Get a good rod and reel set up for the rig and its not bad at all .I fished the wrong set up last year and it was work .Now I've got a rig rod and reel its no different than throughing a big spinner bait.I'll have it with me if you care to cast it about you can it'll change your mind I believe.

I determine what size by depth I'm fishing 1/4 3-7 foot 1/2 7-13 foot 3/4 anything deeper than 13 foot I use the 1/4 just like a rattle trap .1/2 just like a spinner bait and 3/4 just like a c-rig I fish them with a super salty fluke white in color only .Haven't change baits much because I always get bit with them.

I personally bought four colors from seven or eight company's different weights and colors and colored blades so I can honestly say I had never even seen one work before I spent a couple hundred bucks. Sure you can get some to try but I know they work its proven spend what you want on tackle if he buys just one I bet he catches fish then he spends a hundred bucks. By the way my favorite is a phenix vibrating jig in watermelon black flake with black blade in 3/8 oz. Because the braid will slip on the spool an cause missed hook sets if you don't. My spools are solid so you can't tie thru them . You can also put a wrap of tape on the spool to prevent this.

Steady retrieve I upgraded to a 7'11" crucial rod in MH swim bait rod get you a rig with some small blades on it . I like Keitech fat swing impact in 4.8" in blue gill flash with a good 1/4 or 1/8 heads depending on depth I am fishing. I like to use it when bait is present but I have now caught fish where there was none. Tip is you graph fish with no bait around make the rig stay in contact with the structure. I have a 6.4 to 1 reel 28 " per turn with 80# braid .Go ahead and buy a rig retriever you'll need it.Also be sure to put backing on your reel it stinks when you set the hook and the line just spins and your reel.
