were to measure reels by their fit to a rod. How would you do it?
  9. For the swimbaits, use mono or braid. If you are fishing heavy cover, I'd say braid. If its fairly clean water then mono, tough mono of course. As far as poundage, it depends on the size of the bait. I'd say 10-20 max. Equivalent for braid as well. Jerkbaits, mono for the hardbaits. If it has treblehooks, you almost always want the stretch of mono. I'd say #6-#10 for the jerkbait in general. If its the soft jerkbaits I like to use fluoro or a fluoro leader with braid.
  10. That's a good rod. Know anything about the *** *** series? I hear they're on par with Loomis and Croix, but they're just $100...
  11. Absolutely! I use them whenever I can now. There is the d**n learning curve though. I think if you are taking the plunge, take another plunge and buy at least a $100 one, no less. I think for the most part this is where you start getting significantly better quality. Also, just crank up the brakes until you get the hang of it, and slowly turn them down as you learn. All the luck to you.
  12. Elite is softer and casts easier in my opinion. Seige is much tougher and is still a pretty good line. Elite is my go to mono, I use 12lb seige on my crank-caster, that's it.
  13. Howdy y'all, So I'm almost done with the semester, just dying to get out on the water!!!!! I'm so excited im gonna buy a new pole! I want a ML-M spinning rod. Probly 6-8lb mono or braid, want to toss those smaller cranks. Like those 1/8-1/4 x-raps and little cranks. I'd also like it to the rod between my Medium 7ft Carrot Stix and my lil UL. I've already got two Croixs. I want to try something new. I was looking at some Fenwicks (HMX and Eagle) and the newer Falcons. That new TFO tactical is really tempting too but I can't find any good deals anywhere.... My price cap is about $150 too. Also, I'm thinking this could also pose as a back up trout rod, if I take my friends with me to my trout pond. So what ya got for me!?!!
  14. So i went out this morning with some PMs and Meps, caught a little dinky fry, but im all hoping this was just bad luck? Wrong place, wrong time etc.
  15. Ok, that's what i was thinking of, as well as a wobbler spoon. How do you fish them? Is it a jig technique or just a cast and retrieve?
  16. I've swam out to get a snagged lure, about 8 feet deep water, warm water luckily enough. On another occasion, i someone lost the rod midcast... It splashed in the water, so i quickly reached over, to grab it, only then to flip the canoe with my tackle box open... So glad they were mostly floaters and a few jigs.
  17. So i'm from central IL, where for the most part, people stock trout and then they die in summer. My boss's friend has a private pond that he has stocked with trout, no i dont know what kind, sorry. He wants us to catch them and give them to him, im cool with this cuz i get to fish, and i have a bad case of fishing withdrawl right now. SOOO how on Earth do you fish for trout in a pond..? I'd say spoons on UL tackle? That;s just my best educated guess... I don't want to fly fish or anything, not competent enough at it yet. -Robert
  18. I figured it'd be on a shaky head bc of the skirt... That's a nice video, awesome that there is more. Stuff that should be on the internet! -Robert
  19. what's up yall! I was just at my local tackle shop looking for something to spend my cash on! found this: Any ideas how to rig this baby up? I'm guessing its a finesse thing, seeing as how small it is, but we're creative outdoors men, im sure we can come up with something fun. -Robert
  20. I have never had a torquing problem, but then again, i've only owned 2 baitcasters in my life. As for the line, i've tied a loop, then taped half of the loop down with electric tape. And then tied the line to the uncovered loop. A bit thorough maybe even a bit overboard, but havent had a prob since!had a prob since! -RR
  21. I want to know what line you use, when, how, etc. Tell me some characteristics of these lines. If you tell me you like this mono over another, say why. And be as SPECIFIC as possible please! This thread is for any line, Fluoro, Mono, Braid, Superlines, whatever. -Robert
  22. The only mono i have truly enjoyed using is the suffix elite, and that is in the lowest poundage, either 2 or 4 lbs. Use it on my UL set up. excellent shock resistance, never broke on me; yet enough stretch to be able to set the hook strongly.
  23. Excellent idea. So simple and that will probably solve my problem. No harm in trying either!
  24. I use a 6'6 MH baitcast set up with 65pp. I want to say my reel is a 6.3? It's the purple bps one. I dont think its the hooks, bc i've caught myself with them, and they are not dull!
  25. I have a similar question. I usually fish buzzbaits late at night, and im missing strikes! I usually set the hook immediately after the strike, and i lose the fish then. But when i wait a few seconds to set the hook, i usually end up losing the fish as im reeling it in. And I am 99% sure it's not me reeling it in, i keep good tension on the line when i reel. I just get frustrated with myself when i lose a fish! So close, but no cigar you know?
