Blow-Up Pontoon Boat
Ha. No Dick's in CT!? I bought 2 NEW at Dicks- $199 and $239. it goes on sale for $239 http://www.dicksspor...4417832.4417969 these are off ur local CL: offer this guy $200 b/c thats all its worth. it even comes with a paddle! http://washingtondc....3430681043.html and this guy would probably take $100. http://washingtondc....3464976957.html 4 flush mount rod holder=$25. they fit so snug you don't even need screws. i literally fished the whole summer before getting around to buying screws. http://www.ebay.com/...=item2ec00dd1e6 2" drill bit for install=$10 (they have it for $7 at homedepot). better yet borrow one from ur family or a neighbor. they are used for drilling a hole in ur door to install a dead bolt or door handle. they cut thru kayak plastic like butter. http://www.newegg.co..._-pla-_-NA-_-NA

Digital Scale
I'd like to check the weight of lures I'm making. Range 1/32-3/4oz. Does anyone use a digital scale they like/recommend? Does it display metric, decimal, fractions? I see a ton on fleabay but didn't feel like rolling the dice w/o asking first. Tks

Blow-Up Pontoon Boat
Put down the gun and step away from the balloon pontoon slowly. Just get a regular kayak. This is prime off season to buy a used kayak off craigslist. You can score one in the $200 range no problem. You are too far north to have your feet dangle in cold water every spring and fall. That alone will severely limit time on the water. And you can't paddle that pontoon near as fast as a yak. Faster paddling=covering more productive water=more hooked fish. Warmer body temp=longer outings=fish of a lifetime. Getting off the shore and into the water is amazing. You're going to be in heaven!

One Strength You Have That Many Others Don't
I'm stealth so I can put fish in the boat before they know what hit'm. I know that many members have this trait also but it seems that most anglers in the world don't. I can't go 3 outings w/o a tasmanian devil angler spooking out my spot. And I posses the same stealth when putting women in the boat.

How Much Does Color Matter With Top Water?
i focus on two things before color: 1 location 2 action. you can usually get a strike if you have both of these nailed down. if you go to a proven spot and can't get a strike then start playing with color. are you trying to mess with color to get a december frog bite or just brainstorming for next year? where are you located?

Any Other Fishers Who Prefer Canoes?
wind blows my canoe around like a sailboat. its an easy fix with an 8lb mushroom anchor. on non-wind day's i get away using my 2lb grappling style anchor. as stated kayaks are much less effected by the wind. 99% of the time i can get away with my 2lb anchor. on 15mph+ windy days i need the 8lb even in my kayak

Bad Lip Reading
i should preface by saying its not political. bad lip reading is someone dubbing their voice to say what someones lips appear to say. too funny.

St. Croix Ltbc70Mhxf/10
i'd use it for anything 1/4-1/2oz with a stout hook. that XF tip will drive a thick hook home. and i wouldn't be shy using it around cover with the MH rating. you should have no problem turning a pig's head with that power so feel free to pitch weeds/wood/pads etc. jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits would be fine. the fast tip will cast a heavy weightless soft plastic with no problem (6" weightless senko is fine). or any t-rig bullet weight plastic. i'd use 12lb flouro on it and use it for my semi-open water rod. i'd use 15lb flouro or 65lb braid on a heavy action rod for any serious frog/muck/punching fighting/wench action. any rod can be versatile in the right guys hands ie in a pinch you could throw a lipless trap on it just be VERY careful (play the fish/don't set the hook too fast or you will rip the treble hooks right out of their mouth. i have the exact same rod by powell and its an all around utility rod. i prefer to toss 6" senkos and jigs on it b/c i can cast them a mile and the rod has the power to muscle fish out of cover. i have a heavy action rod for pitching jigs to specific thick cover targets.

Megastrike Cavitron Buzzbaits?
they have a lighter gauge wire which can be touchy. i prefer booyah b/c the thick gauge wire holds up better for lunker fish and it can be bent back over and over so they run true. drilled a few holes in mine to slow it down and its literally caught 100+ fish all year.

Powell Dobyns Loomis
I would recommend a Powell or Dobyns over the GL2 b/c it has a MUCH shorter handle which I do not want to cast all day. I have 2 Powell Endurance's and LOVE them for the money

Have I Been Fishing Jigs Wrong?
i think you just have ur definition of "up/down" reversed. ur jigs are being fished correctly

Best All Around Jig?
get one that has the hook eye vertical AND recessed in the lead head. it won't pick up weeds and comes over timber easier. diff companies have diff names for it ie 'swim jig', 'timber jig' etc
-
Have I Been Fishing Jigs Wrong?
i don't think physics will allow you to fish a jig 'upside down'. kinda like asking if you've been driving your car upside down. you can rig ur soft plastic upside down but the jig will still drag right side up. tie ur jig on and drag or hop it in shallow water, bath tub etc. the hook and weed guard will be on top.

How Do You Improve Your Casting?
use a park bench or chair outside. pretend it is a dock/low hanging tree and try to flip as far as you can under and out the other side. cast outside in the dark. it will really put you in touch with how to control ur spool via thumb break=IMO the heart of every casting technique.

Ever Knew A Knot Would Fail, And Yet You Fished It?
i had a few mishaps w/ the palomar knot when i switched to fluoro leaders. yes i 'knew' i need to do some research to find a better knot b/c of the failures. i found a new knot and practiced it over and over in front of the t.v. till i got it perfect (no line burn/kinks, study which way the line wanted to 'fold' at each turn, test its break strength). ended up with the san diago jam knot which has never failed (love the way it cinches while pushing up the line vs against the knot/eye). pick a new knot and tie it 100+ times...testing its break strength will build confidence. when on the water you will 'know' if something went wrong. you will 'know' before a knot failure happens but more importantly note a 100% brain failure for going thru with it anyhow.
