Feathered Treble Hook Help
very nice. i used to kill it fly fishing a Black Marabou streamer w/ gold bead. i can't believe i don't see marabou used more in bass fishing. any thoughts? i see lots of plain white feathers (don't know the official kind).

Jig Sizes
i also fish under 12ft. i used to throw a 3/8oz religiously. then i read how much success guys on here have with 1/4oz. the slightly lighter weight gets you a ton more hits. it helps you learn key spots where fish are holding and time of season. after you've learned a few things and get tired of all the 1/4oz bites consider bumping to 3/8-1/2oz. my general rule seems to be: heavier weight=less bites but much better quality fish. lighter weight =more bites but smaller fish. (this also applies to many lures for me: drop shotting, senko's, t-rigs etc). i don't like 5" senkos anymore b/c they catch dinks all day. whereas 6" keep the dinks away and pigs on the end of the hook. i'm fishing water under 100 acres with very stable environemnts. if i was fishing large bodies of water like lake erie, 3/8oz would be my low weight b/c the environment is less stable and can handle heavier lures.

Multipurpose Setup
agreed w/ MH power and 6:3 reel ratio but i'd up the rod to 7'6" b/c i'm guessing ur shore bound? you can cover more water with less effort with that extra 6". if you fish from the deck of ur dad's 20ft nitro, get what you want

How To Effectively Fish Grass?
i'm confused. is the grass green/vibrant=fish it; or brown/decomposing=forget it. maybe there are patches of green grass amongst the dead? find the green stuff and float a t-rig weightless senko (or light weight 1/16-1/8oz) down into it. dead stick w/ very light shake/twitch when ice starts to form on ur nose. or drop shot 1/8oz weight, 2-3" grub/small plastic. experiment with 8"-2ft leader. no action! let the current do the work especially in cold water.

Help With Finder
do a forum search for those two units and you have reading material for the whole winter. i just bought the 385di on sale for $258. i think now a day's its very affordable to get a combo unit (down scanning and GPS). side imaging will bump you to the $600+ range. bought mine off moo deals. they are sold out now but have lots of other models and i'm sure they will be having more spring sales to clear out last year's stock

Dobyns Savvy Series
you can't go wrong with a dobyns, st croix (premier and avid up), powell or duckett. lots of guys here love shimano's too. you can always hold them in a local dick's etc. just search the forum for 'shimano rod' and you can read tons of feedback. and search the technique+rod ie drop shot rod. jig rod. you can literally read all winter. powell and st croix handles are pretty spot on for my taste...duckett slightly longer (i even prefer), dobyns slightly shorter (better in a kayak but not as fun from shore). i like powell's quality but i would say duckett, st croix and dobyns are more sensitive. don't worry too much b/c you will like them. just get the right power and action for the technique ur using. where are you fishing? if you fish from shore or a 18ft boat go slightly long (7-7'6"). if you fish small ponds and streams you can go shorter so ur not always getting caught in trees. what technique? what kind of water? depth? heavy cover? boat..shore?

now there's something you hear said too much about hospital beds. nothing will get you farther, happier or help you live longer than the ability to laugh at yourself. in other words you should live to a ripe old age of 150 clayton

Which One Of These Combos To Buy?
PQ. don't get sucked into KVD marketing. more (11) bearings doesn't necessarily translate into quality let alone effectiveness. they stuff extra bearings all over the reel for bragging rights (like in handle grips). doesn't help cast farther.

Windows 8
I agree their laptop and imac costs too much so i bought the Mini. i'm not happy with apple or pc at the moment. but in another 3-4yrs i'll be content with the cloud offering open storage for all files and won't look back. i'll give you a tip the guy in the apple store gave me: buy a mini for $599 and use the $700 you saved on a macbook to buy a new 42" TV to hook it up to! hilarious and beautiful idea. with the op...GREAT suggestions CFFF1.5. i'll pass that info onto many frustrated friends and family. i love technology.

Getting Skunked.
what were you doing when u got ur finesse worm bite? its VERY important. dead sticking? if so build on that b/c they want a slow, bottom contact bait. ie try a variety of soft plastics w/ light or no weight (weightless senko, 1/16oz brush hog, 1/4oz jig, 1/16oz drop shot). combine multiple retrieves in one cast makes it faster/easier to find out what they want that day. start with long dead stick. couple 8" drags. softly wiggle in one place. long pause. wiggle again (usually insert bite here). light hop few times. swim back. good luck

"chatterbait" Type Baits
I have the same stalled hook set. Seems like alot of the time they take the lure and run at you so make you pause and reel up the slack before sweeping into them. My retrieve is rod tip high and roll as slow as possible to keep it off bottom. You can actually turn the vibration 'off' if you reel slow enough (reel extra slow and use a limp wrist to absorb energy from rod)....and then give the rod tip a twitch to turn it back on. I slow roll/vibrate for 10-15ft to get followers....turn vibration off...and turn it back on again=you get crushed. Its so exciting its hard not to immediately set the hook.

Winter Farm Pond Bassin
x2 on fishing the feeder creek. i used to fish a farm pond with little cover. in that case look for spots where fresh leaves come back on ur hook. it means it is a clean, aerated area which fish will be attracted to. this pond had the fresh mulched leaves right in the deepest spot...it held the lunkers. from that point forward i always took notice when a fresh leaf comes back on my hook. or fresh green grass/weeds. the opposite being slim algae=stay away and look for better bottom composition.
