Water Temperature Probe
Has anyone run across a good water temperature probe that can be used to measure the thermocline(?) depth/temp? I'm not too impressed with what I'm finding on the web, i.e. BPS, GM, Cabelas, etc. The two or three models seen most often don't get very good reviews. Are they out of vogue and not making them any more?? I'm basically a cheep Scott, so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for something I seldom use. A meter instrument would be fine, I had one years ago that was great - so much so, someone liked it better than I did Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Eric

If You Have A Daughter That's Starting To Date...
You sound like the guy on "Last Man Standing" Tim the tool man.... no, that's not it..... Tim Allen !! They just had an episode like that At the end the boy and girl are setting on a couch with a bowel of snacks between them, looking stiff and uncomfortable while watching TV; in the background Allen is in the next room cleaning his shotgun, Allen ask the boy "are you enjoying your date" - he replies "not really" LOL Cheers, Eric

Left handed vs right handed Baitcasters
Have you ever noticed how many fishermen use the crank on the left side of their open-faced reels?? I went with LH on all my reels. By the time I transfer the power of the cast from the rod tip to the bait, my thumb is on the spool and my LH is in position to crank. I have full control of the process; I may not hit my target all the time, but that's another matter to deal with Like most here have said, it's a matter of personal choice. Cheers, Eric

Left handed vs right handed Baitcasters
I took a tip from an old timer years ago and never regreted it yet. If your right handed all your fine motor control is in your right hand and forearm, etc... For a fisherman that translates into "rod control" and "thumb control" of the spool. You need to have both when casting until the bait hits the water. If your switching hands you don't have control for the whole cast (followthrough) and if your bait gets interrupted in flight (wind gust, or hits something) you don't have "thumb control" of the spool, which translates into a more severe back lash. Whichever way you go insure you can maintain rod and spool control throught the baits flight - that is the most inportant point. Then you can decide how sharp your reflexes are, and can you afford to hand off control of the rod to the other hand while the bait is dropping in the strike zone. Think this through, go to a tackle shop and play with the reels on the same rod (LH reel on one rod, RH reel on a second rod) then go with what feels right to you. Really, it's no big deal, you can always change later. If you get a chance try a friends setup to see how it feels. Cheers, Eric

If You Have A Daughter That's Starting To Date...
You may need this ! There are only two questions missing. 1. What is your blood type? 2. Are you a bleeder? You should have your daughter Carry a copy with her, it could help her chase away unwanted guys. Cheers, Eric

Taking Notes
I have tried keeping a log while I'm out on the water, and it became quite laborious, information was inconsistent, and the book got messed up by long day kicking around a boat; and my art work was horrible. I gave it up out of frustration. Then as available technology improved I hit on another method. 1. I got myself a Digital Voice Recorder; their now inexpensive, very small and fit well within a shirt pocket. It's a lot easier to talk into than writing in a book, you can even do it while casting ! Then I transcribe my comments into a log book in the comfort of my home. Two tips are necessary here, first have a list of items you want in your log (you can print out the BR log or come up with your own) keep the list on a small card of some type and have it laminated to protect it from the weather; refer to the card as you make your recordings to insure you capture all the points, after a while you won't need the card; second, I found it helpful to use a small set of head phones while transcribing the recordings at home, I could hear better and I wasn't brothering anyone else. 2. If you can, use Google Earth to get areal views of your fishing spots. You can zoom in to get the view you want and then save it to your computer in the *.jpg format. Thin I have them printed on 4X6 photo's that I mark up with a fine tip sharpie pen. I then tape the photos into the log book. This is one way to keep a log that has worked for me, and most of the work I do from my easy chair. Cheers, Eric

Been A While...
"my greatest fear in life, is that when i am dead and gone, my wife will sell my fishing equipment for what i told her i paid for it!" You too ! LOL, LOL or "my greatest fear in life, is that before I am dead and gone, my wife will find out just how much I spend on fishing equipment !" Welcome back Nova. I'm a newbie to the forum myself; I found it's a great way to relax in the evenings. Been out on the Potomac lately? Cheers, Eric P.S. after being on the forum for a little while, either my spelling is getting better, or, my spell checker just doesn't care anymore !?

Do Soft Plastics Ever Go Bad In Storage?
I fish the Middle Potomac River and it's creeks. Curly tail worms and grubs in Motor oil was my go to bait for years; then I started reacting to the hype on other colors and styles so I got away from the Motor Oil. I was poking around the basement one day and ran across a box full of zip-lock bags containing worms, grubs, and creatures I had made over ten years ago. I could not believe they looked as good as the day I made them, I was shocked they hadn't melted or hardened beyond use. Cheers, Eric
