  1. SMB & rocks. For some reason.
  2. SMB are a SCHOOLING GROUP of fish. They act that way normally. How ever The wacky weather this year has caused warmer shallows & SOME weed beds to cause erratic feeding patterns . The Great lakes are massive areas to find & track / keep up with their food supplies. Throttle plate is right. Loaners who can not keep up with the school of fish ? DO act just like a LMB. Stay put until death takes them. They become very structure minded. I have ALWAYS caught the giant loan females in a perfect ambush spot with current going past her. It brings food to her. a quick lunge & she is fed. Open water requires a bottom terrain map. Lots of driving around. And a CALENDER to record catches. My schools when moving to another spot. DO NOT stop to hit my lures. I follow . Then connect when they stop and search.
  3. I go right to seeing how easily the point starts to penetrate the tough skin of my palm. A fish's gums & mouth skin tissue is tough also. I have always had the most treble hook points dug in when they are the thin black wire type of hooks. Crushed down barbs. I may take the mini Harbor freight grinder and grind off all the bulge of the crushed down barbs. on 4 & ^ # test mono not much pull is left. BUUTT We are talking about a few thousands of a inch pushing on tough grilse & bone. Edit......I think I MIGHT have had 1 ....1.5 " Rapala lure fully in the mouth. They are just all hook nippers. Might try a long tail hook to see if that increases hook ups into mouth tissue. Trolling does help in more of the hook ups for some reason. I no longer stop the boat. I allow the boat motion to keep line tension with my reeling on the 4# test stuff.
  4. You were supposed to kiss him. Any wish would come true.
  5. I have been fishing the same bay for 40 ? years. Do you think I MIGHT have caught the same fishes more than 3 times ? I HAVE caught & released the same pike in the same spot several times. I have watched him grow up to a nice size. Then turn up at someone's dinner.
  6. Catch & release DOES WORK.
  7. Agree TOTALLY with a fish comming straight at the boat. It has been caught & released BEFORE & Many times. Knows when thing Heads for a object...... AND has a thin line between itself & the object ??? Watch this guys. ???
  8. I believe there is no comparison between SMB & a Large mouth bass when speed & duration are compared in their feeding attacks.
  9. Am I the only one to repoint them with a very fine stone ?
  10. ALL my fish are the fastest ones. I use 4# test. ?
  11. Opening day of stocked trout season in N J . Narrow creek off of the big Delaware River. Cast my 3 corn kernels & split shot in. I set the hook & the speed demon covers about 200' in 1.5 seconds. I am just standing there amazed as it races back the other way. I Release a beautiful MALE 16" carp. Fantastic speed demon.
  12. I have a couple of lures with no hooks on them. From 1.5" to 6" long. I use them as searching & attractors when kids are gettting to few at a time. I Have not been able to retrieve faster than SMB. Pike or most perch. Others I can outrun. The real fun is fresh cut bait tied onto the line with no hook. Just heavy enough split shot to make casts. I have caught enough fish in my lifetime ? .
  13. If there is ..........ANY WAY............those bass & bait can LEAVE the lake ? They will. My Delaware River & Delaware Canal are VERY DEAD, all thru the deep winter. I do go down to where the fresh and salt water meet. Lots of fish to bite my Rapalas.
  14. First year in decades that I brought back to winter N J a rod & 4# test reel. Will pick up a small Rapala floater. And a Muddler Minnow for a fly only stream.
  15. At 83 I know much better about the pain I would cause family & friends by drowning. Or becoming a speechless bed person.
  16. We will need sworn affidavits from the fish stating. I just could not stop myself. I saw the hooks & line.
  17. Temperature seems most important to the feeding cycle in my bay area. August is before sunrise to about 9 o clock. Stop and eat a breakfast.
  18. Perch bait Perch bait 1.5" Rapala.....................With perch bait. ?
  19. I like it when after a rain & it is still windy & cloudy. My biggest & longest feeding sessions.
  20. Do you need a fishing co-angler ? ? We have the BAIT !!
  21. My version of a reaction bite is several fish biting a lure on a August sunny 3 PM day. Lure on the surface or 8' down.............. Have caught NOTHING for previous hours. Loads of all sized fish on the screen. Suspended fish are not very Reactive.
  22. I just saw a oldie Bronson. Green with every thing in the right places. But were they made during 1950 ?
  23. Jitterbug and a lure from 70 years ago. It was all plastic 1/4" diameter X 2.5" long . had 2 small plastic blades at head. Spun on a wire shaft. Treble at tail. Had a dark green bass color. I was swatting mosquitoes & catching bass until it was boring. Reel was green anodized Aluminum with a level winder. Fantastic. ?
  24. Smallest I have is a 3" SMB and LMB on the 1 1/2" Rapala Perch color.
  25. We import any & every bird. fish and land animal that anyone wants to have. Snakefish are known to bring good luck to Asians. So California sells live ones to buyers.
