I use to use shrimp and cast to the backs of sand bars for them on the west coast of Florida, they fight like freight trains!!

Ya 10 pound drum or 30 pound cats dont break our line off in Kansas LOL I caught a pike in Wisconsin once and didnt know what the heck to do with it!!!! I use 10 to 20 pound braid and a 10 to 15 pound floro leader most of the time.

Thats how my dad taught us was to close it by hand so I never questioned it, my guess would be its not as hard on the reel to do it by hand.

This may explain a lot of what I have seen on my FF near the dam, it is so thick on my FF with fish in 30-40 feet it looks like you could walk on them, Sizzle and I threw spoons, neds and went back and fourth several times with no luck. another boat worked the same spot with nota. I went back out there with my son and we tried crawlers and chicken livers thinking maybe they where cat-fish stacked up and nothing bit. Thoughts?
