I think it depends a lot on the presentation your wanting to have. If you want a big bulky presentation I will put on something like a grass pig made by havoc or any big boot tail. But for a more finesse style a single tailed grub works good

Usually its awful weather for me because then I just spend more time looking at tackle and it just goes down hill from there

bass pro has their graphite series muskie rods for sale right now for 40$ and free shipping. I know your thinking its crazy but muskie rods work well for swimbaits especially since your just starting out its inexpensive and a good rod.

For 189 to 200 bucks I think its a pretty sweet looking rod
