  1. Oh, did you find it on the Flea Market? There is actually a Dobyns 806 Mike Long rod too. I'm a huge fan of Dobyns Rods (sponsorship) http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/145639-dobyns-806-and-powell-733/
  2. Hey guys, I'm in the market for a reel I can use for swimbaits and musky. Can one reel handle this task? Also more so as a side note, would there be a reason to buy a round reel vs a low profile? I'm more comfortable with lps than rounds.
  3. Thanks for the full on explanation! It does have some large bass, and I'm about to purchase a swimbait rod. Might have to invest in a rat swimbait
  4. http://www.***.com/Okuma_Guide_Select_Series_Big_Bait_Casting_Rods/descpage-OGSBBR.html There is actually one on the Flea Market now, i believe
  5. Would a musky rod suffice? I gather you are talking about the "Big Bait Rod"
  6. Gear? I'd probably throw it on a Med Mod Glass rod now, but a swimbait rod is in my future. These are soft plastic swimbaits right? Toss them with a weighted hook texposed or what?
  7. Amen man, it's all about the pursuit of knowledge.
  8. Glad you said swimbaits. I recently fished swimbaits this summer, kind of want to try it some more. Could you expand on what you do?
  9. Psssh if it was anyone, it'd be Brady's. Get a hold of yourself man!
  10. I'm actually planning on taking a lipless and a football out there this weekend. I'm afraid of catching a log or some branches with the lipless though.
  11. The wind was coming from the East. I understand how to "find the fish" in theory as mentioned above. It's just that I was fishing a structure lacking pond, at night haha. So wind is of the few I felt I could use. Also, it seems like beating the bank is the simplest and probably best thing to do next time.
  12. Define deep though, 6-8ft is the deepest i'd fish a squarebill, and that'd have to be around standing timber or something similar.
  13. Never really tried it, glad to hear I'm not alone. Is there anytime you'd pick a skirt over not having one?
  14. Nah man, hypothesize, experiment and then make those theories. Yeah, I didn't catch one where I expected, the not calm area.
  15. So I had a tournament this last week and our plan was to target grass lines and breaks etc. Well when we got there, grass wasn't so green! I know that dead grass has little fish compared to green grass. So I'd assume this meant that there was probably somewhere better to fish! If the fish are headed out of the grass, where would they go? I know this is a rather open ended question, but fire away! **This is grass on the openings of coves and around channel swings.**
  16. Can someone direct me to a few sites/articles/threads about fishing football jigs? Like basic 101? I know the tackle, just not the technique.
  17. If I wasn't out fishing, I was flipping/pitching into a trash can in my living room. Let's not forget about learning a multitude of things from this fine website.
  18. Anyone throw a Chatterbait, minus the skirt, plus a trailer? I saw an article on ***, curious, just want to hear the word on the street first. I'd probably through it with a BigBites CaneThumper or a RageCraw, depending on this and that.
  19. So just to follow up, I ended up throwing a chatterbait or spinnerbait the whole time. Although I did catch a missed buzzbait fish on a wacky rigged senko. A 10" bass has never made such a big splash O_o
  20. Pumping or yo-yo retrieving a swim jig is my go to "power fishing" alternative. I love it. Like you said when everyone is cranking or throwing spinnerbaits, I'll throw this and slow it down. Works on some severely pressured waters.
  21. With the lipless I like to rip it through grass and fish a stop and go retrieve. STAY AWAY from riprap, you'll lose it. Square bills are for shallow cover and banging around stumps, riprap, etc. I prefer a square bill, but lipless is warming up to me now
  22. You're talking to a guy that studies physics at one of the best universities in the world haha. I'm all about the theory of it. The main reason I asked this was bc wind was one of the few variables I could know before I got out there. There is little to no cover, and the depth changes are unknown.
  23. I totally follow you, and that's what I did that night. And I didn't catch a thing.
  24. So if size of the water matters, where would you draw the line?
  25. 1. Skipping Jigs- All Terrain Skip N Jig Jigs 2. Swim Jigs- Hack Attack Jig 3. Spinnerbaits-Booyah Top Secret 4. Topwater Pencils-GY Pencil Tate 5. Buzzbait-Cavitron all the way 6. Shakeyhead-Bizzbaits 7. Medium Diving Cranks- Rapala
