  1. Im sure its gonna be a while, but I will. lol
  2. OK, dont piece a stringer, thanks for that, I thought myself that it was a weird idea. Just to further that info he told me, he said that as long as its a small section, when you glue it in and glass over it, its solid. I still thought it was not a good idea myself. I really want to do this just to be able to say I built my first boat.
  3. Thanks, but no thanks buddy. This was a wedding present from my wife, and after talking to Check Mate, I have quite the collectable on my hands. Nothing is impossible, I built my first car when I was in high school, no reason I cant build my first boat. I think the info Ive gooten from people here is going to help me big time, and this thing is gonna be just the way I want it.
  4. My all around bank fishing rig has 20# YoZuri, but we have snakeheads. If I were you, go with the 12#, thats what I use on my 50E. This stuff is amazingly strong. Puts all other lines to shame.
  5. Well the cap doesnt come off. A buddy of mine at the firehouse said you dont have to replace the whole stringer if you dont have to. He also gave me the name of a great supply company to get all my fiberglass and resin and bonding products. Im gonna start getting the livewell and side storage out that are glassed into the back deck. Then I can remove the gas tank. Once all that is clear, I can start taking the floor away to see what Im looking at with the stringer set up. The ideas of stabilizing are great. I may just take the boat off the trailer. Good thing itbweighs nothing, just the motor.
  6. So basically, provide some outside support and stabilization as to not let the hull move in any direction.
  7. I love his livewell. Good use of the old bathtub, lol
  8. Try Zoom Lizards, I find even if I fish my canal everyday, they cant resist them.
  9. So as long as I do one stringer at a time, I should be ok? This is gonna all be done while the boat is on the trailer.
  10. seems like everytime I go to Bass Pro, someone will stop me and say "I hate to bother you, but you look like you know what you are doing", and then I help them with whatever they need. Then my wife asks me why I spent soo long in the store, and of course she thinks Im lying to her when I tell her.
  11. So as I reassess the floors in the boat, it looks like im gonna have to rip the stringers out and replace them too. Any advice on a good way to go about it. Reminder its a '76 Check Mate Bassmate 16.5ft, Fiberglass hull, with fiberglass all on the inside.
  12. Also, if you use a thicker diameter braid, it helps with control and it doesnt dig as much. For instance, 65# Spiderwire is a 12# dia, vs 30# which is 6# dia. Thicker is easier to manage. If your gonna fish 6# dia, might as well use a spinning rod. And for DVT, it was Cross Web Technology, I have an original Mitchell sc30 Spidercast, loved them back in the day.
  13. Im hooked on BPS Magna Widegap Superlocks, havent failed me yet, price is amazingly cheap, I dont mind losing them if I have to.
  14. Topwater baits. Frogs, plastic and hollow. Spooks, poppers, jitterbugs. I like to hit that afternoon 6pm-8pm bite, and if I cant sleep, that 11pm to 1 am bite.
  15. In the long run its worth it. If you want aomething to perform right everytime you use it, its gomna cost you. This reel will out perform most reels costing over $200, and its not that much for what you get. If someone asked me if I could only have 1 reel for the rest of my life, my 200E7 would be it.
  16. I mostly use 1 rig I have specifically for that. Its a Revo SX, on a 7' Vendetta with 20# YoZuri. Usually its a texas rigged softbait on a 3/0 wide gap and a 1/8 oz bullet weight. I usually use a 6" lizard or a vibra worm. Its a good all around setup to use just about any soft plastic on. Also carry an assortment of cranks, spinners, jigs and plugs in my Spiderwire tackle backpack. Also in there is a folding net, scale, KVD L&L, pliers, many bags of different soft plastics, a reel cleaning kit, camera, scissors, hand wipes sunblock, hooks, weights, etc. Its a great bag.
  17. Some days its just tough fishing, so you always want to try and get limit first. Once you can say I have 5 alive, or whatever limit is, then you can concentrate on that tedius flipping and pitching and jigging for the mule in the grass.
  18. nah, I personally dont like really long rods. I use a lot of 6'6 and 7'. I think the accuracy is better. I have no problems with hooksets or control.
  19. Pretty much most of the newer reels that are priced over $100 are able to handle braid. Stay away from cheap reels. Most reels now come with a titanium or alum oxide guide, aluminum spool, and metal frames.
  20. Find a Curado 200E7 online and put it on a MH 7 ft rod with some 65# braid. If you want to save a little $ for the rod, the Berkley Lightning Shock is an excellent choice.
  21. Isnt everything a pain to get treble hooks out of? Haha
