  1. Is it worth the investment? I was looking into doing it over winter break, but I got a job instead haha. Are the jigs you make going to be on par with the ones you buy and still be cost effective? I really have no knowledge on the matter. I'd figure that most people just make their own to keep themselves busy and have custom colors.
  2. I'm excited for these two. Fishing Table Rock in April, hope I can get them by then! haha
  3. x2 I also tend to use a T-rig over a shakeyhead for grassy cover and dissecting cover. If there is gravel and clear water, it's time for a shakeyhead.
  4. If you are fishing open water with dt6-10s, you should get the 7'8" MH. You'll definitely get more distance with the moderate/slow glass rods. That *** would make a fine squarebill rod.
  5. Only time it matters to me is when I buy reel grips.
  6. There was a post/poll a while back if you are interested in looking it up. It was a close race between mono and fluoro, mono winning out in the end. And I personally use 10-12# Yo-zuri
  7. BB1 is great, I'll caution you that the only difference with the pro is the external dial, so if you use a lot of different sized baits, you'd want the pro. I have the 7'4" M "Crankster" and I wish I had the MH. The rod is a bit heavy, and it handles fish well. My one problem is it loads too much when reeling in a DT-6 and the rod goes crazy when bumping a squarebill. I'd think the MH would solve some of those problems. As far as the length, if you are on a boat, go for the longer one. If you are a CQB guy then the 7' will be more wieldy. That's my $.02
  8. I cannot attest to that certain Powell, but I can say Powell is a great rod company. I do think Dobyns makes the better rod, and that rod right there was made for tubes and hairjigs. I'd caution you to look at what weights you are gonna throw and decide if you want the 701sf instead (just a heads up, the 701 is a bit whippier). Not to mention Dobyns has a trade up program, so if you do ever want to upgrade to the Extreme, it's at a great price.
  9. I've come across a REALLY good deal on a 500yd spool of FC. I've always bought the smallest spools and usually on a need basis, usually changing my line 2 or 3 times a season. I always figure with lines with memory issues, mono or fluoro, a big spool is just gonna sit and coil up and not be pleasant to deal with. Is this true?
  10. I use a Revo Toro Winch NaCl for big ol toothy Muskie. I'd def opt for the BB2 over the BB1, and if they make long runs like you said, get the wide spool. I've also heard from several people, who service reels, and a certain someone at a reel company in Missouri, that the part are "very similar".
  11. So what's your favorite general cranking line, if your lines vary just say why. And include your poundage!
  12. I have a collegiate deal with dobyns and I've talked to them regularly about this kind of rod. For dropshots and shakyheads, I was recommended a 702 over a 701. For what it's worth haha
  13. I use yellow (FC leader) on my finesse spinning rod,and green on my frog rod. Never seen blue before, had red when I was younger cuz it was cool haha.
  14. Alright. So I've given it a fairly thorough cleaning and oiling, and peeled off a fair bit of line. The reeling is fine now, but there is still drag when I cast, especially at the end. I've turned downed the centrifugal brakes almost all the way (The birds nests help me peel off line haha). And the friction brake isn't high or anything.
  15. Beavers, wacky rigs and finesse jigs are what I use primarily
  16. I might do just that if I can't figure it out. But I'm eager to learn something new this next few days I have off from work.
  17. Hey y'all, I have an Okuma Helios that needs some maintenance. Where to start.... Problem: It doesn't reel smoothly, lots of friction, it doesn't click or anything. Tried: I gave it a quick cleaning and grease/lube job, didn't really help anything. What else can I do?
  18. Hey guys! I'll be in Central Kentucky this Spring Break, around March 21st! Throw me some ideas as to what I can do in 1-2 days (we are talking fishing related) under $500.
  19. I've yet to have a good freeze over here, not that there is any good ice anyway. I'm surprised no one said muskie fishing haha, that's probably what I will do. I ended up cleaning out my garage today and shoveling snow... Guess it's time to buy fishing stuff to celebrate my daily accomplishments!
  20. I just get too amped and then it's torture. I've spent the last hour flipping into a trash can with my new flippin stick
  21. Winter has finally hit me. No more fishing here. What do you guys do now...
  22. Thread asked "for the money", and if you want to spend a fair amount, I believe sniper is better, especially considering its a bit cheaper and that's what's asked. I also found that tatsu got more kinks than sniper, but i Will say I have fished sunline more than tatsu.
  23. I've had less lost fish and less line breaks with Sniper. I've also only really used fluoro for jigs and finesse stuff. Rarely moving baits. I'd assume that I can sniper has a lower stretch, therefore the reason I've had more hookups.
  24. If no one minds, I have a brief tangential question: Why not copoly? When wouldn't you use coply (don't say frogging on the BigO)? What are it's main ddisadvantags?
  25. So lines like Sunlines Reaction FC will have less sensitivity than others at the quality point. Its marketed with having a little more stretch for moving baits.
