  1. I think I will either get the Fenwick or the St. Croix but I am not sure yet. Which size reel would you guys recommend?
  2. I am going to get a Shimano Stradic CI4 and a rod but I am not sure which yet. I am looking to spend about $200 and want a rod for weightless plastics and drop shot. What rod and which size reel would you recommend?
  3. I use the Netbait paca chunks for jig trailers but the claws seem to tear off very easily. Sometimes only after 1 fish.
  4. Yea uni knot is the best never slips. My 80# braid snaps before the knot slips.
  5. Nice another person in San Diego. Lake hodges in Escondido pretty much sucks, if you have a boat you might be able to get a few fish, people do report several 10 pounders a week. San Diego river is supposed to be good but I have never fished it. Pretty much all the lakes suck except El Capitan. Barret Lake is good also but is only opened May-September and costs $80. Lake San Marcos is great but is private. Freshwater fishing isn't popular because it pretty much sucks. I suggest you fish the bays for Spotted bay bass. Use a 3 inch Big Hammer swimbait on a 3/8oz head. Also don't know if this is aloud but these are two good forums. http://www.oceanicangler.com/ http://www.sdfish.com/ The first one isn't for only San Diego but everything on there is from San Diego. In the summer I suggest you go out on a 1/2 boat and fish for calico bass. Fish swim baits with weedless heads right on top of the kelp.
  6. Ok one more question, are jigs fishable from the shore? I mean I know I can but is it worth it or should i fish something else?
  7. Wow you guys are lucky I only get to go 1 time a week or 2 if I'm lucky. But then again I'm only 15 so I can't drive myself, but when I can drive I will probably start fishing everyday I can.
  8. Thanks I will try this tomorrow. I have tried jigs from 1/4oz-1/2oz. I don't think location is the problem because my brother was catching fish and I caught fish when I used a worm. I was fishing the jig most of the time though.
  9. I just started jig fishing and I am just not getting any fish. I do get bites but I never actually hook the fish. Does anyone have any tips for working the jig and how to get a good hook set (I already read all the articles). I would appreciate not only tips for fishing them on the bottom but off the bottom too. If it maters I have been fishing jigs with a Shimano crucial mh 7'11" flipping and pitching stick with a Shimano curado 200e7 with 50# powerpro braid.
  10. Thanks this is the information I was looking for. What size trailer would you use for a 1/4oz jig, what size paca chunk specifically so it sinks slowly and what size so it sinks fast?
  11. Ok well I was thinking the 3in chunk or the 3-3/4in craw but what I am not sure about is do I rig the chunk the same as the craw? Only reason I am considering the chunk is that it is a lot cheaper.
  12. Well no one is responding but now I want to know what would be a better trailer, Netbait paca chunk or Netbait paca craw and what size for a 1/4 size jig.
  13. I'm new to jigs and I'm wondering what size trailers and what trailers to use and what jigs to use that don't cost a lot. I used my first jig today it was a 3/8 ounce terminator with a yum crawdad trailer. I enjoyed fishing it but I felt the trailer was to big so I cut it down and caught one (it wasn't a proper trailer). Once I did that I got more bites but then I thought it was sinking to fast because the fish weren't on the bottom. What size will sink slowly and not quite go to the bottom and I can swim well? Also what size craw should I use with it. One size I know I will use is 3/8 and 1/4 so what size trailers should I use for those.
  14. Yea its my first Abu Garcia except for a cheap spinning reel I have that is actually quite good.
  15. I have actually been fishing with the reel and I got it set up correctly but my curados are still much better. They cast so much smoother . I just know now to stick to shimano reels.
  16. I have heard the guides are not straight on many of those rods so if you do get it just make sure your not ordering it online.
  17. Ok, I do think it just isn't the reel for me but I think I will get it fixed and try it again. If it is the problem the poster after you described how much would you charge to fix it?
  18. Ok thanks for the help, now I am reassured it isn't my fault. How did you get it fixed? Did you return it or fix it yourself or get it fixed by a tackle shop? I think I really do like my Shimano reels better but I'm going to try and get the Stx fixed and give it another try. I will consider sending it to them.
  19. 1.You're an idiot 2.What is "ROTFL" 3.Never had any problems with my Curados. Abu sucks thus I will never be buying one again.
  20. Well he said he is new to baitcasters and claims he was basically a master and didn't get backlash on his first day using a baitcaster. I'm sorry but I don't think that is possible. Well I will probably just end up getting rid of the Stx I greatly dislike the reel and would much rather have an actual good reel like a Chronarch. With both my Curado 200e7 and my Curado 50e I have never had problems like with the Stx.
  21. well I'm not going off anything you said because I don't believe it.
  22. I have never taken this reel apart and I bought it brand new so it should be put together correctly but I did check and it is right.
  23. I have a Abu Garcia Revo STX and when I go to cast heavier lures such as 1/2 ounce and up I almost always get backlash. I don't think the problem is me because this doesn't happen with my Curados. One thing I have noticed is that when the spool tension knob is tightened all the way the spool still turns really fast. Where as on my Curados if I tighten the spool tension all the way the lure will not move at all and will take a very hard shake to get it to move. So is there something wrong with the spool tension knob of my Revo STX?
  24. My Phenix recon with my curado 50e
  25. Calico Bass are a saltwater bass. Why would anyone call it that. I live in California and have only heard them called croppie and people that don't know fish say crappie.
