  1. Thanks for the reply. I didn't see your post, sorry. I just figured I would let people know.
  2. I just saw that Tackle warehouse had the T3's and T3 ballistics on sale for 50% off. I'm adding a T3 to my christmas list. What are you all's opinion on these reels?
  3. Like aavery said they are made by quantum now. I had one about 5 years ago, I think they were made by Penn then but not sure. it was a great reel for 60 dollars.
  4. Thanks for the replies and info. A few others fishing caught fish on docks with a drop shot. And we didn't throw a Carolina rig but I did try a crank bait for a while. If I go again soon I will prob try a Carolina rig though.
  5. I fished a tournament there yesterday and it was tough. My partner and I didn't catch a fish after 930. We catching the fish on drop shot on rip rap banks. Anybody catching them on anything different or in different areas?
  6. It happened in one tournament for me and my partner. We threw everything at them that catching a few small ones but no keepers. Then with 30 minutes left in the tournament we figured out that throwing a senko to the fish guarding fry on the bank would produce and caught 3 in those 30 minutes. We also missed a few more. That wasn't a fun tournament. We even pre-fished and caught a few keepers only a couple days before. We only fished for like 3 or 4 hours a few days before. But the fish changed in those few days and we couldn't figure the out.
  7. My boat is 16.5 feet and I take it on Smith mountain lake all the time and it does well. It can be a rough ride over all the wakes on a busy day but it handles them fine and i have crossed many big wakes up to 4 feet in it and it wasn't fun but it handled it. I have fished with 3 people in it a few times and it wasn't uncomfortable. The only problem i have had is that I want a bigger boat.
  8. there is a lot of good fishing around the state park. There are many coves where you can get away from the wakes near the boat ramp. If you were kayaking at night try throwing a thunder stick, as keith71 said, on the point with the red flashing light (channel marker) nearest the boat ramp. I have caught many bass there at night. Also I have good luck with a shaky head during the day around the rip rap at the state park. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
  9. I have a st. croix Rage spinning rod and I really like it. I have a a few others in that price range also but I like how it handles better than the others.
  10. I can't speak for the other rods but, the St. Croix Rage rods are awesome. I think they are worth the extra money because they are so light and sensitive.
  11. I like this idea but, my girlfriend might not.
  12. I find it a lot easier to do with spinning gear and you get heavier gear for heavier lures. I prefer spinning gear so I don't have to worry about backlashes and its a lot easier to learn on in my opinion.
  13. I'm not sure of the model you are talking about but I bought one a few years ago and I have loved it ever since. IMO kistler rods are really good rods and definitely competitive with other rods in their price range.
  14. i have a 6' 9'' ML abu garcia vendetta and you can't beat it for the price. I bought a 7' 0'' ML GSX X-Factor last year and it is pretty sweet too. If i were to get a different one it would be a ML action over 6' 6''.
  15. I want to get a new baitcaster rod this spring and was wondering which would be a better choice for a MH action rod. I haven't heard much about the Cashion brand but heard they were awesome.
  16. Thats cool, you did a great job on it.
  17. Thanks for the info vapredhunter.
  18. I am curious like OneFisher85. What were you using? and what part of of the lake are you on? I fish the roanoke river and usually stay between the state park and indian point. i usually use a tube during the day and a thunderstick at night.
  19. I have heard stories about 8 foot cats. one nght my friend and I were bass fishing with topwater baits and he caught a 3 foot long catfish because he landed it and i held it up to my waist and its tail was touching the boat and i'm 6'3".
  20. Occasionally when a rod or reel is on sale and i think it is a good deal but not very often. But very seldom do i go into a store and not get a feww baits because i thik they will work or look cool.
  21. I have 2 and I'm pretty sure they are both sx's. I paid 170 for both. I like both of them but I also hav a curado and its in the sameprice range and i like it more than the revos. Jus my opinion.
  22. What has helped me a lot while fishing for any fish is pay attention to what you are doing when a fish hits your lure. Is it just sitting there? How fast are you reeling? where is the lure in the water, on the bottom, top or somewhere on the between? Is the fish around structure or just out in the middle of nowhere? Once you have figured it out you can use this info on your future casts. So overall i would say learn from what you did right. But of course you can learn from your mistakes but i find when i'm not catching fish i just learn to change lures. I have heard many fisherman tell me this piece of advice.
  23. I agree with Bass Ninja, the V series rods are great. I also a vendetta, it is a 6' 9" ML spinning and its as sensitive as comparable $100+ rods so I would say the Venganance is even better. I really want the new Villain rod, it sells for $180. I bet its sweet.
  24. I haven"t fished either one lately but have heard of real big ones in briary and have seen 10 lb. bass come from sandy at a tournament weighin there. multiple 5 lb.+ bass came from sandy that day. I dont what the were using but i wish i did. So both have big bass in them. Good luck! Hope to see some pics of some 10lbers.
  25. I went this afternoon and into tonight but did not wait around for the night bite. But I caught 10 fish today all around 1 lb. to a pound and a half and one 3 and a half. All of them came off a tube. It was hard for me to change and throw something else and i couldn't do it but hopefully friday i will try a swim bait or the A-rig.
