  1. The screws are in fiberglass, not wood. I have to fill in the holes, so epoxy will be better? After I have all the holes filled in and sanded down, and the carpeting removed with all the old glue off, Im going to have the boat repainted. Just want to make sure that whatever I fill the holes in with is going to be ok for the paint to stick to.
  2. Ive got plenty of time with the boat. My goal is to get it in the water by August. The wooden thing is soo tedius, but if its the only option i guess it will have to do. Any other suggestions? Like a bondo for fiberglass?
  3. I remember using that color when I was a kid for worms. Almost forgot about that color since I use alot of watermelon combos for my lizards. Might have to dig and see if I still have some around.
  4. BPS Pro Qualifier, best bang for the buck, especially for a first reel. You will be able to abuse and use that reel for many years to come.
  5. Its in great shape, the original owner kept it covered in a carport. It just needs some TLC, and a new paint job. Im gonna recarpet it too.
  6. Im going to have to do a similar thing with my boat, but the holes are from a railing that I am no longer going to use. I can not fill the hole from the inside out, will it work from the outside? Do I just sand it down flush? Can itbe easily painted?
  7. Ok, so I want to paint my boat. What does the average bass boat cost to paint? Im going to gut the boat, remove all carpeting, fill in all unwanted screw holes, remove unwanted railings. I dont want a fancy metal flake job. Just a dark grey bottom, ad a light grey top. Im looking for a car type of look for the paint job. Any ideas?
  8. Its a 76 Checkmate Bassmate. The metal tank is all rusty, and rather change it than take a chance.
  9. I think a BPS Pro Qualifier and a Berkley Lightning Rod would be the best for you. Both would be about $150 with the tax. Good quality products that wont fail you. I own both products, so I know they are well woth the $.
  10. Ive been using the YoZuri on a few of my setups. I always used Spiderwire Stealth Braid for my rigs, but this Hybrid line is AMAZING!
  11. Ok, so the project begins on my boat, but I want to know if they make any kind of books that show you all the wiring/how to work on the boat. For instance, how to remove the gas tank on my boat to install another one?
  12. Some pics of the boat. Its a '76 Check Mate Bassmate. 85 Evenrude. Plans are to rip out all the carpeting and lay down some dark grey. Fill in the old holes for all the railings. Remove all the hatches and refiberglass all the holes to make my own and remount them. Paint the hatches red. Remount the seats. Paint the top portion of the boat a dark grey, and the bottom black, with a red pinstripe around the edge of the boat. There is a small area in the front of the boat under the lip that has been patched, and is going to get repatched the right way.
  13. I didnt cook it. One of the guys at the Snakehead Roundup did, he fried it. Taste like chicken (no kidding). Very moist and tender. Good stuff for such an ugly fish.
  14. Im always an avid "take the thing apart and lube it yourself person". By that I mean, even if I buy a brand new reel, Im going to flush out the spool bearings and lube them myself. Personally I like my bearings a little on the wet side. If I ever need to replace the stock bearings, then I may upgrade, but thats never been an issue since I take care of my stuff. I wouldnt say what DVT does to reels as far as this super tuning is a waste. Its like wether you want to put a K&N air filter and an exhaust pipe on your car. Is it gonna help? Probobly, but that noticable? To the enthusiest yes, to a regular Joe Schmo, maybe not that much.
  15. Shimano Bantam Citica which I recently sold. I bought when I was about 12 and determined to fish one, just like they did on TV. Been an addiction ever since!
  16. Most braid loses color fast. KVD L&L helps, also I take a blask Sharpie and color the 6 ft from the lure to help hide the line.
  17. I keep a pair of cutting pliers with me at all time when fishing due to hooking the gut or gills. Its a small price to buy a decent pair to help save a fishes life. I feel its a civic duty if I want to keep fishing.
  18. No I dont own a NEW boat, but my wife bought me my own bass boat for a wedding present. Its gonna need a little work, but the foundation is solid. Its. 16.5 foot older model, and its got some wood accents (which to me is cool). A horrible fiberglass patch job just under the front lip, like someone hit something. I will be using this thread now to help me along the way, and will be enjoying it every bit of the way. Its going to be like when I built my 88 5.0 Mustang in High School. I sure know how to pick'em!
  19. Both are good. Suffix is made by Rapala, Power Pro by Shimano.
  20. Thats funny, Im going to Dinsey World this weekend for my honeymoon. I wish I could fish there I dont really have any advice for you, just saw the post and thought to myself, IF ONLY. Then I would be deballed.
  21. Good to hear. I too am in Paramedics and yes it does help to enjoy fishing while going over things that I need to know in my head. For some reason it always helps me to relax my mind and soak up life.
  22. I do a lot of bank.fishing. and usually try to fish different canals every time I go out. I basically start in a spot and fish the whole 180 of where im standing. Then move down past where I cast and repeat. Cover as much water as possible.
