Pelican Bass Raider 8
Was wondering if anyone had any experience with this little pontoon boat? I have a guy wanting to sell me one for $150, with a minkota trolling motor. I do not have a boat, and have never had anything that floats, even. So, my concern is the weight capacity. Im a 230lb guy, but my brother-in-law whom I always fish with is 260-70. The weight capacity on the specs are only rated for 500 lbs of cargo total. However, Ive heard mixed reports that two big guys can fit on it without issue. Even the guy selling it, whom sees to be honest, says him and a friend would use it all the time. Anyone have any experience with it? If not I'm willing to take the chance to get out on the water for only $150 Mark

Jerkbaits And Cranks. Why Cant I Catch Fish?
Thanks for the info. I'll have to give that a try. My most confident bait at the moment is without a doubt a bad shad colored skinny dipper on a gamakatsu weighted swimbait hook. Ive caught more fish with that than anything. So, next time im ripping them out, ill switch to a crank right away. I checked out the shad rap. Loving what I see. I think both the bluegill and baby bass, and maybe even the silver would work well in my lakes.

Jerkbaits And Cranks. Why Cant I Catch Fish?
Thanks for the correction nitro. The lake is man made so it is pretty consistent ground wise. I ony know of one area that has a few foot incline. I was thinking of investing in a vision 110 to see if I increase my jerkbait chances. Good idea or another brand I should try before I bite the $25 bullet?

Jerkbaits And Cranks. Why Cant I Catch Fish?
Hey all. Thanks for all of the advice. I'll try to answer as many questions as possible. To start, the water has only about 1-3 feet of visibility depending on the area. There's is very little structure to the lake (read: none) except the occasional small log I'll pull up thinking its a turtle I nicked with a hook lol. The only crank bait I've ever gotten bites on is my medium diving black with red flecks one. I can't recall the brand. However. I do have 2 square bill bombers. Shallow diving. One in a brown and chartreuse craw and the other in a shad color. I also have a jointed Rapala in a greenish color. My tackle isn't with me so I'm doing this by memory. I have a few more. I have noticed, though, the lack of fish other than bass and catfish in the lake. I began to use baits that matched baby bass and noticed an extreme increase in bites, though this is on plastics and lipless cranks.

Jerkbaits And Cranks. Why Cant I Catch Fish?
Hey all, Been practicing different fishing techniques these past few weeks, and my two biggest problem areas seem to be jerkbaits and lipped cranks. I seem to have decent ability at fishing traps, but slap a lip on the crank and I can't seem to get a bite. I have gone through several color patterns (home lake is muddy, btw), diving depths, etc, and nothing seems to work! Same goes for jerkbaits. I have countless jerkbaits but have NEVER caught a fish on one! I vary my twitching, reeling and pausing from a slow crawl to fast and furious vandam style. Still can't seem to get em to hit. Any helpful insight you guys can offer me? Thanks as always!

Micro Guides, Leaders
It was my first time buying braid, so I was afraid the smaller diameter would give me trouble casting, so I just went with 12lb equivalent.

Micro Guides, Leaders
Today I tied up a leader on my 65# braid and noticed it hangs in the micro guides sometimes. I use the slimmest line to line knot I know, the modified albright. Any suggestions? Also, what # fluro should I be using with 65# braid? I was using 17# today, too much?

Rapala Knot?
Check out the Berkeley braid knot. Fairly simple and strongest I've seen

Best Braid?
In your opinion, whats the best all around, affordable braid (smooth casts, doesn't dig, least amount of wind knots)?

Okuma Cayenne Drag Settings
Heavier baits help the reel out immensely. I'm talking 3/8 and above. I find even 1/4 is challenging. Again, I'm comparing it to my Lews SS and I'd take another SS any day of the week.

Okuma Cayenne Drag Settings
So, I picked up a cayenne from the flea market board this week, and just gave it my second go around. I put it on a 7'2" MHF rod, and I'm having some serious issues with it! It backlashes like mad, and I can't seem to get good distance at all. Its only my second baitcaster, so I'm comparing it to my Lews Speed Spool. I have the SS on a 6'9" MF rod and it casts so much smoother, and further. The cayennes breaks just don't seem right. 0 is too little, yet 2 (the next step up for okumas break system) seems too much. I keep the spool tension just tight enough to stop the spool from moving side to side, like always. Both are spooled with 10lb P-Line CXX. Any advice?

Tackle Storage
Some great ideas all around Thanks all

Tackle Storage
Was wondering how you all stored soft plastics? I find I have a ton of soft plastics, and currently I've been keeping them in the bags they come in, separated into types, worms, creatues, etc in freezer bags. However, still seems to take up a ton of room. Any better ideas? What about putting them in airtight tackle storage containers?

Lake Osborne 01-30-12
Awesome! Going back tomorrow around 7am or so with my brother-in-law. Picked up a new reel and a few new plastics. By chance, I found a football head terminator black/blue jig that I got for a buck. Will give that a shot for sure. Guy at gander mountain said hes had a lot of luck with brilliant red colors in Osborne, especially lizards and 10" culprits. So, I got some of those.

Lake Osborne - Florida
Hey all, Went out to Osborne on Saturday. Tried several different spots from the main lake down to the church lake. Got a few head shakers but mostly skunked. Was still a blast! Noticed that most areas had a bunch of **** gunky black grass on the bottom. Also, went out to Challenger park that same day and fished the lake off the little pier they have. Darkest and deepest water I've seen yet. Skunked there as well! I was fishing senkos, rattle traps, and cranks. No luck weightless, t-rigged, or wacky with the senkos. Was using black, purple, blue, tried some orange as well. Never fear, Im going back out on Tuesday morning!

Opinions On These Reels
Thanks for the info. I figured the curado would be the best. BPS has the pro qualifier on sale for $90, so maybe I'll pick that up first. Also, i hear the Lew's Laser Speed Spool MG was a good reel, is there any truth in that? Its their bottom line reel, pretty much.

Opinions On These Reels
Hey all, Was looking for a few opinions on some reels. I've been looking to invest in 2 baitcasters in different price ranges. BPS Pro Qualifier vs Abu Garcia Orra Okuma Serrano vs Shimano Curado 50e And, if I only could get ONE of the 4, which be the best "all around" reel? Thanks

Lake Osborne - Florida
Sorry, yes. I meant the two areas you two mentioned. Didn't want to create another post asking for Osborne spots since I saw this one. I'm new to fishing, and I've never been to Lake Osborne. I'm excited so I wanted to line up some great spots to try. Thanks for the info.
