  1. I have played with the 805CB for deeper cranks, it is a great rod, never seems like it is as long as it is because of the superior balance for a rod on its length. Made throwing and working deeper cranks fun.
  2. KVD Sexy Dawg H20 Slush Daddy Berkley Havoc Beat Shad, not as good as the Keitech, but more durable, easy to get and less expensive Zman Finesse TRD
  3. Tie an arbor knot and spool up, why overthink it?
  4. Polishing the inside of the pinion, and the ends of the spool shaft seem to help. There are also some places that you could play with polishing to help with a smoother and more positive engagement. Short answer, Yes.
  5. This thread made me want to modify an old 5000, so I got a nice one from a friend and did some work on it. I did all the normal stuff, bearing cog wheel, dual bearing level wind, replaced the bushings on the spool with bearings, replaced the crankshaft bushing with a bearing and upgraded the drag washers to carbon tex. I also replaced the stock handle with this 100mm carbon fiber job. I polished, oiled and cleaned everthing, took it outside and made a few casts with a 3/8oz weight on 12lb test P-line CX, and it blew my mind how smooth and how far this thing was capable of. The rod I was using is an old St.Croix 6'6" Pro Glass MH/M. Anyway if anyone else is sitting on the fence about these mods, I highly recommend them.
  6. Nah, just havin a little fun, Congrats.
  7. That will get it done. Might take a look at the VMC Spinshot, they are a little cheaper and prevent line twist well.
  8. Why is your girlfriend going to marry a dog?
  9. So which one is it that is giving you the problems?
  10. IMX is where they start show what they have to offer.
  11. I'm trying to get a size perspective, were the Mustad's you were using the 570's
  12. Both very good but If I had to listen to 1 album over and over it would be IV
  13. I use to pass by Sooner a couple of times a week, but have not been by there since this summer. I know there are some large fish in lake, and they catch them from time to time. Good luck
  14. What's you goto deep water jerkbait?
  15. I have a bunch of Rapala's in the clown color, but have had better luck with the LC Nishiki (bottom middle), not sure if it is the bait or the difference in color but the LC works for me.
  16. Funny, we were having the same conversation at lunch, the guys told me to skip Sooner and hit Hudson or Tenkiller
  17. I believe they are the same rod as the Skeet Reese rods just in a different color. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think they are W & M rods.
  18. I experienced a little inconsistency in their baits during the initial release, I had a heck of a time trying to tune a few of them. During lunch I had a few errands to run, so I stopped by the tackle shop and picked up a Pro Blue and a French Pearl, I look forward to giving them another go. Thanks for sharing.
  19. You doing anything to modify the baits, or do you find that they suspend good out of the box?
  20. Exactly the same but different
  21. Good post, I would add that the lighter the gear you fish, the better your equipment needs to be. Your line, your hooks, your rod and reels, all need to be in tip top shape. Small nicks in your line, cheap hooks that are not sharp or bend easily, a rod or reel in disrepair, can all spell disaster on light tackle. Light gear pushes fishing and your gear to an extreme, maintain your rods and reels and use good quality tackle and it had the possibility to be very rewarding.
  22. I bought several of these when they first came out, I was having a heck of a time trying to tune them. Might have to purchase a few and try again. Do you do anything to yours to get them to suspend differently?
  23. Some good choices there RW
  24. Careful, you are dating yourself, next thing you know you will be talking about Pioneer Supertuners, Jensen Tri Axials, and 8 track tapes.
